I find it absolutely laughable that we're still under the impression that anything with Tiers will ever work. EVE Online realized this mistake and did away with it, making every ship balanced and fun in it's unique little role.
Unfortunately, we're left with Dust 514 which has progressively better tiers as they rise up. Standard, Advanced, Proto... I get -WHY- they did it, they're trying to make it so that the better the gear the more expensive it is because this ISN'T Eve Online and the fact that you're losing gear constantly as opposed to every so often, there needs to be some measure of sanity to how much you're honestly spending/losing.
But let's be real with ourselves here. The ISK is a non-factor. It's not even in the equation because -EVERYONE- can gain ridiculous amounts of ISK in some way, shape or form. PC capable groups get it by the barrel and those who aren't can just AFK a few dozen matches and have enough to field their proto needs.
And it wouldn't even be so bad if Proto gear was in some way balanced but when you have Caldari Logistics (still the master race for months) running stacked complex damage mods -AND- armor tanking? You can't honestly expect the newer guys to compete, hell I'm already frustrated and all I did was run a bit of aurum standard gear to try out the recently buffed Heavies and fixed Shotguns.
The **** is already unbalanced, we all know that, but I feel that trying to balance around these silly tiers is a bad way to go about things. It's the reason no other game does this anymore is solely because of the fact that it's just a progressively better system - there's no real risk involved if the ISK isn't a factor so why NOT run Proto in pub matches? Why NOT run Proto -all the time-? Hell, as an experiment I ran all Proto for a week in pub matches/faction warfare and I came out POSITIVE as far as ISK is concerned.
Honestly, need to do away with all this 'advanced' and 'proto' non-sense and just have everything revolve around one or two suits. It's insanely easier to balance, it's a hell of a lot more fun and skill reliant. Medium Frames could obviously be a little worse but they should still have bonuses - with their specialization suits (assault and logi) having a few more bonuses and maybe a few more slots but they should never exceed themselves in some silly tier system.
Look, all I'm saying is that it's a stupid way to go about things and it's not fun for anyone - it really isn't. Devs have to spend more time balancing a plethora of different tiers for different suits, new players get their ass handed to them with no real hope of turning the tides and veteran players running proto constantly don't learn anything when they're feeling God mode for killing Dust toddlers.
So, yeah. I don't want to have to run Proto to stay competitive in a ******* pub match. I don't want to do PC -all- the time.
