Great, the return of mountain sniping rail tanks. Seriously why should I even call in a drop ship? |

Jeez I leave for a little bit... Rail tanks don't need a mountain in the middle of the map. They just need a slight incline and boom 600m death zone for any pilot. 600m is basically the whole map.... My question still stands |

My question still stands railguns can already see dropships 600m (ish) away (kinda like 400 but still) theres a thing called elevation and cover, LOS the railtank, you can do taht now since there isnt a giant mountain in the middle of the map with LOS to everywhere i started out as a dropship gunner, and while its not the same as being a pilot in my own right i have a lot of insight into flying. before you COULDNT LOS a railtanker. now maps have so many elevation levels that you can literally fly below their turret range, behind the buildings they cant elevate themselves to look overtop of, behind the hills they no longer have the torque to get on top of. think 3 dimentionally, this isnt a flat world As a drop ship pilot I can't think 2 dimentionally, that's not an option. A rail tank only needs a slight edge on a hill or even a rock to tilt his turret to the sky. Not even I can go 600m high. Could you possibly link the terrain/pictures/map of these maps? I'd like to know where your drawing these conclusions from. If they indeed no longer have mountains in the redline I would be satisfied with your conclusion. The problem with redline rail tanks has always been this, the only true safe spot from a railtank is directly above it. And I cannot get directly above a railtank when its in the redline. So giving it range over the whole map sounds like its creating more of the same problem as a railtanker can typically raise his turret high enough that a terrain advantage is not needed. This is why I posted my original question. |

Ghosts Chance wrote: well any building more then 15m high will do it.
not to mention all the new maps have 50m vallys in the where you can fly below the tank.
im curious how you CANT find a way to avoid LOS, its impossable not to if only by accident.
Believe me as a dedicated drop ship pilot since beta I have fought many redline railtanks, I know how to avoid line of sight. Well I know how to avoid line of sight when I know there is a threat and where its coming from. Since you started a gunner and not a pilot let me explain, when I take a hit from a large railgun I can see which side of the craft it hit me on, however the hit indicator tells me the exact opposite. This is really confusing and when you can only take two shots before being blown out of the sky knowing which way to turn and run is a 1.9mil isk choice. Now let's say I'm flying a decently low altitude, maybe 20m off the ground coming out of my redline flying for the right side of the map. I can't see the enemy redline because thats not how the drop ship camera works. So a redline railtank sets up on level ground in the enemy redline and sees me floating along, he doesn't need a height advantage, at his range he can easily hit me as I'm coming out of my redline and hits me allllll the way across the map.....I have no idea if its a tank or not but 3/4s of my health is gone. You're the rail tanker, tell me how long do I have to react with faulty information before you get another shot off? The shot that destroys my 1.9mil isk drop ship....see why I'm concerned... |

About your edit, I fly and have flown with many of the notable drop ship pilots. ever heard of condor squadron? I was lucky enough to be involved with some of their work, go to YouTube and search condor squadron strikes again. I was in that one, please don't lecture me about how to fly a drop ship as you don't fly them. All I'm saying is this will hurt more than it will help, as most railtankers hide in the red with no risk and can two shot assault drop ships out of the air. Oh and my best solo game in my python was 28/0 would you like to know my dedicated gunners high score? |

nothings really going to change in railgun vs dropship fights with 1.7, they are just going to happen more oftin then your used to.
ive flown as gunner against railtanks, even the redline centric ones. you win some you lose some, but one of us always explodes from the ordeal, all dependant on skill of the pilot/crew vs skill of the railgun.
Its a long shot to say that someone who sits deep in the red with a massive 2 shot cannon has any skill. Sitting there, without a care in the world, no risk or reds to be seen for miles. Even orbitals cannot destroy your toy. Maybe if railtankers agreed to an inability to shoot from the redline I would agree that they should get full map coverage with their gun. Cause you know then it would actually be fair. This is a bad idea, railtanks haven't needed more range since 1.0. Redline railtankers are useless except for destroying vehicles like drop ships which they do all to well from an untouchable position. |

Haha now this I'd like to see! What's your pilots name? I'd very much like to fly with him, or against him either way. My view on this hasn't changed, nor will it. Railtanks don't need more range. They never have, like you said the ones that come out are to be feared, ts is true they know what they are doing. I'm thinking more of how this will be abused, not how this will benefit good tankers who don't need that much range anyway

And yes typically that's what you want to do in a dogfight. I once went up against three ads by myself, made one crash killed other and the last tried to suicide me, we both lived but was sketchy. Well looks like I derailed your thread sorry about that, I still don't think railtanks need more range, they have plenty as it is. I think I'm gonna go start a drop ship thread now |
