...you only use adv or std weapons, suits, and equipment to take over in a match?
Cause earlier today I played 10 matches and won every one of them by pushing the enemy back to one objective. Every match I played got me about 3k wp, around 25ish kills, and I felt like I was barely even trying. Not to mention I wasn't even using my proto-gear, sometimes only pulling out cheap std fits that were disposable.
There was even a match where we went 7 on 2, and I was nice enough to send the guy 1 mil because he didn't give up.
I mean, I felt bad for some of the players I was going against because in mere minutes we had complete control of the battlefield and they struggled just to get back another objective.
The only time I pulled out my prototype fittings was when I was getting shot at by prototype weapons, and heck...even my own prototype suits don't use proto weapons/equipment. Some of these matches I pulled out my HMG, burst rifle, shotgun, mass driver instead of the usual Assault Scrambler and did just as well.
I'm sure that I wasn't playing against a bunch of noobs as most players were from respectable corps earning good amounts of wp themselves...but idk, I just don't want to feel like I'm becoming one of those players everyone hates. ___________________________________
So would you consider me a stomper? If so, what kinds of things should I be doing instead so that I'm not "making this game worse for everyone"?
A few things that I already do: I don't use annoying/cheap weapons (AR, grenades, snipers, etc) I don't use the best/cheapest suits (I run minmatar logi and basic heavy frame) None of my fittings have prototype weapons

Would you say that pub stomping and proto stomping are the same thing then?
I always thought they were different...as pub stomping was using your best gear in pub matches, whereas proto stomping is where everyone is using proto on purpose so that you have a large advantage in any type of contract (Pub/FW/PC).

If you're fielding full squads against a team of randoms and utterly destroying (as it sounds you were) then yes you are stomping. Pubstomping to be precise, whether that was the intention or not.
Protostomping on the other hand is, like you say, using Proto non-stop in an effort to crush and pad KDR. |

I think pub/proto-stomping in Dust is going to be the equivalent of "blobbing" in Eve. People will shout it whenever they lose a fight, regardless of any original meaning it may have had.

I don't understand all this stuff about stomping, pubstomping, protostomping, non-stomping, squad-stomping, try-to-do-the-same-in-militia-gear and what's stomping and what's not.
This is the first game I play where I've found such meaningless and ridiculous definitions.
I remember when I first started playing DUST, back in Uprising 1.0, I realized that there's a tier system and I immediately started to design my goals to get better gear. I've been killed so many times by proto weapons, I always HTFU'ed and finally I have my own proto gear and I enjoy using it when I feel like giving it a go.
It's a videogame, right?

It's a videogame, right? The only legitimate argument I've seen in this area is the "ruins the new player experience" one. I do believe new players deserve more protection than they get currently from proto-pub-stomping / being-killed-by-better-players-in-better-gear.
Outside the new player experience though, I'm also in the "HTFU" camp. And that is coming from a regular "stompee".

Agreed, it is not entirely realistic to ask people to hold back as if "try not to shoot as well as you could" or "don't create as good fittings as you could" or "don't play with your friends in same squad".
That being said, I'm slowly leaning towards the need for 'less hard core public games' to soften the difference between academy and hardest deathmatches which sometimes the ambushes are. How to do it, there's no easy solution no matter whether achieving it through solo joiners only or suit/module tier limitations (a topic of it's own).
But even if we find a way to separate relative newcomers from vets, do we have enough playerbase to split matchmaking even more???
Feeling the scanner is too simple and off balance?

After being on the receiving end of one of those matches you had today. It was a stomping only because the team being stomped headed for the nearest meat grinder and jumped in. I'm not even sure that there were any squads with more than 1 person in them.

Proto stomping: running proto gear 24/7 regardless of how many times you die
Pub stomping: stacking a team filled with squads that run proto gear 24/7

Pubstomping- General Term used to describe Immediately redlining a foe without a struggle.
Protostomping-Immediately Relining a foe while using a ridiculous amount of proto (i.e. dies 5 times a match in all proto)
I find matches with at least a bit of a struggle to be OK, but immediate redlining with no possibility for a comeback ticks me off. Especially when its cause it was who can spam more proto.

Notice all the gradual declining in the statistics over the past 6 months ?
How's the HTFU attitude working out for DUST ?
Matchmaking is broken because DUST can't hold on to enough players or indeed increase the player base to make it work, the stomping because of the poor matchmaking is affecting the player base detrimentally and means Matchmaking is broken because DUST can't hold on to enough players or indeed increase the player base to make it work, the stomping because of the poor matchmaking is affecting the player base detrimentally and means Matchmaking is broken because DUST can't hold on to enough players or indeed increase the player base to make it work, the stomping because of the poor matchmaking is affecting the player base detrimentally and means Matchmaking is broken because DUST can't hold on to enough players or indeed increase the player base to make it work, the stomping because of the poor matchmaking is affecting the player base detrimentally and means ........ repeat on an infinite cycle

Science for Death is proud of our "No Proto" in pub matches mantra. We don't need it, and it's way more fun to kill proto with STD/ADV gear.
Sure we have a couple of members that always run proto, but we never have full proto squads.

Eveyrone used their Proto-gear against me when they got it back at the start of the game, all the beta vets rushed to get into their proto-suit while i was stuck in standard & advanced for a few months.
But now that i use it against others, its called proto-stomping.
Besides, ive run enough games in standard to see that the diffrence is only minor, i mean i run games in the high 40 kills in standard gear and do the same in proto. It just allows me better odds when i encounter full teams in proto-gear.
Besides whats the point of ISK in your wallet ? If you got it, use it....i mean my 670m ISK isnt gonna deplete itself.

I call it protostomping no matter what if it is a squad of experienced players with the ability to use proto (even if they don't) joining a match that will most likely include new, less skilled players that are not (or don't want to group) and are trying to have casual fun. This proto squad also most likely thinks highly of themselves for using such unskilled, easy kill methods due to their need to win, win, win at something in their life.
Protostomping is not soloing in your best stuff and are not part of the protostomper squad. Usually (read always) if you are on the protostomper team you can sit at the redline spinning in circles and your team will win regardless of your actions.
Protostomping is when it is clear by the roster who will win. So, either way you can rubber band your way to some kind of success.
See, this is the problem with this game and why that even if CCP continues farting out updates it will remain a laughable, drunk's lobby shooter.
If the pen is mightier than the sword, in a duel I'll let you have the pen!
