I've played this game for a few months now, and have noticed small things wrong, but nothing to drastic. I realize this game is still very much in its infancy, and I know there will be changes as we progress. But, there is one problem I feel the need to address. I have a few characters, one of them being a tanker. I've had to grind quite a few days into the game to get my tanks to a survivable state. With the hordes of AV grenades, turret installations, and default swarm launchers that come at you, it can be hard to keep your HAV rolling. That being said, after quite a bit of SP and ISK, I have a fairly decent HAV. Except against one foe. The 'Haywire' Wiyrkomi Swarm Launcher. An Aurum. Swarm Launcher. The sheer idea of being defeated by something someone PAID for, while I'm using something I slaved to get, is absolutely atrocious. It's essentially a pay to win scenario. Quite literally, every HAV I've lost in the past few weeks has been to that Swarm Launcher. I realize that this being a FTP game, that a profit must be made in some way, but this is mind blowing to me. As I've started to pay more attention, I realize this problem is everywhere. The FTP players are rolled over by people willing to throw cash at their screen! Not to mention this is just a bad business practice. "Oh, you gave us money, here's the best equipment in the game for half the work everyone else does for it." I could understand the SP boosters, and different skins for equipment, that's perfectly fine. At least work would still be put in to get the reward. I don't want to see free to pay players get screwed over so cash can be made. It's horrid. If it's that necessary to make a profit, make people pay to play. This isn't the way to go, it makes the DUST 514 community horrid. For instance, look at the "Top Sellers" in the Market. It is ALL Aurum equipment. That just shows how many people prefer to use Aurum over earning their equipment. All I ask is that how you balance the AUR and ISK equipment gets looked at again. I don't think anyone should have to spend cash to have fun in a free to play game. For example, TF2 is a free to play game, has options to purchase weapons, but is INCREDIBLY fun with or without doing so. Perhaps you can keep the Aurum system, but lessen the stats of equipment people get early? Otherwise, it is a broken, disgusting system for those that don't partake in it.

Vehicles are already confirmed to get a full rebalancing either on the 1.7 or 1.8 patch. Rumors are circulating that at least a partial respec for vehicles skills might come due to such drastic changes (see sticky notes on vehicles in General Discussion) but those rumors are not yet confirmed.
CCP wants to fully balance the vehicles but in stages to make sure they fix the mess they made. |

You know this has absolutely nothing to do with aurum and everything to do with AV balance.
Those aurum swarms are exactly the same as the proto swarms available for isk that you can get for just a bit more SP.
Any AV guy worth his salt doesn't even need proto swarms to solo most tanks at the moment any - it really only takes a few well placed hits from the adv with a couple of damage mods. |

As I use tanks a lot and can agree with you on some points because I have written about some of the things that you speak of , the Wiyrkomi name from what I can tell , have some of the strongest and best products on this game. Sometimes you can tell what kind of swarm by how many that they launch in a volley so try to look at that ( if you can see it because rendering is so bad most of the time ) and if you see six coming at you then just turn around and leave. There is nothing wrong with regrouping. It saves you and you a tank. Also your core skills will give you some breathing room as well.
They might not give you as much as your suits but that two or three percent is more than you had before and it should be more because it is so hard and you do need a massive amount of skill points when dealing with vehicles , so hopefully they will change that too. THEY NEED TO.
I have some to because I became tired of the same thing. Buy you some. |

The nice thing about the Auram weapons though is that you can still only use 1 level above your skill, i.e. no skill, you can only use basic. So those swarmers may have killed you anyway with their advanced level, ISK purchased weapons...maybe not... |

I know your hurting but I actually dont feel like Auram users have any actual advantage. yes they skipped some training. But their weapons do the same thing that mine can do. I only use advanced and standard gear for the most part. And I still beat proto weapons often enough.
I dont pay for anything but I do just fine I think. Usualy go positive kdr and only die maybe 3-4 times unless my team gets stomped.
I do appreciate though that losing those tanks really hurt. |

You should also study the player board and the players that you are facing. Learn the corporations and what their tendencies are so it can help you to understand when and where you can deploy a tank and against who.
Study the tempo of the fight instead of just deploying tanks at random and look at the kill board as it flashes and what weapons are used ( even though they can be changed out at a Storage Depo ) so you can save yourself some trouble as well.
Some thing you can do when you want to , but you have to have the right troops backing you up to do so. Know your team and your adversaries as well as their corporations. I had to learn this the hard way. I know that there are thousands of players but if you play enough you will see what I mean and DON'T UNDERESTIMATE ANYONE OR ANY SITUATION. |
