In most shooters that I've had the pleasure to play, they all allow you one key ability that I noticed right off the bat, is not available to us Dust Bunnies to make use of.
The ability to prone.
Any one whom has ever fired a gun knows that firing from a standing/kneeling position offers very limited accuracy over distances. Due to lack of muscle relaxation and other misc. variables that would compromise the integrity of your pattern down range.
It gives you advantages, such as making you a smaller target for hostile fire. It lets you make use of more cover (smaller chest high barriers that even though you are crouched behind, the tip of your helmet is still itching to sprout pink mist out everywhere.) Better accuracy down the range.
While also offering disadvantages. The primary one is movement restriction. you are much slower, and more likely not to dodge a spray of fire as you would be while standing/strafing. Lowered momentum into grenades thrown, or perhaps even the complete nullification of using grenades/equipment while in prone. Slower take off time to gtfoutta dodge.
I'm not sure how it would be implemented to be balanced. Considering Heavies in my theory would not be able to use prone, unless the penalty on time going prone to standing and vice verse were increased for their suit. Scouts of course being able to do it the quickest, leaving assault/logi in the middle..
But in conclusion, just the ability to use more cover, more effectively, would shut me up.

A large part of the community would like to go prone aswell, I am one of them.
As for the whole muscle relaxation thing, we are 20,000 years into the future and are wearing suits that give us the ability to carry weapons that weigh as much as we do so the suit probably has a part in firing weapons down range aswell.
+1 :)

Now, how would you kill that sniper?
It's take at least 2 shots to kill most anything, and lining that itty bitty little pixel on that other itty bitty little pixel is quite hard.
This would basically make snipers invulnerable 100 yards and out.

When I first came from battlefield, I wanted to go prone, but have since realized Dust is not really that type of game.
Besides, I'm not for anything that helps snipers in any way.

Have it so Light and Medium suits could go prone. Heavies can go prone but only if they don't have a heavy weapon.

I agree, but also I think we should have traditional support by fire weapons if we could go prone. A proper machine gun that can provide grazing fire and distance while in the prone is something that this game needs. I think going prone would however, slow down the game play as fire and maneuver would become even more important than it already is.
I would also like to include the ability to support you position via, bipod or prone to allow for a covered and supported firing position with limited muzzle dispersion.

I have a low end sniper alt. Sniping is easy mode as is with relatively low risk. The first this was implemented, every sniper with a thale would be red line sniping, virtually making it a no risk high reward bullshit gameplay style. |

I'm against prone. It promotes campy gameplay- we have enough of that from equipment spam, we don't need to give blueberries the ability to lie down for 5 minutes at a time waiting for the enemy to come at them. |

As someone whoGÇÖs used to play war-games IRL(paintball) and on counsels, it confounds me that this is lacking in Dust 514. Going prone is a very useful tactical maneuver, both while hiding or moving into position.
As for the whole GÇÿHeaves shouldnGÇÖt go proneGÇÖ, of course the can. If a Heavy is ressed, it gets up on itGÇÖs own. What however does make sense is how fast they do it compared to the other suits.
Also, I would rather see one button to lower oneself and another to raise, instead of one to jump and one to change stance as we have now, which feels counterintuitive.

I seen games with the option to gone prone with smaller maps than the ones in Dust 514, but I agree that the maps need to reflect the change. With more routs people can move, making it harder to camp one chokepoint.

This would also let DUST rise (or fall depending on your view) to the levels of other FPSs that have many YouTube videos of exploits based on their prone animations.
