The ISK barrier is appropriately set to be honest. If you have to ask how much it costs, you can't afford it. But that's not a bad thing. Because this game allows people to bootstrap a corp to the highest levels if you have the patience. And by patience, I mean plan to spend at least three months just establishing a foundation before you buy your first clone pack if you're not bringing in vets.
By the time you get into PC - by which I mean you can afford the clone packs to sustain an assault on a district and take it and have the wherewithal to defend it 'long term' measured in weeks/months - you need to be in a spot where:
- your mean player SP is at a ~10mil minimum - you have at least one guy who understands WTF is going on and can FC a fight half competently - the above guy along with other competent guys in the corp has analyzed the roles you have, roles you need, recruited appropriately, and at least brainstormed doctrines around the above (or at the very least watch some vids and copycat the ****) - your members are on the same page about where the corporation is going and are willing to 'play the objective' and bounce back from defeats - you have solid squad-based play - your players have proto setups in their chosen role - your players understand what 'isk positive' means in pub matches, have stocked up PROTO fits and have an ISK reserve, and are willing/able to drop 10mil ISK at the drop of a hat to the corp wallet when you need to generate 200mil for attacks or ringer support or roll in BPOs at 100% tax rates for a week or two to generate startup ISK but at the same time are used to and unafraid of using and losing 10+ 150k ISK proto suits in a single battle - you are forward looking and adaptable enough to deal with the constantly changing gameplay environment that each patch brings
And most importantly...
- you have 15-20 players, every day, seven days a week, forever, all online at the same time each day as your chosen timer that meet the above requirements. Since this is a game, not the RL military, that means you need either an insanely dedicated group of 20 dudes in brolove with each other enough to tell their wife/kids/moms to **** off they have a PC battle ... every night, seven days a week, forever... or you need to get your 'paper' numbers up to something in the 30+ very active or 60+ sorta casual depending on the design of your corp.
Baring any major shifts from CCP (like, making a persistent battlefield or creating 6-man raid battles or some ****), the above requirements are going to stand for a while.
It's truly a pain in the ass.
The only way you will exist in PC with less than the above will be at the whim and pleasure of corps that DO have the above figured out. [Edit: And the above is actually pretty 'ok' ... no one has even started asking for Rent in this game and coming up under the wing of a larger corp can be a great idea.]
Luckily, FW is coming to fill the gap for smaller corps that want something more than pub matchs. Personally though, thinking back to Chromosome, some of the most fun times were back just grindin out pub matches without a care in the world trying out new things with new friends. So either sit back, relax, and enjoy... or get the **** to work. You've got a long road ahead of you and the ISK is the least of your concerns. GL |
