General Sideboob wrote:All CCP needs to do is block proto gear from public matches the same way they block certain types of ships from high sec space. There is already a precedent for it in Eve, so it really kind of makes sense.
In Eve, lesser players can engage in combat in High sec. without having to worry about the other fleet bringing in a Titan or certain types of high end equipment.
Why not simply follow the same plan for Dust?
Personally, I fail to see any down side to this, but what do you think?
As someone who actually playes EVE (heresy, I know), the only reason capital-grade warships are not permitted in high-sec is because 0.5-1.0 security space prohibits cynosaural fields from being activated. Capital warships are only able to use jump drives, and thus require a cyno to travel.
This still doesn't stop people from suicide ganking and engaging in other similarly "I ruin other people's fun for my fun" activities.
It's also important to note that capital and supercapital ships (which require cynos) are the only ones not permitted in highsec areas. It's also worth noting that random unprovoked aggression is punished in highsec by the NPC police CONCORD. Your idea is, unfortunately, terminally flawed. |

General Sideboob wrote:Thank you for proving my point. +1 for you. Certain high-end gear is not allowed in high sec. The reason for that is because it would ruin the game. Currently, the Dust experience is being ruined due to high-end gear being used on low-end players. Hmmmmmm. I wonder what we could do about it.
Why then don't we simply implement the same policy for Dust?
THE POINT<- ................... YOUR HEAD<-
I think it's quite obvious you rather missed the point of what I was saying. Mechanically speaking only certain types of ships are not permitted in highsec. This does not prevent people from pulling extremely-high-end Tech 2 or Pirate-faction battleships out in highsec (it's actually common for mission runners (IE, pure PVE'ers) to use such boats). There are very, very, few modules which are not permitted in high, and even lowsec regions (bomb launchers and deployable warp disruptors are pretty much it).
You can still, if you have scads of money, sidle up a 2billion+ ISK pirate battleship that very easily whips the dog out of a Tech 1 BS, in the middle of a group of mining barges, and KILL ALL THE THINGS. CONCORD will then come and blap your shiny battleship.
Your idea has 2 flaws, as I see it.
1. You have no understanding of mechanical limitations in EVE, and thus make a very poor parallel. 2. You suggest no mechanics for how this might be accomplished.
The big reason people don't run amok in incredibly expensive, durable, and killy ships in highsec killing every single noob there is is because CONCORD will blap them every time they do. That's called a "CONSEQUENCE". If people run around griefing noobs, they pretty much get called on it, and a very real penalty is inflicted upon them for doing so.
DUST not only doesn't have a basis for such a mechanic, but I can see no method by which it might be implemented. Because of the type of game DUST is, that of a primary lobby-based shooter, the kind of mechanic that would prevent protosquads from, well, protostomping, would either be needlessly convoluted, and flat-out useless. |

Funkmaster Whale wrote:Proto gear doesn't magically make you a 10+ KD player. You're gonna get stomped by people who are better and more organized than you regardless of what gear they're wearing. The matchmaking simply needs to do a better job of pitting squads vs. squads and solo players vs. solo players.
^THIS. This guy gets it. If we have the matchmaking match more squad vs squad and solo vs solo, then pubstomping will be reduced SO MUCH.
I think the only flaw in this is that the current playercounts make it somewhat difficult for the MM to consistently (or, well, ever) put together a match that's 99% squads of dudes on both sides. I've been in a few "all random, all the time" matches since the new MM came out, but it gets more and more rare every time I play.
Half of that is probably the squad finder though. |
