Vets have been playing dust with its vision in mind, that being that this is not a run of the mill fps and that dust will have mmo type gameplay added to the fps, granted the customisation is great but every update brings us closer to a twitch type shooter we can find anywhere and we have been waiting patiently.
New players don't seem to know anything about dusts vision and what its heading towards, they seek to unknowingly ruin dust by spouting rubbish as such as 'ttk is fine get good' and 'Logis need a HP nerf' etc.
I think you need to re address where dust is supposed to be heading or just tell us its going to be another twitch with the added stress of isk loss+ months of skilling to take 4 extra bullets.
These are the two conflicts of interest, new naive players and vets.
PS. And probably new and vet cod fanbois.

When I first joined dust as a nweberry I was attracted by the deep customization and solid counters to everything.
I remember seeing a tank for the first time and thinking it was unstoppable until a team of AV took him down hard.
I remember hacking an objective for the first time and getting shotgun rounds to the back.
I remember my very first advanced suit and grinning like a fool at all the improvement in the suit, from ehp, to stamina, and running it on the field knowing that my hard work was paying off and I was making my way as an immortal.
It's gone now, the customization, the improvement, the feeling of progression, the tactics, and the feeling that I was making my way as a merc.
What's left is something I look at and feel sickened, this isn't the Dust 514 I joined, it's not the Dust 514 I hoped it would become.
I can only hope it becomes the game it was portrayed to be, the game I joined fir and fell in love with, hope and dream.

I salute you for that warming post..while i know not of my first time here...because it has corroded my mind to the point of blocking it out, i wish of the same thing. That this game will finally be what it was promised...maybe then people will start coming back.

The thing is, it's starting to feel like CCP has lost track of where this game is supposed to be going. I mean, I've been here on and off since closed beta (couldn't say exactly when but SR's and AR's had the same scope LOL) and this game bears little to no resemblance to what was and is being advertised. It feels like they all need to sit down at a meeting and iron this **** out.
either way I'll prob still be floating though from time to time waiting for Dust to reach it's potential.

I fell in love with this game back when scouts were something you had to call out to a squad and heavies needed as much SP as a HAV compared to other suits. The game looked like something Bungee, threw up, bud damn was it fun. Everyone was so fast and the fire fights were so intense with all the strafing and "holy crap that guy has crazy shield regen!" moments that made each encounter as memorable as the next. Every role and weapon was well represented and their presence was known from heavies that blocked any head on advancement with a wall of lead that probably outgunned anything you had to scouts that were acrobatic little bastards that you better kill before they get to close or you were most likely going to be sent to the fitting selection screen.
I look back on the epicness that Dust was in those days with fond memories. But when I look at what the game has become, I can't help but vomit in my mouth a little. Please CCP, bring back the awesomeness that we remember. We're all already hooked, but we're just not having fun.
I tried to put a level into Amarr Commando once, but got a server notification saying "Why?"

Anyways, dude the new TTK is a game changer and I feel your frustration. However, its not as bad as you make it seem.
If you never heard of ReGnYuM, you're neither Good or Relevant in Dust 514.

hate to agree with this one, ttk is not long enough, i dont get into fights anymore
its the Rifles ease of killing thats the problem, snipers and forge gunners i expect ohk from a skill standpoint (ok snipers needs some work map wise)
rest of the weapons seem fine, if one fit / weapon is used by everyone and their mum then it needs to be balanced
The armor buff for heavies now makes the proto mass driver really fun vs them they are hard to take down, a force to be afraid of, but pickup my trusty AR bpo and splatter them within a moment
i really dont want a twitch shooter, if i did i would be on BF or COD
does anyone still run self armor reppers? no use at all during a fight, i want to have viable builds a tank fit thats not just a buffer tank, we need a massive reduction in damage on the weapons with Rifles being top of the list
but also i do love the idea of having more vids of Dust's vision in your quarters, so you can see things as they change
really sad when i went into the Dust PS home lounge to see all the screens turned off and nothing of any real substance to the games deep lore and plans

I remember when I, as a scout shotgunner, could enter a room with a heavy entering the other side and we clear the room. I also remember that if I was seen, I was dead, and that if the heavy was seen, next thing you knew, there was an EFFING TANK!

When I started playing this game, I thought that you could make an unique character and adapt yourself to the tides of battle.
Now that I have been playing this for almost one year (yeah ) I think everyone is just abusing medium frames, OP core locus grenades and AR-like weapons (myself included, speced into ScR recently to not be f'd in the a by this game). You can not really adapt to different situations on the battlefield, unless you have the SP to carry proto scout, proto medium suit, proto heavy and the weapons related to being versatile.
The only way to "adapt or die" is to get a medium suit (logi is king) and AR/ScR/RR(1.7)/CR(1.7).

over a year ago, I was in the playstation home event horizon lounge, I had just finished my 1st victory at the slay game and went to watch the videos to get my code.
I downloaded the game and was amazed at the introduction, the beginning of a new life in new eden, this galaxy I had never heard of until then, I was amazed at what I was seeing... war, death, explosions, countless tanks destroying everything, countless mercenaries shooting at each other, I saw dropships flying around shooting at other dropships and the tanks on the ground I saw LAVs drving to the objectives.
then I created my very 1st original profile "Void Echo", i was put into the merc quarters not knowing what anything was, i was amazed at the futuristic style and feel of the game itself, it was the very 1st future sifi space type game i have ever heard of for the playstation, i thought to myself Quote:this must be playstation's version of halo, ******* awesome, finale we get a game like that.
then i got to my 1st battle, i was confused for about 10 seconds over the controls since i was used to the call of duty controls and some of the controls here are still switched around and i have no way of converting them, anyway i look through my cope to see how to aim (I MISS THE E3 SCOPE FOR THE AR DAMNIT, I COULD ACTUALLY SEE WHAT I WAS HITTING)... a few seconds later i saw the 1st red dot in the battle, i ran after him and started shooting +50 (Void Echo Militia Assault Riffle Bobby Jahnsaw) and i was amazed at the gameplay.. unfortunately i had little interest in skilling up in the game since i didn't know what i was doing with it, so i stopped playing it for a while and went back to call of duty LOL.
a few months later i met this guy who inspired me to rejoin the immortal life in dust with him.. i had no idea that in the months to follow that guy would develop a god like image of himself and purge everyone who he saw as useless from his corporation network. during the 1st few months i looked through the skill books and the market place but nothing caught my attention or interest until i saw the tab Heavy Assault Vehicles... i clicked on it and was astounded at what i saw... actual tanks that i could personally use, i thought to myself Quote:holy ****, iv never actually dealt with vehicles in call of duty, mgs or any other fps game iv ever played, i wonder how it will be .. i bought the skill book for HAVs and started my journey to be a tank driver.
and that is how i came to be who i am now.
BUT...... sadly, so very sadly, this game and CCP lied to me, this game is NOT nor ill it ever be the Dust 514 i saw then and was promised to be real now.

I think all roads dust would have taken would have lead to -----> NICHE. Cause to be honest dust was never a great FPS in closed beta, open beta, uprising or now.
FPS players around the globe won't be tripping over themselves to play this game, and even less crossing over to eve.
The divide is the same divide that's been in this community since day one.
Is dust a complimentary ADD-ON to eve? or is DUST destined to become the number one FPS of all time?
Many in the forums wanted this ^^^^^ and others wanted this ^^^^^^^

NO. that is the short answer. Mixing genres should never be about forcing pieces to fit.
I think at this time that if your at least not interested in any part of eve-online then your time in this game is going to be short.

Make heavies scary. Make scouts scary. Assaults and Logi's are already scary. Need more EVE connection.... FPS mechanics are improving though, as are graphics. Make proto scary. Tanks - make 'em scary. Drop ships, make em... useful. LLAVs... make 'em less ridiculous.

I could name a few corps and games who catered almost entirely to newbs in the end, those are gone now. We the players get newbs involved so cater to what you have, re work and re launch on ps4.

Completely changing the game and how it was envisioned to be played is a pathetic attempt for CCP to salavage something from this debacle...
They aren't going to keep funding a losing project for the fun of it anymore. They need to be like every other shooter if they hope to make back their investment...
Remember what the new Executive Producer said "We're going to turn up the action..."

I'd suggest scrapping all notion of trying to hook new players and concentrate on what you have, consider it still in beta, re launch on ps4, those that don't stay now will be back for it on ps4. Simple.

You are right but where you go **** up completely wrong is the 'funding a losing prtoject' f2p does not compete, there's no production cost of burning millions onto CD and 10 years of subscriptions from hundreds of thousands of players from eve is a lot of cash considering CCP is also half the size of other game companies. The don't have to 'compete' like other companies, why do you think CCP is so laid back lol.

Am I really the only one that remembers Chromosome as broken? We had greater versatility but also allot of broken mechanics. - Lasers that melted my proto heavy in less than half a second - Proto tanks that was unkillable and totally annihilated the other team in ambush matches - Proto heavy builds that cost close to 500k isk, was twice as expensive as the other suits. - Shotguns that could one hit kill at 15 meters distance - Scouts that was impossible to hit due to poor hit detection - Mouse users having tremendous advantage turning 180 degress in an instant - Keyboard users having advantage driving tanks - Very small ambush maps, some either a laser show or everyone was using ARs with sharpshooter 5, could kill anyone from across the map area. - Keyboard straffing players that was unhittable by DS3 users - Forge guns destroyed LAVs on one hit - TTK was shorter in Chromosome than what we have today
There is definitely still room for improvement in Uprising, I am not saying it is perfect today, but definitely better than Chromosome, many of the flawed mechanics was fun for the part that used it compared to the ones that was on the opposite end of the laser death beam etc. |

from your list the mouse and keyboard still needs work TTK was shorter only after the damage buff, which was needed as a general rule but not for AR they worked great back then (apart from range)
we need all the bullet physics to come in, bullet drop, less accurate at range (snipers having to aim high or low depending on range) damage reduction at range more sensible, then balancing can start productively
the real bane for me with this build is AR (still) and unkillable vehicles, with people driving/flying around cant be killed then just jumping out to kill or cap (granted thats being fixed in 1.7)
but even with all that was wrong with Chromosome it was fun to play, we will alwyas have fotm weapons but they should be close and have a good counter
we are far from done with weapon balance, its never going to end.
For example why is the best weapon in the game also the one with the least fitting requirements?
in EvE grid requirements were used to make certain weapons only viable with certain builds as a trade off, the higher potential the dps the higher the fitting needs, which ofc means less tank etc in Dust if i want more HP i end up fitting an AR or shortly it will be the Combat Assault Rifle

I agree, and the problem is most likely caused by the common use of damage mods. Only way to counter stacked damage mods is tank or dps and only way to counter the tank is to stack more damage mods.
Increasing tank will make it much worse for new players and even more obligatory to stack damage mods. New form of defensive or offensive modules are needed or it will never change. The stealth part of the game might persuade some to add scanning modules instead of tank, but still the incentive is not high enough, I hope this will change in the future.
Removing weapon proficiency and damage mods will decrease the advantage veteran players have, I think there still need to be an advantage having played for a year, spend money on boosters etc. compared to the new player.
And new powerfull weapons for the heavy that would require certain shield type modules to protect against could also change the dymanic I think. Deployable mobile shields, deployable drones where you need modules to increase control range of the drones and their abilities etc. |

We could also have a module that added an extra layer of armor that only once would protect against a deadly explosion. Could decrease the grenade spamming issue slightly and you would have less tank or damage modules added. |

I want a needle that can inject reds before they bleed out, hold them there for an extended period of time, and then detonate when one of their logi tries to rez. Zombie Bomb needle as it were.

Eve's use of dmg mods is good
it worked on the basis on using low slots for damage mods so damage mods means less armor tank / less passive shield rep / less capacitor
for those who dont know, capacitor is used to fire guns, boost your shields and rep your armor
all this meant you could not run your best tank and your best damage at the same time, it was about balance and tactics
We dont have capacitor for a good reason (active tanking on a suit would be a nightmare to balance and use) , however we are missing the ability to repair while engaged in a fight
i would like to "try" having self armor reppers in highs and have them provide serious amounts of reps so it does regenerate during engagements
also having passive shield regen modules in lows to have the same effect then have the rep tool rep both shield and armor and remove the shields current delay and super boost back to full
Another option would be to make the rep tool an always on aoe around the player, so squads close to each other benefit (still shield and armor) it would affect you and those around you with a decent area of affect, you can be affected by more than one so it should not be an insane rep amount but enough to make fights last longer, have people want to stay near others
this would also fix the current issue of not being able to see who needs reps and it means if you need reps head to your nearest bright yellow object ;D
at current level and plucked out of my head i would start this off at 50hp/s for proto rep tool (it would provide 50hp/s total to someone split equally between shields and armor until one is full then full rate to the other) you could set a cap but tbh if enough team members are all running them and all that close together to self rep a silly number then change your tactics and wip and a forge and enjoy the kill feed
this still requires a drop in AR damage but rest of the weapons would work fine i think |
