As we all know with the upcoming 1.7 build we will see many sweeping changes to both vehicles and AV. Many on both sides are making plans and determining the numbers for optimum fits, reviewing how balance will play out, and developing new strategies. At this time we are seeing new information come out day by day that may affect how this new balance will play out. One important factor is the possibility of changes to AV weapons that to date have not been announced.
During a recent discussion on balance one item was mentioned:
Quote: CPM: No, no changes to Forge Guns for 1.7
Now that we have this information I am hopeful that we can take a new look at how the interplay between AV and vehicles will balance out and see if there are perhaps any issues that need highlighted.

Why bother changing DS's if Forges are just going to three-four shot them from unrenderable range instead of two shotting? You cut nades and swarms to ribbons, but forges get a minor splash range nerf.
I guess that's great that you now have ten extra seconds to figure out where your executioner is before you die. Never mind the bad hit indication lieing to you and other such dumb bugs. I can't determine which CCP likes less. Scouts or dropships? |

They said they have fixed the rendering for vehicles...it should help.
We will see.

But dropships main role is to transport troops and softening the landing zone with the side turrets while doing that. That will work with active hardeners.
Assault dropships? Well, 300 splash on small missile turrets anyone? They can get in, activate hardeners, kill baddies, get out.

With the lowered tank HP, I can definitely see the Breach Forge gun becoming a monster.
But one thing that sort of makes it easier for Dropships to kill forge gunners, (sorta), is that small missiles now have 200m range. Same effective range of the forge gun so
If they fix rendering then I don't think it will be so bad. I mean I hate forge guns as much as the next guy when I'm flying my ADS, I'm just trying to look at it from an unbiased POV. |

Beyond the fact that Forges didn't have their most obvious issues addressed with the clear disparity in effectiveness with the Assault Variant both having higher damage after the first shot and higher rate of fire than the normal variant the fact that their damage hasnt been brought in line with the new health values means that the most vulnerable vehicle class in the game, dropships, are more or less going to be in the same position as they're in now.
Very carefully think about whether or not you guys want to spec into Dropships in 1.7, they'll be objectively worse against Forge Guns than they are now.

Can you provide more concrete evidence than one quote-tagged sentence from an unnamed CPM? Given the damage rebalance on other AV weapons, I'd be very, very surprised if FGs really are not touched. |

Not sure if you've flown a dropship or seen Judge Rhadamanthus' (probably spelled his name wrong, sorry Judge!) videos, but players are mere pixels from even 100m. To be effective, an assault dropship has to be no more than 50m from the ground. But for a forge gunner, dropships are much larger targets and are easy to hit at 300m.
