Watching a drop ship through the Rail Gun Installation Turret and it is smooth obviously flown by a good pilot. Well done, but the target strays a little too close and I suspect, nay hope that its end is near.
I fire a round and it connects, shields gone so its armor based. I have three rounds before over heat when ...
the DS starts skipping in front of me. Lag switching while flying a DS. Hmm, interesting in a chicken crap sort of way.
I time my rounds as the lag switch is consistent, move - disappear - slip backwards - move past the last spot - repeat.
Three shots and it flames in front of me, trying to lag switch a way to safety doesn't work as health is 0/0 and fire is the navigator as the DS heads to the ground, skipping, burning and bouncing ... includes a +50WP Kill just to make it even more special.
Lag Switching in a F2P game? Yes, sleaze is everywhere. There is no honor in New Eden.
And there never has been as its universe is filled with Gankers, with love from CCP. |

You have to be a host to effectively use a lag switch. Otherwise it's just regular lag. |

In all fairness I think he believes it's a lag switch because it only started lagging when it was nearly dead

You can't lag switch on dedicated servers. |

Sorry, dudes and dudettes. A lag switch works in both directions.
The dedicated server part assumes many things, but the CCP architecture is designed that it works well enough in many cases. Although in DUST a quick disconnect might have saved a death the Suit and Drop Ship would be lost. Which would be a good reason to try and save it with ... a lag switch.
The offending DS was smooth as glass, flying about never lagging. Very impressive, as I commented on. Then when hit, the massive internet induced lag occurred. Probably connected to a button.
Check out the history of TO_PRO FOR_YOU and his selling of same. Lame tanker teen that sent hate mail for every kill/death. |

Do you even know what lag-switching is? The activity that you are describing is standbying, not lag switching. Lag switching is when you create a disruption in the outbound transmission of your network packets by introducing a interruptable circuit into your transmission wires. It can most definitley work on a dedicated server, provided the server is tolerant of out of order packet transmission and has significant threshhold for packet receipt delays, both of which UDP networking can and often does support. Please do a little research on a subject before you say that something isn't possible when it actually is lol
Conversely they could just be downloading files on the PS3 purposefully to create lag, it's the same principle

You believe that CCP's game servers are designed to update their internal model to take into account late updates from one client, even when they have sent that state to other clients?
I suppose it is possible they have built it that way, but wouldn't that create a game in which the advantage goes to the player with the slowest connection?

a real "lag switch" only works on P2P servers and only on the host. When he starts up the lag he makes the whole lobby come to a stand still, while he is free to move about. Youtube it to see what it looks like.
If someone uses a lag switch on dedicated servers then all they achieve is lag till they disconnect. This serves them no advantage at all.
In the past I've forgotten that I was downloading something on my computer while I was playing online. The lag is stupid, and as I said above, serves no advantage.

yes. And your point is?
Consider: this game is made in iceland. Do they want to optimize for high speed, low-latency connections, or medium speed high-latency connections?
I'm thinking the second one.

If they wanted to optimise for high-latency connections, why would they distribute battleservers across multiple continents rather than run everything out of their existing UK data centre?
