So, IGÇÖm a bit confused. Why donGÇÖt turrets on LAVs have metal cover to protect the gunman? They stand wide open are easy pickings. Heck, why doesnGÇÖt the LAVs shield extend to protect its occupants?
The main point; some metal cover (with view port) for the gunman on LAVs to hide behind.

And seeing as force-shield, energy-shield (and other names) or the shorthand GÇÿshieldGÇÖ means different things in different sci-fi settings, you are now asked to explain why the field around a LAV does not also extend to protect the most valuable cargo; the people inside.

Reasonable, I try to do it myself, although it doesnGÇÖt happen enough to my liking when IGÇÖm the shooter ;) It would still be possible; one just had to remove the shield.
But, the focus of this suggestion is why are there no metal covering for the gunman to hide behind, that just seems like a big design flaw for any company that builds vehicle mounted turrets.

A clone soldier is important cargo? I dont think so. Theres an old military saying that goes: Horse and saddle before men. Meaning that the gear is more important than people, because lets face it. Its easier and less expensive to replace dead soldiers than their equipment, its naive to think otherwise. I never heard of that expression before, but I have no doubt that it's a real saying. And you make a fair point, but in a sense, the cloned solider-body is also "gear" (Just a lot more squishy then, say a robot body would be)
Point is, one would think that they wanted the gunman to survive long enough to kill the enemy. We have such metal covering on current turrets today.

my 2c on shields-Is it a bubble shield or a coating shield. It appears to be a coating shield therefore it wouldnt cover the occupants. I suspect that they have no roofing as to not obstruct the turrets.
And I agree on the second part as well, since this discussion, I been looking real hard on the energy-shield on LAVs It seems to appear just a few centimetres around the vehicle.

I want a medium attack vehicle that's better able to protect it's occupants. The LAV is decent right now because I love picking people off while they're in the drivers seat when they try pulling the "imma run you over in a murder taxi" crap. Same, a APC would make sense to get people into hard protected areas
