Solution: skill into scout. ;) As a scout, you still need to skill into Profile Dampening IV before you'll go underneath most (not all!) of the scans. And they'll still know someone's there. Considering the loss of eHP, slots and the SP investment, it's really not worth it.
I have started to run scout and say it is definitely worth it. I have made some observations running scout with long range passive scanning and an advanced scanner equipped.
1. If I get the message scan prevented, I can see on my tachnet that the red dot running the active scanners starts to twirl, fun to know that he is paranoid knowing a sneaky scout is close by but not where I am hiding. Working as intended and SP spend on dampening and scout is worth it.
2. When I scan the red dots and they are informed of my scanning's I see them very often stop chasing me and begin to cluster together afraid that a competent squad is close by with intel of their locations. Gives me time to escape in my skinny scout suit running in a direction where I see no red dots on the tachnet.
The above have been observed by either visual sight or by having them visible on tachnet from passive scans before and after active scanner was activated.
I do not know why you continuously say dampening is not worth it, the scanning messages are very useful when in a scout suit. I also have a logi with a scanner. I hate the you have been scanned messages when in my slow logi suit as I can not do anything about it and know a scout will soon jump on my back and shoot me in the head with a shotgun.
Now I am the scout doing the hunting.
Getting under the advanced scanner is enough for most pub matches, I know I need to stay far away if I get scanned by a proto scanner. That is most+ likely used by a proto squad, no match for my scout. |

-First of all, make it a directional scan like it's meant to be. No more of this "spin to win." This, I think, is the most crucial, but I'll continue.
-Change the chevron results to be static icons that "refresh" over the enemy's head every second/half-second or so. No more of this wall hax stuff.
-Buff countermeasures. I shouldn't have to sacrifice ALL of my tank and hundreds of SP just to counter one advanced scanner. I think the first two changes will be fine, but perhaps rebalancing could be looked at too.
But this is a good thing, do not buff countermeasures, now there is actually several modules to choose from on the low slots besides stacking armor and repair. Now you have to choose between tank or avoiding being scanned. As a newly born scout I very much prefer you keep your armor stacked as I do not have to add precision modules to my suit to scan you :)
I do agree with the spin to win issue, this need to be addressed. Change so that if you keep it still while scanning the chevrons are dynamic. Spin and the chevrons will just blink once and disappear again. Keeping the scanner steady will give it time to lock on the signatures of each dropsuit or it will only briefly show the location. |
