@OP - The forums were similar, however, the big difference is in the two games themselves. You cannot compare the two. One is a space sim on the PC platform. Another is a lobby shooter on the PS3. The PS3 hardware will very soon be outdated. The PC is easily expandable for system requirements and hardware/software. For whatever reason they decided to go with the console when they really should have been developing this on the PC so they wouldn't have to work with a console that is notoriously difficult to develop for.
There is no clear answer, however, my personal opinion is if they keep it on the console the game will fade away to obscurity. Especially compared to other AAA shooter franchises such as Call of Duty, Battlefield, Counter Strike, Borderlands, Bioshock, Far Cry, Halo, and most likely pretty soon Destiny. Dust doesn't even hold a candle to some shooters that are 5 - 6 years old ffs.
EVE on the other hand does not currently have much competition. It certainly had no competition when it was released cause EA pulled the plug on its only direct competitor(Earth & Beyond). SWG also shed almost its entire playerbase at around that same time when the NGE bomb dropped. However, I do think Eve will be hurt significantly once Star Citizen is released when many of their casual players(anyone probably not locked heavily into nullsec activities) will likely abandon ship. SC has good promise, but we shall see I guess. |

Which costs boatloads of time and money so the point is NOT invalid. And as to having more than just shooting? When is that? 5 - 6 years at the glacial coding speed of CCP. Who says another company who specializes in shooters doesn't come out with something similar since then? That is the problem with future plans. They are not finalized and can change. As of right now, however, Dust is a below average lobby shooter with above average customization and an addictive skill system. Basically thats it. |
