Heavy HP 405/405 ---> 480/480 which is an 18% bump in HP Commando HP 250/250 ----> 325/325 which is a 30%(!) bump in HP
Repair tool buff: now 40/60/70 hp/s
Forge Gun splash nerf: STD 2.5m -> 1.5m, ADV 2.75m -> 1.8m, PRO 3m -> 2.1m
First, I'm excited about the HP buff because it fits with the primary role of Heavies, which is to tank n' spank. An 18% bump in HP isn't as effective as a 2% reduction in small arms fire/level, but it should help with our survivability.
Commando has been upgraded from near useless to possibly serviceable. I would have preferred more module slots, but a 30% bump in total HP is pretty huge. We'll see how this plays out.
Repair Tool buff means the old fattie/logi combo is now more effective. Now if only CCP can figure out a way to get Logis to start playing as Logis...
Why am I happy about the Forge Gun change?
1) They left splash damage the same. 2) It's still pinpoint accurate. 3) It still does all of its ferocious base damage. 4) It keeps the wannabe fattie scrubs from using the weapon.
Forge Gun sniping SHOULD be a skillshot. And it still will be. The proto tier now has slightly less splash range than the previous standard grade, and I never had a problem with the range of standard. This is about the tamest of nerfs we could have hoped for.
Last, CCP is promising a massive content update for 1.7. If they actually get their **** together and deliver on that promise, we may FINALLY be seeing the rest of our racial fat suits. I may have to stop being such a biting, sardonic ass toward them if it actually comes true.

Kasote Denzara wrote:I stopped reading after the remark about the Commando. I promise you. The Commando is one of the most underrated suits in Dust 514. Those that I have slain with it will agree.
Then you likely left a happy stain in your pants upon reading the patch notes.
I'm not totally ignorant of the Commando's benefits, I just don't respect them. Double Swarm Launcher or Double Masshole fits are annoyingly effective, they're just cheap.
In the future, Scrambler Rifle + Combat Rifle could be neat. Melt shields and then armor. But if you have any other secret sauce you'd like to share, your fattie brethren could use some enlightenment.

Yup.

Kam Elto wrote:It's a step in the right direction. But they should have buffed the HMG damage. The SMG shouldn't be doing more damage than the HMG. It shoots pistol rounds.
The SMG doesn't...
SMG base DPS is 383, while the HMG base DPS is 600.
The HMG actually spits out more damage than any other infantry weapon in the game, save the breach shotgun. (It actually beats most light turrets.) The problem is that it only does that damage at knife-fighting range. That dispersion is killer.
I've often wondered what the gun would feel like if they introduced the same Sharpshooter dispersion skill for HMG that the AR and SMG already have. I bet it'd go a long way to fixing it.
