It's safe to say I've probably never died so much... And yet I've never had so much fun!!
Why, plasma cannon? Why do you do this to me? You're slow, weak, and get me the smallest amount of kills I've ever had (even with Nova Knives), but those kills were all so beautiful!!
In seriousness however. The plasma cannon is a fantastic weapon, incredibly fun, but incredibly impractical. It has no role on the battlefield aside from the satisfaction of knowing you controlled all the variables to grant that one glorious direct hit. It has a huge CPU cost, and the prices keeps rising with the tiers too. All for about +10 damage to splash per level?
Plasma cannoneer veterans, I've seen you on the forums and elsewhere. You bravely and proudly say that the Plasma Cannon is not underpowered, and in skilled hands, can be an effective weapon (Ghazbaran, I'm looking at you). I've seen hints at it, with my ability to deal with infantry, installations, and vehicles to degree, being the Jack of All Trades weapon (hence why I am drawn to it?). But I cannot see how it is as good as you claim it to be. Direct hits are rare in their appearance, taking not only skill but a near equally proportional amount of luck to land one. Splash damage is frankly quite useless without damage modifiers.
The problem is, I've fallen in love with this gun. It's brought back a sense of enjoyment I haven't had in DUST in a long time. But it also takes away the tactical feel. Is there something I'm doing wrong?

It would certainly stop everyone from looking at me funny as they see me running around with a potato shooter over my back

Wait until you join Cannon Fever and run with 5 other Cannon users and run up against a tank. It's the most glorious thing ever to see 6 Cannon shots go streaking across the map.

I'll remember that. I've managed to kill a few LAV's and mortally wounded a dropship, but not tank kills yet. Canon Fever, eh? I'll most certainly remember that...

How about we get a 16v16 corp battle.
Line up in your heavy suits, and get your Plasma cannon ready. Both teams fire a volley, and then you charge.
This is how you fight like a man. This is also how all disputes between corps should be settled.

I do love the Plasma Cannon. OHKing protobears, 120m kills on snipers, instapopping someone as they come around a corner, all my favourite pastimes.

The channel is Cannon Fever with double n in the middle, just in case if you don't find it. You might want to try the PLC in confined spaces, makes the dodging that much harder. They just see the flash and it's game over. Also scanner+PLC and prefiring at corners when people are about to pop their heads out is priceless. Corners in general are you best friends. |

Yeah, I've noticed the PLC works better in the Gallente Research Facility. Fitting, huh. Have yet to pair it with a scanner. I normally keep a nanohive on because I tend to use up my shots pretty quickly (it's not my fault no one hacked those blaster installations), but that's definitely something I'll keep in mind next time!
And yeah, was wondering about that. Cannon, got it.
