Not going to lie, at first I was under the impression it was just superstition and something for the paranoid to shift the blame on. PC Lag sucks but it's sorta hard to pin down what's causing it.
Now, let me begin by saying that I'm one of those gifted few that rarely gets PC lag. Just something that doesn't occur that often. Sure, I get framerate dips when the action heats up but nothing I can't manage. But after tonight I'm a believer. We had an Eve pilot voice up for a PC match while we used orbital support and the -instant- we reached the objective my PS3 was chugging so slowly that even my PS menu was lagging behind.
I tried to reset but the PS3 just kept flashing the green light, controller was still on and eventually I said '**** it' and pulled the power cord, reset from scratch. Got into the match and everything was working just peachy at first (30+ frames per second was amazing) and soon enough the framerate drops started happening again. I assume it's because of luck, tin foil and a bit of tap water that I landed a 6/3 game at the bottom of my team's list.
I remember bringing it up with CCP FoxFour during Eve Vegas as an issue with which he said he wasn't aware it was one, to which another player (presumably one of those pub-match know it alls) said it wasn't. To that guy, I have to give you the bird just on circumstance.
.... but I'm not without reason... So, the reason for making this thread is to see if anyone else can confirm similar events. Post up with your thoughts and experiences please. |

PC is Dust flagship game mode and its frankly unprofessional that its been six months, yet Frame Rate and Lag still plague PC.

I am glad you're starting to understand the real problem with Dust |

So the slide show videos didn't convince you? You thought people were making it up?
It happens without someone on voice from Eve side.

Yeah - I'm well aware that PC Lag exists - I don't need to be reminded but thanks for looking out for me.
In all seriousness though, I've never experienced it save for sparse occurrence and never as bad as that time. |

I'm convinced that it's two things having similar results. One is equipment spam with scanners, the other is problems with specific combinations of maps and sockets. If you're on a lucky map you're ok so long as you don't get close enough to a problem area for the game to load the high detail assets. Once it does though, it sucks up every last resource your ps3 has to offer. Certain districts in Molden Heath always lag right out when I'm on the attacking team, and other districts I only get mildly annoying lag.
Of course that's about as scientific as reading entrails, so it could just as we'll be something else entirely. Never had an eve player on commas for PC though. |

I still am 90% positive it's actually related to chat channels.
For each channel it needs to: 1. Pull a list of people in the channel 2. Pull new things put in chat 3. Find each player's race and then pull up a picture for it along with rendering the picture when it's loaded. ( This is my guess for the most intensive part )
They removed player avatars from the corp member list and it loads hundreds of times faster |

Hence why restarting helps. It has less people's avatars to render and less chat to keep in memory
I dunno. I might try to convince the corp to run some more extensive testing and iron out all of the factors bit by bit (including the chat channel thing) but knowing my luck someone will accuse us of friendly locking districts, lol. |
