It's pretty much a baby AR.
Just having shorter range.
I'm contemplating putting 2 comp sidearm mods on an ADV Gallente frame for AV or just running primary SMG.
I'm think primarying SMG for the lulz.
I made a dual SMG fit for the lulz and I gotta say that it's a deadly fit. For mine I have a six kin as primary and a standard as a secondary, this is on a dragonfly assault suit so I could only fit a basic as a secondary. 2 of my corpmates and I decided to run proto SMGs as primaries for the lulz, and we ended up having a combined score of 109 kills, 19 deaths, and about 7000 WP. |

Help me please, thanks
I use a weapon that completes your damage types or complements your weapon range.
Assault scrambler Rifle : Flaylock Pistol Scrambler Rifle : SMG Laser Rifle : Assault SMG
As you can see while using the ASCR that is a FAST RoF weapon with good range i complement it with a low RoF for CQ Side arm. The Scrambler Rifle , Being a Semi Auto weapon (in my case Low RoF) with long ranged capacity, i use a FAST RoF weapon for CQ. The LAser Rifle is a Long range ONLY weapon,so for MID RANGE and CQ the obvious option for me is the Assault SMG, that covers mid range decently and CQ effectivley. The SCrambler weapon i Double weild it in my ''gunman'' stealth logi or Use it Paired with my Asault Mass Driver ( For obvious reasons XD)
Now i must admit my Scrambler rifle is being paired ith Flaylock ATM but its more of a Damage bonus thing (SCR 120% Shields FP 120% Armor)
So basically , your side arm depends entirely on your MAIN weapon...

But Sidearms are meant to be finishers, and the Flaylock is good at that, I use it on some of my Shotty fits because its more reliable than my Primary to finish off an enemy.
I'm being honest now, if there was one thing I'd buff on the Flaylock, its the direct. Thats it.
There is no point in going for direct with the Flaylock. Its harder, and its easier to completely miss. |

Of course its only useful when the enemy has little health. Its a sidearm. Its what they're made for. The scrambler pistol can take down brick tanked protosuits with full health, same for the smg and even nova knives. The flaylock would have to reload, posibley more than once. |

I use the 209 SMG, level 5 proficiency. It is noticeably better than the standard and 512 in my experience. I use it on a Minmatar advanced scout. I tried the pistols and got them to level 3, but as others have stated, it takes a lot of skill for headshots. I remember losing a 1v1 against another scout. He did a bunny hop and one shot me in the head with the pistol. That was right after losing a 1v1 against Roner General who evaded my SMG shots after I had got him down to a sliver of armor and also one shot me with a shotgun. I dropped the controller and said THAT is just awesome. Super skill. Soooo, the SMG is better for starting out. Much respect to anyone who can play scout/pistol and kick ass. That is serious hard mode. |

95% of the time, I'm a Gallente Scout with two Submachine Guns. Proficiency IV, Sharpshooter V. Able to spray people down in close quarters hipfire, and shreds people when aiming down sights at longer ranges (the ADS turn speed is too slow in my opinion). I personally prefer Normal variants over Assault, and I am absolutely horrible with Breach. |

SIdearms are Mean to be , well side arms.Smaller weapons that you use to support your main.
Yes , most of the time they are finishers.
BUT DOESNT MEAN they can do the whole job by themselves. ;)

Do you like bad ass headshots? or do you like a mobile armor smelting machine? Both guns are great for finishing an enemy off if you spec into them, but I would say an SMG is better for close combat then a pistol, however the fitting requirements might change your mind too. Really just play with whatever your more comfortable with and you'll do fine regardless. |
