They have no need for armour as they're surrounded by thick metal plating and shielding. So light makes sense.

I'd say Light or maybe Medium.
Pilots don't need much armor since they'll be inside the vehicle and protected from harm. They won't be able to get shot since to my knowledge, the LAVs are the only vehicle we're getting that leaves the driver exposed and why would a pilot drive an LAV? LAVs are more geared towards mobilized infantry than a dedicated pilot.
If the pilot is forced to abandon their vehicle then they'll rely on stealth to get to a safe location so they can call in another, and Heavy frames have the largest signature and slowest movement speed. |

Pilots have always been lightly armored and hard to detect.
It shouldn't be a heavy because you need a fast, light, hard to detect suit to be able to quickly run away from your vehicle in the case that it's about to blow up...or to run away from enemies, or to make sure you are invisible in the case that someone detects you as you're calling in a vehicle.
Also, pilots should be able to fight back on the ground with a bonus to sidearms/pistols, but only in a defensive way. This makes the most sense for a light frame instead of a heavy.
