This is not a criticism of how excellent these forums are but considering this is all supposed to be one game accessed from 2 separate platforms maybe the forums should be merged so that Eve players who are not involved here could help address issues such as Missions involving Mercs or PC the only interface between the games or Faction Warfare the battle of the ages.
This would allow us to pool our ideas and mix them together rather than segregating us like early american Apartheid-ism or recent African apartheid-ism. We are all clones together lets come together as a group. |

Also for some reason, you can't be logged into both Eve and Dust forums at once? That is an interesting problem that I have not noticed before, going to check it out now. As for the authentication, I don't see why it couldn't have more than one authentication system. Yes it would add a layer of complexity to the web authoring needed but the devs in charge of the sites are smart guys and gals and surely if we can cooperate to drop OBs on a PC district they should be able to cooperate to allow us shared communication in a form other than an in game mailing system. Also this begs the question, why don't we have a DUST Gate yet, we could keep in contact with our friends in corp even if we were at work or away for the weekend and possibly even keep up to date on upcoming PC battles so that we would never miss a fight due to a lack of knowledge or forewarning. There have been plenty of times where I have logged in expecting a battle and been told "oh yeah, we had that an hour ago". |

Nova Knife wrote:Nah.. (not to the OP, but above.)
It's been suggested many, many times by both the community in public and privately by the CPM.
Apparently it's not so much an issue of authentication but of design and layout. Both Eve and Dust have a /TON/ of subforums. Without detracting from either, it's hard to preserve the easy(ish)-to-read layout and accesibility of information for each game and ensure everyone can quickly read what they want without a ton of scrolling.
There are some other hoops, but that's apparently the big one. I would suggest having separate dust and eve sections but all on one forum so both the pilots and mercs could speculate together. I admit, the sub-forums would be a big issue if it were not an easy fix already, observe:
Eve Online Subforums after choosing on an asp styled page Dust 514 Sub-forums after choosing on an asp styled page
Not doing this seems rather lazy to me, imo. See easy implementation, I read both anyways, why not let me log in and comment from one account? |

I really like the idea of a New Eden Section and then the separate Dust and Eve sections allowing a mix in the center and then also allowing mercs and capsuleers to co-mingle on both sides of that line. I don't think the trolling would be any worse than it is now, we already have the forum warriors duking it out on a regular basis so what would really be the difference? Maybe we see portraits of capsuleers beside some of the posts? Not really that much different than what we have now. |

CCP Saberwing wrote:We've discussed this internally and with the CPM numerous times and it's something that merits discussion. Haven't quite figured out the details yet (as Nova alluded to) but it's something we'll keep looking at. That sounds like a very non-committal response that I will take to mean yes, thanks and we'll get to it eventually. In the end you only have so much time, but I would suggest that it merits more than discussion, it merits action sir, please take some. |

Kevall Longstride wrote:Similar problem that we have in the E-UNI forums. I'd like the D-UNI members to be able to have a home there but I know the two aren't compatible yet.
If someone could give me an idiot proof explanation as to why, that would be great. On of the IT gurus in E-UNI told me once but it really was like trying to explain quantum mechanics to a duck.
Though oddly enough I can get my head round quantum mechanics..... Well my guess is that there is a login process that includes a PS3 ID or a CCP ID and those systems do not coexist yet in a usable form. If the Dust forums (already they allow Dust users in) had an Eve login page to allow users to login over multiple types of IDs I believe the problem would be resolved, maybe someone over at Sony can help, I know that without CCP's vision there is at least one gamer that wouldn't have bought a PS3. I am sure there is a way, just not what.
Quick suggestion,
IF (Radio Box: Eve Account == True) then Eve Login Page Back to forums ELSE IF (Radio Box: Dust Account == True) then PS3 Login Page Back to forums Else WebPageDialogue:"Please Select Account type";

So how goes the battle against the horde of wicked code monsters, fighting to gain access to the sacred shared forum? Could CCP raRaRa and CCP Alice use a hand?

When creating arrays of data it is often easier to merge two or more arrays by making an array of arrays. So if you have: ArrayX([ ][ ]) which is 2 dimensional and want to compare it to ArrayY[ ][ ] you can make ArrayZ([ ArrayX ] [ ArrayY ]). What this does is produces references within the ArrayZ( [ ] [ ]) so that it can be found and referenced from the new array. So in this case perhaps a new D-base that references both sides locally to the individual originally separate forum posts rather than the wrong one.
To access all the posts you would require the ID of the data set. So for accessing ArrayX([2][6]) you would use ArrayZ(0(2,6)).
Hope this helps,
DC

BursegSardaukar wrote:I really like this idea. I hope some consideration could be made to binding Dust characters to EVE characters or at least allowing an EVE char to be flagged as playing Dust as well (and vice versa), otherwise certain posts will be written off by one community as "having no idea what he's talking about" simply because he's an EVE or Dust player. I don't think it would be wise to flag a player as playing Eve as well as Dust. Currently Alts are unknown without actually doing homework and checking. Anonymity of who or that their is an alt can be a big advantage in some situations and because of this it seems like a bad idea to indicate their is an alt. I know I have mentioned several times on these forums that I play both games but there is a calculated risk of being listened to by people who would otherwise tell you that they don't think your idea has any merit because it is not like the other game though clearly (if they played it, it is) for instance in this thread (post #7).
