There have been players in this game that have always just blown your mind when you play against them, successfully pulling off crazy stunts, recklessly jumping into crowds and mowing them all down, etc. There is always that first face to face encounter with them that just sticks in your mind and solidifies tham in your memory as a player who you'll never forget. I have many such tales having been here for well over a year now, and here is such a tale, dredged up from the long passed days of pre-Codex, that I am sharing with you as I wait for my lunch to finish cooking. This is the tale of the Dust sniper whom I have more respect for than any other sniper in this game.
In the days when Line Harvest was the only map that was in the rotation, back when squads were only four man groups and repair tools had just been WP nerfed, I was in a corp called Up 4 Anything (U4A). I was running in a squad with Free Healing, rebel scum22 and mahhah and we were up against 2 squads of Imperfects with a hodge podge of random blues on our side.
We knew things weren't going to go well from the start, so we decided the best course of action would be to go 2&2 in LAV's and toss uplinks around to try and lure our bluedots out of the redline.
At the time, I had heard his name plenty of times before. He was well known as a sniper without equal in Dust. I had my doubts about it, though he had tagged me several times from what I had assumed was a hilltop before. While making a run back into the redline to let our Saga's shields take a break from the constant AV attempts, I saw him running with his squad out in the open. He was crossing the road with Mr. Zitro and Blondie Rhodes (think that's how he spelled it...) and I HAD to run ONE of them over. They were some of the biggest players in Dust, and in those days if you had the opportunity to kill one of those guys, you did everything you could to do so.
So I floored it. Mr. Zitro had made it from C to D and Blondie was almost clear of the road, but Sleepy Zan was just standing in the middle of the road staring me down, as if DARING me to try to run him over! Well alright then! As I passed under the cargo nest in the center of the field, he suddenly dropped to one knee in the middle of the street and lined up his sniper rifle. I though to myself "Is he seriously gonna try to snipe me out of my LAV like this?"
With my LAV only 2 meters away, going full speed and aimed directly at him at him, Sleepy Zan head shotted me out of my LAV and lept out of the way of my still moving vehicle, then killed my passenger moments later.
And that my friends is how you earn someone's respect. First time face-to-face meetings leave a lasting impression, and that is why Sleepy Zan will forever be the sniper I respect most in Dust.
Join me next time when I recall the tale of the greatest assault player in Dust.
Time to EAT!

Strangely enough, I managed a shot just like this when I was still a wee little newberry and was dedicated to sniping. I felt like a movie action star as the LAV slid right past me without it's driver, crashed, and exploded. I think that's when I decided Dust was a game worth investing my time in.

I got ambushed by 5 men jumping out of a dropship and killed them all.
KEQ scrubs they may have been but I was still impressed with myself after that.

I met Christ at Katscon, the first year it relocated to National Harbor. It was love at first sight on a snowy Valentine's day weekend... Oh! You meant in game? Uh... never mind...
I tried to put a level into Amarr Commando once, but got a server notification saying "Why?"

It's called lag. Nobody accepts him as a friend, because it's all the player and lag never has anything at all ever to do with getting a kill.

Ummmm. Not entirely true. Some of my best moments was sniping Sleepy in the red zone. Most of that time he was soloing though. We used to trade hellos from one end of the map to the other end of the map.

She was on fire. just sniping away in all her glory. I stood and by and watch her take 2 more of my teammates down. Then I messaged her "turn around"
After she messaged "lol you scared the **** out of me with that. nice"
I then messaged her "I hope not. I don't think these suits are machine washible. Hey if you ever need some tips or questions about this game let me know. We can skype or psn video chat. If your cool with that, that is.."
We psn video chat that night.

Alldin Kan. I was new to the game and watched in awe as he tore through my entire team with a GEK and maybe an assault c/1. He got me 4-5 times, I could barely get a shot on him. He went 30/1, I got him with a lucky grenade.

that's a fun shot to make, though honestly it's harder to hit a moving lav from the side then head on, from the back is the hardest.
when you are charging a sniper with an lav you are little better then a stationary target. |
