I just want to point out how full of crap you are. Look to the left. See my alliance? And the corp name? When Dust was announced as a PS3 game TEST had a big thread on our internal forums for people to suggest names for our Dust corp. Eventually we voted for one that kept the reddit theme and association with Dreddit (you'll often hear CCP guys miss the first D in our name heh). This was well before closed beta started. That totally sounds like an entire community thumbing it's nose at the game. There are a collection of massive whiners and crybabies in Eve (none of those in Dust, amirite?) who think their favorite game should be CCP's only focus. They don't understand or care that a business wants to diversify their activities to insulate against downturns etc. These people want World of Darkness cancelled, Dust cancelled and ***** and moan endlessly when CCP does something like build a monument...because it was money that could have been spent on *them* instead. They feel that they're entitled to tell CCP what to do with their profits by virtue of being a customer.
Thing is, these "PC master race" guys are a loud but very small minority. You can't use forum activity to decide what a community wants, because the people who are happy with something tend not to post topics about it every 10 minutes. It's why we have a CSM / CPM. People who will sit down, go through all the blurf and figure out what is real vs what isn't and then distill it down to core problems that CCP can address.
When FW orbitals became Eve only, TEST was just entering FW on the space side. People were thrilled that they would finally get a chance to play with us from space. We've lost their attention now and I can tell you why - that first integration of the two games was a small step in the right direction, but it wasn't good enough. There were too many hoops to jump through for a TEST pilot to hook up with a TEST squad and bombard a planet. The cherry on top was the lopsided FW battle creation mechanism that ensured one side always had 100% control, meaning that Dust wasn't actually influencing FW on the Eve side. Our military director asked me several times if there was any way he could help us on the ground and I had to say, unfortunately, that they were already doing everything that CCP was allowing them to do. OBs were profitable, but so difficult to find that only a small minority of players were able to participate. Eventually people gave up, and some became a little bitter about it because they were promised a glorious masterpiece of cross platform play and got...nothing. That bitterness will go away though once CCP finally makes it possible for the space and ground sides of an alliance to actually *work* together toward a common goal.
I'll have to echo Bethny here and add that the KB/M debacle has been a real drain on Subdreddit's activity levels too. We have a lot of people in corp who came to us from Eve, although they're not a majority. Most only joined up when I told them they could use a mouse, because none of them played FPS games with a controller and weren't interested in competing at a level below what they were used to. Few of them are still playing on a regular basis because the game is still too painful to play with a mouse. Some have fully converted to controller. I've tried, but I'm still sticking with the mouse and limiting myself to logistics. For an FPS game if you shoehorn anyone using a mouse into pure support roles because they can't track a target you're going to lose a lot of players. |
