I've gonna 24/4 two matches in a row with a Dual SMG Minmatar Assault.
When the MagSec comes out you will have an even longer range SMG to pair with the regular SMG.
Another bonus that the Minmatar Assault has is that it is the only Assault suit with natural armor repair, its only 1hp/sec but that is something.

The CPU/PG on the min assault is insufficient to make full use of all those high slots. Even with max skills you will have to make severe compromises. This will come as a real shock if you're used to the min logi, which can be well fitted even with mediocre engineering/electronics skills. |

That is exactly what I was afraid of, but after playing with the fitting tool it doesn't seem to bad.
Of course, as earlier stated I cannot fit prototype primary/sidearm weapon without making compromises but then again, I think it's the same with other assaults also.

Of course, as earlier stated I cannot fit prototype primary/sidearm weapon without making compromises but then again, I think it's the same with other assaults, maybe excluding Amarr by looking at the stats. In terms of effective CPU/PG for assaults Ama>Gal>Cal/Min.
Although the Min on paper has slightly higher CPU/PG than the Cal and Gal, this is offset by the fact that the Min trades a low for a high, relative to the Cal, and two highs for two lows relative to the Gal (which also gets a weapon fitting bonus). A high uses up much more CPU/PG to use well. There's a big difference in fitting between a basic armour plate (10/1) and a complex shield extender (54/11), which are actually comparable items (the plate actually gives you significantly more HP, though with drawbacks).
On the plus side, the min has +1hp/s innate rep (which I'd forgotten about on here when I was writing the suit off yesterday...), so you save a bit of PG/CPU not having to fit a repper. So I'd say it's about the same as the cal overall - which is to say, limited in terms of fitting, but still an effective suit for those with high electronics/engineering skills. |

With max skills on the caldari assault you should still be able to fit
2 complex damage mods 2 complex shield extenders 2 proto weapons nades (I think I had core locus) 2 basic armor plates kd/17 repping hive/advanced scanner 1 enhanced cpu upgrade
I'm still groggy, but that should be correct.

Minmatar are slightly faster than other assault suits and at proto-level they have 5 high slots. (woo hoo) Looking at the numbers, it's slightly disappointing. It seems I can't fit anything sensible at advanced level. Try to max out the speed advantage? Yeah good luck with that. Max out shields? Meh. It seems Caldari assault is easily best for slaying with its shield recharge rate. Minnie Assault users, care to share your experiences?
Ishukone assault SMG is a handcannon and with this suit it has 20 more rounds to dish out then normal. If you want some real good fun, slap some of the officer SMGs onto it, and some sidearm damage mods, and BOOM what you have there is an assault rifle that shoots 300 rounds per minute faster. This suit is all about rapid assault. Flank, hit, then run. The shield tanking is near useless on this suit purely because of the awful shield regen. But if you slap on a couple damage mods, sprint mods, and maybe an SR (for long range) and an SMG (for close range) you can have a rapid assault unit, capable of quickly out maneuvering opponents and getting valuable flank shots on them.

Nice thing about 5 highs is you could shield tank and stack damage mods. I don't run Minmatar gear, but if I did I'd probably use 3 shield extenders and 2 complex sidearm damage mods.
^^^ This.
Dual SMG's with dmg mods. Run shield ext and a kin cat. Think like this, the increased speed is the substitute for armor tank. So use speed to your advantage. I run min assault, have been experimenting with this build.
Adv Min Assault
2x Complex Shield ext
1x Complex Side arm Dmg mod
1x m209 (or m512) 1x toxin SMG
1x flux grenade 1x Kin cat (militia right now, working on lvl 5) 1x profile dampener
This set up is FUN! Use flanking and anything within 30m is toast. If you can equip Flux go for it, SMG's eat armor. |

I think that RegnYum is on to something, that something being the way the class was intended to be utilized. What you are experiencing may be a result of the game's current build. Remember AR's TTK is pretty sick right now, couple with the fact they are more proficient against shield....obviously you have an increased TTK with armor tank. However, you gimp the speed, you gimp the class. Go Caldari if you want to duel tank effectively. Right now the minmatard assault is gimped cause AR TTK is OP and extra effective against shield tanks.

Keri Starlight wrote:Minmatar Assault is one of the best suits for flankers and skirmishers.
You are faster than anyone else (but scouts, of course) and this means that no one is going to catch you if you keep your distances from the chokepoints. It also means that you might want to shield tank like a boss, because you don't actually need kin cats and cardiac regulators, so you may put 2 enhanced shield regulators to get all you can from your 5 high slots (shield modules).
Once again, if you're playing this role (flanker/skirmisher) and you're using a tactical weapon (Scrambler, Tac AR, Laser, etc) the racial bonus is pure gold, as you can unleash your SMG and drop 3 people with a single clip.
I went Caldari mainly because I didn't want to look like an ugly ass, lol (Minmatar medium frames look cool for men, but... ugh... not really for women). And I wanted to stay loyal to my race. With a Caldari suit I generally rather brick-tanking, because I don't have enough PG and CPU to speed tank on my low slots.
So whenever I get caught, I can't run that fast, but at least I have enough HP to survive a direct fight.
Conclusion: IMO Minnie Assault is a good suit. It migh not be the best for run and gun HP tanking playstyles, though.

As a Minmatar Assault I can give you my opinion on it... And the following is: "Hit-n'-Run".
That's how I see the Minmatar playstyle for the most part. Once you start taking a few hits half your shields will go down in less than a second, especially againts the Assault Rifle, then again it depends on the weapon.
My sudgestion is running: 4x Complex Shield Extenders, x1 Enhanced Shield Energizer.
An SMG is a must for this suit, trust me..

That fit is garbage. No Catalyzer? Not even a reg, but a armor plate? There is no point in trying to tank armor on an Min Assault, especially for CQC, that armor plate is barely like 6 Duvolle bullets worth of damage and it makes you more vulnerable to their backpedal/bunny hops.
and why a proto shotgun? thats such a waste of cpu
There is nothing you can do with that suit to make it a viable shotgun fit against Good players. Is inferior to Min logi and Gallente scout and has a bigger hitbox than min scout

It is ideal for non-conventional light weapons. Such as Swarms, Plasma Cannons, or Mass Drivers, since the improved sidearm gives you a defence advantage, the speed of the suit means you can take your light weapon where it is most needed, and the many high slots can stack damage mods to power it up upon use.
Dual Scrambler pistols is also insane and devastating.

You need Complex shield extenders to use the Proto competitively or else you have the easiest to destroy and most expensive waste of a suit in the game.
Also, Complex dampener, as scanners will completely negate your hit and run, I.mean COMPLETELY.
This suit is really fun at a beginning level, but it will make you scorn it more than any other suit, unless you spend SP on CPU & PG mods, Complex shields, Complex Damage mods and Dampening.

Here is my fit, im fairly new to the suit and took a while to grow on me but i love my minmatar assault pyjamas now.
4 complex extenders 1 complex energizer 1 complex shield reg complex cpu upgrade duvolle six kin (or ishukone assault can't remember) core locus K-2 nanohive
I get that its kind of just a poor mans caldari suit but it is speedy and i find that a base 5.3 movement speed makes up for lack of hitpoints in a 1v1 engagement, a little different when five guys are drilling your forehead but hopefully you will have the speed and situational awareness to avoid such encounters.
I still need some more time testing and further optimizing but plates are for sure not the way to go and i really dont think the side arm bonus is all that great to be honest, 80 round SMG is enough for me but i wont complain about 100 i guess . Just a speedy shield based hit n run suit in my opinion. |
