As some of you may or may not know, on the day dust's NDA was lifted a while back, I and several others did a 24 hour charity dust marathon for a charity called Child's Play. We raised over $300 for charity which was fantastic and I always wanted to do another.
Only thing is that things in my personal life have gotten in the way recently so I havnt really had the time.
I have, however seen that VD and a few others are planning their own event which is fantastic, which is why I am considering auctioning off the signed poster I won at the fanfest tourney.
I actually got it signed with the express intention of doing something like this at some point, what i was wondering is if I where to post this on ebay with the intent of putting all proceeds to charity, would you guys bid or should I hang on to it for a little longer. Either way i want this to be used for charity in some way.

Jenza this is great! I love this idea, but I think that you should hold on to it.
These charity's are a smaller, non DUST community driven one but one day, another DUSTer may need help and something like this to drive the fundraiser would be awesome!!

Just a suggestion but it might gain more support if you could find a way to auction it such that the proceeds are collected by the charity ... as we saw with Quickgloves there are some that would just call it a scam and say you're putting it up as a charity auction to improve the buy-ability of it.
Not my opinion ... but I'm just saying if it could be done in a way that was more transparent than an ebay auction with a promise to donate I think it would get more support.
Edit : also I'm sure that's the same rug I've got rolled up in the garage lol ... no room for it now. |

I think the main difference is that in game isk scamming is one thing, taking money meant for charity is fraud and illegal. Legal implications aside, I would never do something intrinsically immoral.

No, I don't doubt it ... but I know there are people that would and there are people that would (and did with QG) slur any threads about it. There are also those that wouldn't say anything, but would just shy away from it just in case.
All I'm saying is it would be good if there was a way to show that it was genuine ... I don't know, does ebay do anything like that for charities ... or maybe there are other auction sites that do ... or even donate it to the charity and have them set up the auction which could be linked to from the forums ... I don't know, I'm just pointing out what will happen, cos it happened in QG thread even after it was stickied by devs. |
