I have been playing this game for a little over 3 months and from day 1 after I watched a few videos on gameplay and I saw this YouTube of a guy absolutely dominating with his maxed out mass driver, so I equipped it after having played the first few games switching from sniper to AR and I wasn't even as close to the skill of the video guy but I fell in love with the game, Dust514, because I fell in love with the mass driver. I was usually a kill or two lower than my deaths but better and hella dinner than the sniper, no knock on snipers, they are skilled. IN FACT THIS IS NO KNOCK ON ANYONE AND I JUST WANT TO EXPRESS MY HONEST OPINION, MEANING THIS ISNT A LOADED RANT, RESPONSE, OR SUGGESTION. It's just me expressing my experience. Oh yes the YouTube was named "100% profit, or pure profit dust514" or similar. Okay to wrap up I since have mostly maxed out the entire mass driver tree 5 for driver operation, ammo, rapid reload, 4 on proficiency, & 3 on fitting optimization. So upgrade all of that, along with upgrading my suit from the starter to level 4 heavy with upgrades in armor, shield extender and light damage mods. So you would think with all these upgrades, the experience gained over three months and the advantage over brand new players I would have at least balanced out my K/D ratio and well be having a lot more fun with the game. Well im sorry to say this is now a love/hate relationship with this game. Oh don't get me wrong my K/D ratio did go up and I was always a couple kills above deaths but this past month of playing has been pure hell. I'm at like .25 ratio. I can't even stand ground with basic gear and an AR now without losing the showdown. It takes so much longer to kill guys, the guys that used to get the hell out of the way will just move from left to right a little because they know they are going to deplete my energy way before I land 4 consecutive rounds at their feet because if not they can gain enough health back to last even an additional MD round. Their used to be a lot more players with MDs and they are all but disappearing from the battlefield. No, not the player, they are switching over to a weapon that is actually enjoyable, fun because they can kill people too now. Something is very wrong with this weapon now, if you want to make it obsolete, delete it from the game. My frustration is that I committed to it from the get go and in the middle of me spending all this SP the weapon was put on the weapons of antiquity list or modern weapons of inferior slaying ability list. Either way I haven't enjoyed playing the game much lately, sucks because when I gave in a couple times, some of my more recent fun games were with starter ARs. So yes I've got the daily bonus like day 50 something is how freaking much I been playing, before was on the PS3 like once or twice a week, and sad to say looks like this game and the ps3 will be put on the back burner like the old days and my small to some but proud and modest daily bonus I feel will soon come to an end. Happy playing I still think it's a great game just not if you want to have as much fun as other guys and their weapons if you are the 1% using the MDs. The mass driver should rock dudes like a pile driver or as dangerous as a getaway driver not a miss daisy driver or omg frizzy hair go get the blow dryer. Haha. OK laters. |

I see lots of Mass Drivers in-game. More ARs and ScRs than anything else. Mass Drivers are very common -- in my observation -- nonetheless. |

Maybe I'm just landing the wrong battles, still see them, but used to be a lot more from the battles I've played. Could and makes sense others have other experiences. But still I've gotten so much better and methodical about my gameplay and I'm dying far more than I was. Maybe its just me and I should just go with the weapons that get me the kills I want, but the mass driver used to be so much fun, I still my **** rocked but nothing like now. |

Mass Drivers don't benefit from aim-assist and TTK is so short since 1.4, a militia AR can wreck you before the first slow moving grenade finds its target. Everyone stacking armor plates doesn't really help either since the MD took a damage nerf, all the way back in 1.0 Uprising. |

Their rare cause they are a bit situational.
Enemy Uphill? Hmm, little issue. Enemy far? He'll dodge it before it gets there. Enemy close? Don't blow your legs off kid. Do you suck at aiming? You don't have any help this time. You like breach weapons(If you do, your insane. They just suck so much)? Well, you lost a fair bit of radius.
So yeah, not everybody can use it, therefore less people use it, therefore it's a little rare.

I'm still running my MD, it's the only weapon I'm specced in to.
While it could use an ammo capacity buff, the weapon itself is still fine.
The problem is that the MD isn't competitive with the AR or SR anymore due to Auto Aim. The AR was always pretty damned over powered, and in the hands of a skilled user meant you were dead shortly after being spotted. The addition of Auto Aim now grants that ability to every player in the game, skilled or not.
There are less MD players because they are switching to the over powered flavor of the month. |

Haha, something compelled me to use my exo with 2 shield extenders, single enh dmg mod, and cardiac/cpu Holy hell i'm gifted with it. 31/5 using it for the first time in a month.
And dont blame the MD, i've always been good. In black-ops i would use the underbarrel Gl to snipe, even landing direct hits at range.
I'm just that able to hit that -tiny- set of stairs you're standing on, and blast you to bits, is there something not worning as intended there? |

Mass Drivers are VERY situational weapons.
I once went something like 26/6 with a mass driver fitting that cost me 19k using a std mass driver. I did so well because I was able to shoot down into a pit of chaos with a mass driver and flux grenades.
If I was the one down in that pit, the madd driver would have been useless.
Just the other day I played a match where almost HALF of the players were using mass drivers. Literally explosions everywhere because of how many corners, walls, and small areas with lots of players to shoot.
1 on 1, the mass driver is only good if you can get the advantage on the enemy (use a grenade to suprise them and deal initial damage, hit around a corner, use cover and the arc trajectory to your advantage). In a group of allies, or against a group of enemies, you are so much more effective because the enemy isn't focused on you, which means you can get more shots in. ______________________________
As for your question...Cosgar answered it pretty well.
Basically 1.4 increased hit detection, and also increased armor plate amounts. This meant that while every other weapon increased damage amount and reduced the TTK, mass drivers now actually take more shots, and more damage to kill players.
So while they were much more effective before 1.4, they balanced out well with the update. The only problem now is the Assault rifle's TTK, which according to Wolfman, seems to have been changed for 1.7 along with the new weapons. |

Problem is most try and run them like ARs. The arcing class of weapons equalizes the dualshock - KBM barrier by emphasizing your judgement and timing. Not everyone can use them effectively because you must pick your targets, lead your targets and get creative with the environment to hit around corners.
Course nothing compares to bombarding that one hallway that every raspberry keeps pushing through.
The breach are god awful, though I see shotty scouts moonlighting with breach MD from time to time. It fits their play style. |

Using a mass driver from a high point = raining hell.
I've gone up to proficiency 2 and haven't gone beyond that, so far my Freedom is still viable in PC.
With height to your advantage anything's possible. Get a dropship to a nice location and simply bombard the enemies from on high.
You might want to try learning to use flux grenades with the MD. These days what with the equipment spam and all, fluxes make all the difference when you wipe out a swath of triage hives that a bunch of enemies were just healing on, as well as their shields. Then drop a few shells into their faces and bye-bye.
Also, stick with a teammate. A random blueberry will suffice. You'll start noticing you'll be getting most of the kills because the MD may be called a support weapon by everyone else but when you pair a decent MD user with a prototype AR user, the MD gets the kills hands-down, unless shooting uphill.
I switched to AR for a few weeks to see how much Aim Assist helps, but the MD still feels like the right weapon in my hand. I find a lot of my kills are also coming from tracking enemies running at long distances, and leading my shells.
And if you're caught in a lose-lose situation, don't hesitate to run into the enemy and suicide. Deny them the +50 whenever possible. |

Yeah with the AR TTK being nonexistent now that hit detection works as intended people push for the AR.
There really is no reason to use anything besides AR, SCR and sometimes LSR. Hitscan weps rule the battlefield so hard, non hitscan weps became unviable even in their nieche. Youll be drowned in plasma once you peek out to place a round behind the corner.
The target tracking is bullshit, I tried running a cheapsuit today, 4 headshots with the SCP while strafing is not something that should happen considering its the first time ever I actually used a SCP in battle. |

There are A LOT of people who have done what you did and played this game longer and their are LEVEL 5 in mostly everything but they wear militia gear and use militia weapons so that's what you were having problems with. BELIEVE ME IT'S NOT YOU !!!! You have just been mislead by looking at the type of adversary that you BELIEVED you were facing and NOW YOU KNOW. IT HAPPENS A LOT and if someone is telling you different THEY ARE LYING and probably one of those who follows these methods. |

I saw the weapon changes post that wolfman made and thought ARs were getting a nerf. It seems though that now I double checked, they might actually be getting a slight buff... (which doesn't make any sense) |

I love the Mass Driver. It's one of those weapons where you play with it again, and the only thing you can think is, "Why the hell did I ever put this down?", and then someone gets the height advantage on you, and it all goes to hell. |

Somtimes though, you can still win even if the enemy is blindly looking for height advantages. For instance, they're higher than you, but they're up against a wall. Also, just making sure to hit boxes when you know they're going to hide behind it helps. Generally just make constant assessments of making the most of the enemy's surroundings. |

(which doesn't make any sense) It's been nerfed compared to the other rifles since they out range it, but for some reason they didn't take into account other non rifle weapons that need to dominate over it. If we ever get another respec, I'm tempted to just throw my MD SP into the combat rifle and give up. |

In a blob vs. blob fight it is amazing. Shieldless people grouped together get annihilated by it. When people are in a small room, it is highly effective. It's also a great way to take down scout. Other than that it fails in almost every other aspect, it has to small a clip and ammo capacity to be much of a frontline main weapon, and even with nanohives it's not very practical. Also if the enemy is on higher ground than you they are very hard to hit. I don't regret going proto into it though, it's a really cool weapon when it's in the optimal situation. The other 90% of the time I'd rather have a rifle, and I tend to die as much from suicide as I do the enemy when I wield it. (I armor tank)
The Ellecon's come from a long line of Gallente. Tarn chose Peace. Tallen chose war.

1. Can be dealt with, have done many times, inclines aren't nearly as much of an issue as people seem to believe. 2. Fair enough, if they're looking at you. 3. If you're good with distances you should be able to leave just enough space to stay out. 4. Good point. 5. They're fun, as long as you don't care too much.
Just saying.
