What role do you play?
Now what would you say are the requirements someone would have to meet before being one of said role?
If they met said requirements would you consider them part of said role?
Along with that, what would you say needs to happen before someone can have an accurate opinion on said role?

Being able to sport at least ADV gear for said role, and play it often enough to not make rookie mistakes, this makes me take opinions/feedback seriously for said role. The above opinion is subject to change without warning according to personal whims.

Sure, there are noobs and pros at every role, one has to start somewhere

About 75% usage and skilling into said role, progression is a large part before you can become an expert.

Hugged a supply depot and kept swapping fits as needed, help held off a massive attempt on C first the LAVs swarmed us and we had to start blowing them up, the foot infantry remaining had to be mopped up and went assault, then the took the ridge with snipers overlooking the socket and took out the sniper and laser fits to burn them down then swapped back to my shock fit and rushed the cliff and took out their drop uplinks and non snipers up there.

My role?
As often as I can. Assault dropship/gunship pilot. Missile tanker.
When I can't. Battlefield control (uplinks, hives, remote explosives and hacking installations/objectives) Millita Swarms (just until I get enough SP for the Plasma cannon) + militia rail gun soma for AV Transport dropship (Look for team in the open and try to go to where they're heading if they get in) Dropship, temporary mobile cover/blockade in narrow walkways depending on situation. I Logi only if my team stays together. (sniffles) need more SP before I can upgrade my survivability so I play scout like.
Requirements? If you can do it, you can do it, if not, then you can't. How well you can do something is entirely dependent on your success/fail ratio and that's not tracked. You'll be out matched sometimes and you'll be owned sometimes. I'm not a slayer but I try to make up for it as best I can.
On opinions. It really doesn't matter. Everyone has their own opinions. My basic criteria for forming an opinion is that you have to at least acknowledge the other side of the equation because you are affecting someone else and the fallout for ruining there experience or outright eliminating there playstyle will make a negative impression.
Also you, void and speaker should just give it a rest for a bit. There are strengths and weaknesses to every role. Tanks are extremely effective against infantry and Forges/Swarms are absofreakingloutely effective at raping tanks from anywhere with a clear line of sight. Both will be adjusted and it doesn't help bickering all over the forums about it. It's not our call to make. You'll do your thing, they'll do there thing and no matter what you say it won't change. Don't stress to much over it.

Role: Assault
Requirements: Battlefield awareness. The exclusion of self. Knowing the different type of offenses, from concentrated fire to covering fire. Your life might be sacrificial but let it be for a good noble cause instead of silly one. Relay info to your team. Motivate. Comms is not the counselor's office. You are not to create unrest among teammates. Maintain focus even under the face of defeat. Use comms to relay vital intel. You are the frontrunner. Without infantry, a push cannot be made. Adapt to battlefield changes. Use your intelligence to avoid chokepoints and understand how to use flanking to your advantage. |

What role do you play?
Primarily an HMG Fatty
Now what would you say are the requirements someone would have to meet before being one of said role?
Must be extremely masochistic with a puritan hatred for currency. Must love when Suits with lower HP and "lower" dps weapons strafe inside your HMG reticule and take no damage.
Must have invested at least 10 million SP into said role thinking HMG would be included in the next "bug fix" patch.
Must have lost 10s of millions of ISK in 100s of painfully frustrating yet mysteriously pleasurable battles against proto CalLogis with Duvolles and Proto Gallente Scouts with Mass Drivers in 1.2 - 1.3 releases.
If they met said requirements would you consider them part of said role?
No, because they would have gotten fed up and began using an AR with the Heavy suit.
Along with that, what would you say needs to happen before someone can have an accurate opinion on said role?
Player must have been a Heavy since at least Chromosome.

I am confused by the OP. What do you mean by 'role' - diff ppl mean diff things when they say it. I think a better question would have been what suit and weapon you play. Because those terms are real. Now compare this with roles. For example, you would often hear a 'logi role' which is misleading because it assumes that there is a play style that is attached to a suit which is not the case. Consider this: logi is a suit that can accomodates almost any play style; while, for example, scout fails just about any attempt of ppl using it. By extension there are no such things as 'logi role' and 'scout role'. |

Funny, I play scout totally different. No RE, no uplink, no AS, no damps, no SG, AR or MD, no NK (but I used to, lol) or flaylocks, no reps.
I run PLC, smg, extenders, needle, armor plates, biotics, range amplifiers.

For example, my role is 'Slayer Logi'
Or; My suit and weapons is Logistics and Duvolle Assault Rifles
By using role instead of suits and weapons people are able to (and will most likely want to) go into detail about their actions on the battlefield; as opposed to giving me a stale, dull, and straightforward statistic.

I'm like IWS (omni soldier) except a tad more specialised, in specific being Gallente items. There are exceptions, for example skilling into prototype minmatar drop suits and minmatar equipment (dat rep tool). I would be surprised if there were more like me, but I guess they would be mostly closed beta players. I've seen a few, but none with sub-specialisations.
But yeah, I've seen plenty of omnisoldiers
