Yep, they clearly sat in their management meetings and thought "how can we scam our players to get the maximum short term profit out of them?" Its a good job they don't have to make any hard choices where someone loses out no matter what they do, isn't it?

They had a choice to make their bottom line suffer, or their players. They chose the latter. It's their right to, of course. Just as it's the right of said players to be pissed off about it.

What they did was rebalance Vehicles, for the long term health of the game, and to improve the interaction of Vehicles vs Infantry. (If they succeed or not is yet to be determined) To do this they had to remove certain modules that no longer fit into their plan, and some of these items had BPO equivalents. (There are 4 of these items getting removed) Because the items will NO LONGER EXIST CCP decided to refund AUR to all players who own said BPOs, for a very large sum, more than many players actually paid for said items.

Which part of this indicates they chose their "bottom line"? They made choices based on the balance of the game, and said choices included the removal of certain modules. Would you have preferred these BPO items to not be removed and just rendered useless novelty items? The proposed vehicle changes were posted over a month ago, and it was clear to all who saw it which modules would no longer exist. Players with BPOs for said items have had months to ask about what would happen to said BPOs, talk about options for what would happen to removed item BPOs.

Then CCP can simply offer equivalent BPO items upon the release of the new modules, correct? Why refund them, rather than replacing them?
If BPOs were still on the market this would be no bigger an issue than the skill respec. Nobody thinks unlimited militia items is going to seriously affect the market in any way, CCP wants rid of them because they can make more from the sale of consumable Aur items, and they've taken the opportunity provided by the vehicle changes to screw those who bought them.
