Since 1.6, i get a lot more issues with heavies\HMG. Even start to run away in fear again sometimes. Which is a good sign.
So yeah, instead of buffing it, i'd rather have a decrease in damage for all other automatic weapons (smg\rifles) in regard to the TTK.

I got killed 40 meters out by one today (typical advanced one), I don't think it needs a range buff.

It needs spin up time so the burst can stand out and the range/damage increase would be justified.
I'd say range increase on the assault but longer spin up time. Damage increase just 5% it doesn't need much with it's rof |

It's a CQC weapon so more range seems pointless to me.
It just needs a better hit system. It only hits people that are in the dead centre of the reticule and that's wrong. Make it so the bullets actually spread over the dispersion area so you can hit multiple, close together, targets at once and buff the damage a bit to make it do decent damage to them all. It might be worth something after that.
Also, heavies need more weapons.

Thank you. I could love the HMG if the AR had to fight me in my range . I as heavy can not dictate my optimal fight zone. It is determined by the AR or AOE. But I have the best bad ass gun in the game. So much so I have to use the biggest slowest suit in the game to use I!
I am supposedly so bad ass in my sentinel role I have been given the honor of owning such space!
Not a shotgunner, AR player or any grenade can take me in my optimal spot cause I am a hard ass point defense player . Fear me!

I went 34/0 with my hmg in a Caldari fw match yesterday, but I had a squad and it wasn't a proto stomped match either. Proto ars is what makes the hmg garbage no hmg can stand up to it at any range. Nerf it's damage a bit and it would be fine and by nerf I mean like 5 to 10% not something ridiculous. But if you keep the ars the same decrease the hmgs dispersion or increase its range. Or just give it a shot ton of damage. CCP just needs to fix it that's all. |

Irony isnt needed. I dont think i'm mistaken when i say heavies are better now that they have more health and the HMG benefits from the better HD. At least i know i dont take down heavies the way i use to just last week.
Now, i really dont think the solution is to make HMG long range gun. They should at mid range obviously but with a lower accuracy. Which i think they do.
Last part is the most interesting. Yes grenades are way too powerfull atm. AR probably is as well. as for shotguns, they may be the one CQC weapon heavies should fear. As for the point defense part, well heavies\HMG are certainly not intended to go running around in the open or scouting an area. They do their best job when surrounded with friendlies. But hey, i could be mistaken.
Anyway, if choice was up to me, i'd start by raising TTK slightly by focusing on the weapons making it so low (rifles obv) and then see. And less power for rifles would emphasize HMGs ability vs them.

Meh, That makes me worry about "power creep"
basically it means that you just keep buffing things to compete with the best stuff in the game...instead of nerfing or removing the best stuff.
I'd rather see some actual dispersion on the AR when ADS...that way AR users HAVE to get within range of the HMG in order to have any change of killing a heavy.
You know, instead of "sniping" players like they can do now.

Makes sense to me!
Remember its a minmatar weapon, in my experince Minmatar weapons work best as either shorg range hit and run, (alla eve), but they double as good long range suppression on the ground!
The problem with the HMG wasn't the accuracy, or the damage! But the terrible range a weapon has a hard time suppressing people when its bullets do 2dmg at 50m! A little extra range will make people think twice about standing in open ground against a HMG.
Besides the Rifles still need less power, but the scrambler, rail, laser and sniper rifles will still work as a hard counter!

I kinda agree with this but it would still be nice to have a ever so small range buff though :D

Really?, i killed a ton of heavies since 1.6, almost everyone of them in cqc with std smg or ar. Their are almost the easiest kills in the game. I cant even play anymore on my heavy main char because it is so painfull to use. (And no, i dont want to specc into ar or lavs.) I want my HMG to function as a machine gun, and that is as an long range anti-infantry weapon.
The whole idea that an heavy should be a CQC expert is a very bad design. |
