LAV: nothing happens, you can move around, it's just low on HP. HAV: nothing happens, you can move around, it's just low on HP, but you are worried because it's super expensive.
Dropship: $HIT happens, can't fly anymore, lose control over it, you are raging because it's super expensive and you know you are f***ed, even if your reppers are active.

Are you asking us for suggestions? Are you saying its not fair for DS's? Do you want penalties for the ground vehicles too?

I'm for this bit, but with a small change. Once the vehicle starts burning, it's still possible to fix it if you are fast enough with repair tools, but as long as the fire burns both the vehicle and its occupants will take damage over time.
Also, considering repair modules, tuning should be made during this situation so that it doesnGÇÖt become trivial. When your vehicle catches fire, it has lost a lot of its systems and should be hard to control and not run at full efficiently.
The two secrets to be a good sadist:
1) Don't tell them everything you planned.

While this is true, Dships should blow up in midair more than they do. Shouldn't be completely destroy the vehicle only to have it descend to the ground giving time for everyone to ball and only being destroyed upon impact.

Dropship should be treated as other vehicles if i have to explode let me explode mid air, if i'm on fire let me control my vehicle.
There's a difference: Ground vehicles you describes are alive because the still have HP left. The dropship, at the destruction state you descibed, is already dead as it has lost all it's HP.
They are handled differently for a reason: Dropships are flying coffins as they are already. They get one-two shotted so often already that it would be extremely hazardous to be a passenger if mid-air expolsions were in effect.
Don't get me wrong, I'm in favor of mid-air destruction when the damage humongously (a great word) exceeds the zero HP line. But usually it should just be as it is: Dropship losing control (systems burnt out) when it was overwhelmed.

As a dropship pilot, I'm favour of mid-air explosions: they can be very cool. But not until dropships can take more than one hit from a sharp crosswind. |

It's hard to quote any ONE post here... you're partly revisiting a subject that was already taken to the Devs, and the devs responded to the wishes of what seemed to be the majority. I think some of us here are also trying to make an important clarification, because we sense you're mixing up two different descriptions:
Around Patch 1.3 there was an effect called "Armour Burn". When your vehicle reaches a "low HP" threshold, alarms sounded, fire broke out, and unless you parked your vehicle in the next few seconds and hit the fire with every repper mod and hand repair unit you had, THE EFFECT 'BURNED' YOUR REMAINING HP TO ZERO (sort of what a "real" fire would do to your vehicle's systems and chasis). I believe there was a version of "armour burn" for the LAVs and HAVs too, I don't recall, but "armour burn" was not considered fair, especially to DS drivers who clearly need more than a few seconds just to park that vehicle. Althoug I loved the armour-burn effect It was removed a couple of months ago, and I don't think most players will want it to return.
The only effect you're experiencing now, is a "cabin fire" (I don't think anyone has coined an official term for it yet), and you don't lose your vehicle. It's a "LOW-HP" animation, not zero-hp. During a cabin fire, you can still operate the vehicle (yes DS too), but I do notice some drivers run away and never look back (maybe thinking it's still the old armour burn).
IF your DS or other vehicle loses all control from a hit, that's ZERO-HP. At ZERO-HP, your HAV/ LAV becomes a dead mass of (nano-matter? LOL) with maximum 3 casualties. When your DS rolls out and has no control, since there could be max 7 casualties, a DS driver could argue that giving them some chance to jump out gives the DS player some fair and considerate balance.
You still get to move and fight with your DROPSUIT at ZERO-HP, since zero-hp to your dropsuit means nothing to your clone body--it's a "passenger" in a (currently nano-dead? LOL) suit. Organically, you're still in the game!
So if you're proposing that ANY passenger in his vehicle have a 3-second window to jump out of his ZERO-HP vehicle (not just DS passengers), that's a cool argument. If you're proposing that a ZERO-HP vehicle be allowed to continue putting up a fight like a merc with a zero-hp dropsuit, I think you'll be nerfing one of the "damage devices" (like the cabin-fire and earlier armour-burn) that CCP definitely seems committed to keeping in the game.
Last note of interest: You can drive anywhere with your cabin on fire---I just don't think you can get the RDV to recall it---your vehicle is stuck that way till the smoke draws the enemy's interest, or a buddy with a hand-repper puts the fire out for you. |

Yes fire is just a "cool effect" now and it means you can't recall your vehicle, i think this is ok. I try to explain my problem in steps: 1) Imagine we are landed with full HP 2) Several shots bring me to 0 shield and 0 armor 3) The DS do not instantly explode like other vehicles 4) You have the time to activate your reppers and bring the DS back to half armor 5) Then the DS explodes
I'm asking to let me die mid air if they damage me too much or let me repair my DS if a can.

My understanding of the suggestion, or perhaps what I want the suggestion to be, is that you should be able to repair the dropship from the ZERO-HP loss-of-control point if you are in a position to do so, and have it restore not just armor but also control functionality. For example, recently I smashed my ship to the zero hp point landing it on a roof, but I had an armor repper and activated it. Now, I can recall the vehicle, because it has been repaired, but I still can't fly it until I recall it and get a new one. This seems asinine to me- if it's fixed, why doesn't it fly? Similarly, I've hit the zero HP point and managed to repair the ship beyond burning well before hitting the ground- but it doesn't matter, because I've lost all control. If I'm fortunate enough to be able to repair my ship before it hits the ground, I should be able to regain control. |
