I know how many times its been suggested, and I know its supposedly coming eventually. I also know how things get pushed back, so.... I'm suggesting vehicle locks again.
Today I see a blueberry against 3 reds, so I swing my LAV near by for cover, then hop out to help him mow down the reds. Next thing I know I hear my LAVs engine rev up and by the time my fat ass turns around he's 100 meters away in my brand new 206,000 ISK LAV. I can only stand firing at it in vein as I am mowed down in my back.
The worst part is that it happens frequently. It used to be once or twice a week. Then it became daily, now multiple times per day. Some people don't know, and some enjoy it. Either way, the best I can do is to send them a hate mail after, although this probably makes most of them lol.
My suggestion: I should be the only one holding the keys to my lav, and that should be automatic. If I get out of the vehicle, then the keys come with me. I should have to give explicit permission for otherwise. This should be constant for the entire match, unless it gets hacked. If it's hacked, all bets are off, no more owner, anybody can drive it. The owner should lose it from his inventory. And the only way for him to get it back, is to recall it. If a blueberry wants to sit in my passenger or gunner seat, that should be allowed. I think squads should somehow get priority and kick a blueberry off.
And a message to all blueberries: I realize that 90% of you are good people and wouldn't intentionally steal my stuff. But it's that 10% that do that make me seem like an a*s. For that I'm sorry. I won't pick you up if I can help it, even if you are stranded and about to die. I've left many clones that could have been saved. If you manage to get into my vehicle and you remain for too long, then there is a risk that I will team kill you. I may park in harms way, or crash into another LAV, which always seems to kill my passengers. I'm sorry for this as well, but it's that 10% of you that are unpredictable that cause me to be this way. I promise you I'm actually a nice guy, and if you ask on com for a lift or ride along, I'm happy to oblige. So far, nobody on com has stolen an LAV from me.
If CCP will give me ownership of my vehicle, I promise to be more of a team player than a team hater. Anybody can have a ride. I hope CCP will realize that this is important and will work on implementing it.
There is already ownership in place for 5 seconds after the vehicle is called in, but only if you are in a squad, I believe. This should be extended indefinitely until it is hacked. And it shouldn't matter if you are in a squad or solo.
It would be nice to set permissions on a vehicle to be either: owner, squad, or team. so that we can choose the people that are allowed to drive it. passengers should be open, but squad should get priority. |

It's especially bad for Logi Dropships. Want to jump out and put down a link or hive to provide additional support for your team? Hah, no! A blueberry just switched to the pilot seat, tried to take off but flipped and destroyed your 400k+ isk vehicle. |

Here's my own annoying bluedot story:
Line Harvest, Domination. The enemy had taken the objective, so I call in my Limbus to do a few drive by scans and maybe take out a few reds. A bluedot hops on the turret, so I think 'maybe he can help'. On the way we come across a lone red. I try to run him over, but end up just clipping him. So I decide (against my better judgment) to trust my gunner to stay put while I hop out to finish the job. As soon as I get out he takes the driver's seat. But he waits for me, so I figure I might as well make the best of this turd sandwich and take the turret. He drives right into the middle of the enemies at Alpha and starts ramming into things trying (and failing) to run them over. They recover quickly and start spamming us with every kind of grenade available. After the match I sent him a message: You owe me a Limbus. He has yet to respond.

I completely support this for game modes that do not have friendly fire enabled.
For any mode that DOES have friendly fire turned on, friendlies should be able to hack your tank in the same way an enemy can.
Also, some game preferences that allowed you to pre-emptively allow squad members and/or corp-mates would be good too.

Much as it pains me to say it, we need to wait for the 1.7 patch. Many things are changing, one of which is being able to not mount a turret in a HAV. One, well me actually, would think that the Squad lock would be functional then as well.
Okay, replace think with wish.
The good news is that if the 1.7 patch is as bad as it reads then this will no longer bother me as I will be out of tanks. |

Lost 4-5 dropships the other day while playing domination solo. return to the supply depot to get more proto hives and turn around to see my DS upside down 200m up in the sky. Why do we not have this by now? If we can have the squad finder, why can't we have the vehicle lock?

because people like me would abuse it.
I just want to have ownership of the vehicle that I call in. It's stupid that I should be forced to share it with the entire unpredictable blueberry team.
CCP, give us ownership of our vehicles. this should have been implemented a year ago. I've tried to be patient. |

Hey, this is just about consistency: If friendlies can shoot you like enemies can, then they should be able to hack you like enemies can. The key thing here is that you can do something about it. With FF off, you are powerless to retaliate. If FF on, you can just shoot the guy that's trying to hack your tank.
Besides, if your own PC corp mates are stealing your tanks from you, then you're in the wrong corp.
As for the upcoming FW changes, it would just be a matter of friendly hacks causing some sort of standing loss.

I get what you're saying, and it makes sense. But like you pointed out, I think it's a pretty rare situation where it would matter. I would have probably made my vehicle "open to team" if it was my own corp. I'm not sure what FW changes you're referring to though.
I'd rather keep it simple for now and just get the locks out there. I'm not sure why it's been delayed so long but it makes me wonder if they have some complex plan for them. |

EVE, to me, is all about the social contracts that we form with our friends. More often than not, what keeps me coming back is the people I feel a sense of kinship with, rather than the actual game itself.
I believe an important part of that kinship is how overwhelmingly vulnerable we all are out in nullsec: Others in my 1,000+ player alliance could choose to attack me and blow up my very expensive ships any time I'm undocked. My alliance leaders could kick me out and lock the station from further access, effectively denying me access to all my own stuff... And yet, they don't. And that they still haven't after such a long time is a large part of why I'm now willing to risk billions of ISK by putting my most valuable assets in places I don't completely control.
I don't see friendly fire as an occasional griefing tool. I see it as a subtle and pervasive trust building tool that helps you build more meaningful trust-based relationships with other players.
As for how this relates to Dust: I think knowing that your buddy could have stolen your tank, but chose not to do so, is a pretty big deal.

My logi LAV losses can roughly be categorized as:
25% LAV itself blown (whether I'm on board or not) 25% I'm shot out of drivers seat 50% blue dot steals the LAV and gets it blown
Often I use my LAV as a cover and I shoot from behind it. It is SO annoying that suddenly my cover vrooms away and I'm out in the open and gunned down!
Same while tanking. Hopping out to rep by hand tool is HUGE risk - not by enemy snipers but because of blue dots...
+1000 for vehicle locks.

Maybe CCP is reluctant to implement vehicle locks because they are afraid of abandoned vehicles which confuse blues 'why I can't get in?'
[BALANCING SUGGESTION:]
Vehicle lock on as long as you're alive. If you die, vehicle opens up for all (that's a reasonable time to widen the possible fates of the vehicle)

A Corp mate dealt with Dropships thieves by putting them upside-down if there are blueberries nearby who could steal his airship.

Looks fair to me, but does it work even if BB are inside the vehicle before you leave it? Also it should not apply if you call another vehicle (yes, consider those who have infinite LAV). |
