Alright Ladies and Gentlemen, stay tuned for tonights development when Xer Cloud Consortium annouces the name of our new partnership filter corp. This corp is designed as a place for members we flag as not meeting a positive growth ratio of production verses theft. Warnings are placed by general community observances of the users actions on the corp wallet. Refresh spam of the wallet is one factor that may place a member in limbo.

This means you afg alt Looks like this appeases a lot of peoples' current problems with membership in the group of constant theft after matches. It slowly retunes the dynamics of group behavior here for the better.

can't play dust wrote:@dustwaffe, OK you don't scam people at work. Why do you then scam them online when you are back at home? Doesn't your moral standards apply to people you meet online outside of your work? What's the difference between people at work and people online in game?
Disclaimer: i shoot people in dust, i never insisted i am good person nor perfect. But i try to be... So please bear with me.
I scam people (in EVE) because (i) I can't be bothered to grind PVE stuff to make ISK, (ii) there are gullible people out there with more money than common sense, and (iii) last but not least, it's a valid way to make ISK endorsed by CCP. It's a means to an end, rather than my sole objective when playing the game. There is a very clear distinction between scamming someone online, and scamming them in a video game where that sort of behaviour is allowed, makes for great stories and generally fits in with the whole role-play thing.
And yes, I would view scamming a person online (not over a video game but over RL monies) to be morally reprehensible. However, there is no need to bring RL moral standards into a video game, especially when you have no delusions that is a GAME, therefore you play it to have fun and be entertained.
It really is THAT simple. Either you play a game for fun, and know that it's just pixels, or you take everything personally and can't distinct between real life and make believe money.
OK, a simple analogy. If you play GTA, do you feel bad when you stick people up to take money off them, run over hookers on the sidewalk, gun your targets down etc? I'm guessing you don't, since it's a video game and you know that you wouldn't do anything of the sort in RL. If this is not the case, seek help asap. |

can't play dust wrote:Don't dissmis such systems out of hand yet. Even if you see ISK constantly leaking out of wallet this is actually good. Let me explain. By analyzing who contributes most to the corp wallet and takes least (better yet none) you can find out who is the needle in a New Eden haystack. Everybody else is just a haystack. Finding that needles is a best thing that might happen to you in this s**t hole... Just think about it for a moment Good luck EDIT: we need better tools to filter/analyze corp wallet transaction logs. It's utter mess now... I think this new initiative to split the corps is going to be more to that original impression you had about the 'corp' that Jadu originally promoted.

I don't want to entertain myself with it. Thous i can't buy your analogy. I once played Carmageddon 2. But i stopped doing this moment after i'd almost run over a pedestrian on a crosswalk I was much younger and stupid then. But that moment was very sobering to me...
Scamming people in EVE over ISK is really about robbing them of they real cash they have spent to buy subscription time. So you don't steal make believe money. You steal their time cos you "can't be bothered to grind PVE stuff to make ISK". You want to use somebody's else subscription time (paid with out-of-game currency) to pay for your subscription with PLEX.
The money your profession is all about is as imaginary as New Eden ISK. It's just bits in a computer. Banks create it out of thin air and moon-high heaps of derivative gambling bets right about to pop (i bet you know it already). The difference with in-game-money is the out-of-game money can directly affect energy input to your out-of-game-body and your surrounding. And it's the only reason why you say they are real. Because you are REALLY afraid of your body disintegration because of no energy input and of what may come next after it. PLEASE DON'T
If you wonder why i participate in New Eden interaction, the answer is simple. Moments of interactions like this and discussing really important topics. Like this. Thank you dustwaffe
Look i don't want to bother you further with my preaching. And don't want to convert you. I just wanted to explain my pov (it's not yours it's mine and i don't want to force it over you). Feel totally free to discard all what i write as total BS. I respect your right to do so.

About the scamming ISK in EVE thing. Well, as you say, I want to use somebody's subscription time to pay for my time in EVE, and I say, what's so wrong about that? Better to have peasants work for you than be a peasant yourself, IMO.
Also, not sure what this means...

PLEASE DON'T As a communication scholar, I almost thought you were getting at something along the lines of Morris Berman and The Basic Fault. He discusses how people experience an inner schism through the confiscation of the self from a somatic, bodily experience to one of 'being and other for others to behold." People build up a love for the image of themselves that takes meaning and affirmation from objects or persons outside of their body vessel, and not from within the person themselves. A person is reminded of their body experience through touch and haptic feedback (maybe why we love to touch the screens of our phones as we browse twitter).
Quite fascinating stuff if you want to get into internet sociology studies.

Our bodies need energy to sustain our awareness. This energy is in the form of food and shelter. Those need energy input to create too. Despite ALL available to us energy (sunshine incoming and accumulated over millenia in the form of fossil/fission fuels) is actually free (in terms of currency) methods of extracting it and delivering it has become entangled with scarcity of currency. This scarcity of currency regulates how much energy we are able to deliver for our awareness to be still with us. Since most of us are afraid of the unknown fate of our awareness after our body dies due to lack of energy we are simultaneusly afraid of having little money. Because of being tricked into believing that money is energy we believe that money is real. It is not and it is not energy.
Simple (yet i admit extreme) example: Imagine you have fat bank account and "platinium" cards in your wallet, you are nicely dressed and that's it. Now imagine you'v been driving through the dessert dirt road and your car has just run out of gas. There is nobody around. Your mobile is dead and you have no food nor nothing to drink with you. What's good all that money for now? If you don't find any FREE energy around in the form of food and water quickly your body will stop function. You are most probably begining to be engulfed in fear. Fear of death of your body. Fear of the death of your awareness. Stop. Our awareness can function without our bodies. It's not BS. It's a scientific fact completely untied from religious beliefs: http://www.wired.com/wiredscience/2013/04/consciousness-after-death/
BTW, materialism and science are belief systems too. Complete with their dogmas, believers and priesthood It's all a matter of choice of what to believe in...
