I am very sick of sniping some one getting no damage yet i see the shield register a hit and they then know which way to look 4 me on the map. in the last match i played this cost me 3 suits 48k isk each and at least 1 kill do to the same guy knowing he was being shot at and he was then able to shoot me . the first time it was 3 head shots with a proto sniper. this happens often and needs to b fixed

I think this is a result of hot detection being covered through the servers, as on your screen, you see his head poking up a bit, but on his screen and the server, your shots are landing -that much- in front of him.
Or it might have something with your sytem rendering the mountain lower so much as to lower polygon count, whereas he's rendering his mountain full size, thus your shots don't hit.
Again, i think a dev could answer this... If they'd answer that is.

 It's rendering.

A common optimisation trick is to render objects at different quality levels depending on how far away they are. So the mountains the sniper was in that you were looking at were not 100% accurate.

This is why you sometimes see snipers floating in the air.

Good snipers will only have their head exposed too so try aiming for the top of the head.
Due to angles and stuff if you are above the enemy then there is unlikely to be unrendered terrain between you and the enemy.

No this happens to me as well and im not a noob sniper. It has nothing to do with render the only way it would be render is if they would not be visible , and by the short snipe range all of the sniper rifles have there's no mistaken im telling you all who do not snipe dont even post any opinion here cause you cant know what it feels like or what he is talking about .

I feel your pain man they really do rip off the hit damage and alot of the time even the entire hit of the sniper rifle .
A Sniper rifle is met to be one shot kills and no matter what way or what the fuk module you use you cant make it a one hit , But these Over powered Assault rifles can One burst kill !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The assault rifle is the only weapon on this game that has like 5 - - - -- - in its skill tree its so fuking biased .

Part of the reason why I gave up sniping in the first place back in beta. Fights on the old Manus Peak came down to sitting on a hill and seeing who could head glitch the most.

Agreed, now imagine attempting to snipe using a proto suit with 4 complex damage mods and still blue shielding anything you shoot at even when at point blank and not moving an inch range zoomed in to the back of the head! Not even hiding in the hills, but standing with his back to me, I ended up meleeing him to kill him rather than shooting because after the first 3 bullets blue shielding it seemed silly not to bash him with my gun.

I play a sniper and I've never experienced that shields register a hit, but the merc takes no damage. I really dunno about this. Maybe lag?

On the topic of hitting snipers who only poke their heads out of cover... I've been in a lot of such situations. On both ends.
I think the problem is in the aiming "resolution". You aim at a person's head, your aiming dot turns red, indicating that you should score a hit, but when you fire, target takes no damage. If you move your aim by just one pixel upwards, you will actually aim above the head and miss. It seems to me that in the first case your bullets hit the terrain just in front of the target (I've seen this many times - little puffs of dirt just in front and below my poking head), and in the second case the bullets fly over your head. The problem is that you can't adjust your aim by "half a pixel" so that you could eventually hit the sniper's poking head.
Possible solution: use a Thale's which has much better scope magnification, and consequently, better aim resolution.

Been there, I hate it to. I sometimes feel like making a video of me shooting you 20 times and send it the person with the caption you owe me one clone and a lot of ammo. They are in range, I can see there stats, and my bullets seem to not hit at all.

Caused my issues sniping. Got closer to the mountain to get eyes on the sniper and a hill rendered in front of the enemy once I got closer.

i should not need to use a fail with better zoom to hit a clone all sniper rifles should have adjustable zoom on them what kind of adv tec do we have that there is no zoom on a sniper rifle current sniper rifles can kill at 1 mile and we cant shoot 500 yards.
zoom shood at least get better with every level of sniper weapon upgraded
if its rendering then it needs to b fixed
meany times i can hit the sniper if i move just a little and shoot a diff spot it seems to b the head shot that shows hit yet doesn't damage

As some have stated, a improved zoom for sniper-rifles would help a lot.
Was trying to counter-snipe a sniper today, but I was using thumbstick and the range meant it was next to impossible to line up a headshot, even though he was standing still.

So, some better zoom or auto aim if the sniper keeps the target in the center long enough (kinda like lock-on for swarm launchers).

we don't need aim assist we need better zoom so that 1 pixel diff doesn't make you miss in the dirt or shoot over there head

Had it happen to me before and actually written a thread about it . It happens and don't or can't understand why ??? I've herd that they ( CCP ) are trying to kill sniping off anyway . If I'm wrong then so be it and that makes me happy , but you have already killed my tanks so for me sniping is all I have left . I go attack mode sometimes but just isn't that much fun as driving a tank or sniping to me .

It is neither rendering nor the zoom on the rifles itself. While i agree the sniper rifles should have better zoom that is not the issue you are having. Every gun has an absolute range. That means the damage of each shot gets severely reduced over extremely long range. What is happening is you are to far away to do correct damage. Pay attention to what range you are noticing this happening at and try to keep closer than that. I believe the effective range of most snipers is about 350 units of measure. Just as an FYI

But as to avoid confusion; IGÇÖm not taking about a square as large as the swarm launcher has, neither should the bullet change course during flight to GÇÿhome-inGÇÖ on the target (although we are trying to develop bullets today that actually can modify their trajectory somewhat)

Also, as one here pointed out; Weapons have a max range, including the sniper-rifle. And seeing as its imperative for the snipers survival that he or she does not waste shots into the air, some range info on the target would be pretty nice.

it is not a range thing when i can move just a little and hit them or change from a head shot to a body shot and do damage its a problem with i see a hit but its not a hit on the guy . if it was a range thing there will b damage still not a hit mark and no damage
