Drive down the price and then buy and sell them for the same low price to someone else? I still don't understand what difference it will make. |

Or how about they use them to stomp your corp hardcore. Then you don't want to fight them because you cannot compete against them. Members leave your corp because you cannot compete then corp fails. |

actually, once the player market comes here, officers will no longer be attainable by anything other that the market. not even salvaging anymore.

I understand that. But I've got like 70 of them so I could run them for a good long time if I wanted to but I kill just fine with a Duvolle. So while I see what you're saying I just don't think it's going to be all that big of a deal. |

Every time the top 2 corps go at it hardcore most everyone uses officer weapons. Two fine examples are PFBHz vs. IMPs and TP vs. AE.

They'll try cornering the market for everything. All officer weapons and all the fancy suits.
If the price for Thales is suddenly 1,000,000 ISK per unit, then I bet the game will just supply more. I rarely use them, despite my ongoing love affair with it.
The thing is, you can do very well with a charged sniper rifle and a bunch of complex damage mods.
Save the Thales for PC, your birthday or days when you really want to draw attention.

And trust me when I say if there is one thing CCP has a handle on it's game economics and there's no way they'll tie the drop rate into the market. That makes zero sense.
The market for officer weapons is going to be more or less a way for people to trade without having to track down individual players. Sell what you don't want to buy what you do want. That's the way I see it anyway, but it's just a guess so don't punch me in the balls if I'm wrong. |

Wilson Ribeiro wrote:Marston VC wrote:Its kind of hard to monopolize items that are random generated for everyone by just playing the game...... Honestly nobody really knows whats going to happen. This sort of thing only happens in eve because a big corp takes over the PRODUCTION of a certain item. They create a scenario where only their corp is capable of making a certain item, and then drive the price way up. Buying and selling can work, but in Dust's case its kind of difficult simply because of 1.) THE sheer volume of weapons that will be for sale on the market. and 2.) the fact that these weapons can be random generated and nobody really "needs" them to begin with.
so will a monopoly happen? Maybe. But like I said, its really hard to monopolize a resource you don't truly control. They cannot control the generation of the weapons, but they can put a price that will sound more attractable than playing 50 battles to get 1 Thale.
and your right about that. But lets be realistic here. That's NOT a monopoly. And most people that aren't snipers have huge stockpiles of extra officer weapons (thales) that they themselves don't use. I imagine theres going to be a lot of in house trading done (in house meaning corporation trade). Sure some people might want to sell, but for the most part I imagine guy A (with thales) will talk to guy B (with balacs) and be like
"yooooooo dude, you got a balac, I got a thale, lets trade" Followed up by "yeahhhh mannnn your in my corp so I don't see any reason not to" and that's the end of the transaction.

As someone who's been trading/investing semi-regularly in EVE for years with a few hundred billion in assets, I can say the OP is full of poo.
The source of the officer items is not something that the big alliances can monopolise in order to restrict supply, and any variability in supply will be on the scale of seasons and big patches. Now they could as the OP say effect price changes with big enough stockpiles.
Yet doing so requires you not only to have a lot of ISK, but you also have to be constantly active on the markets to .01 isk overbid the other buy orders. And buying from sell orders naturally increases the price if done over longer periods of constant supply.
Not to mention the entity that is going to be a force in the market is more likely to be a handful of dedicated traders who sit at their PS3 all day managing their orders at regular intervals. |

Yeah I know you guys will do that, don't even think about doing that.
