don't use high ground.
it's a rule of mine, to never go up on high ground, and every single time I break that rule I'm dead within 15 seconds.
sniping from high ground is the quickest way to end up dead lol....
for fits, you need damage mods, and maxed proficiency, and I suggest boosting your tanking skills as high as possible, it won't be all that useful but any time you survive a SR shot is a chance to save a suit and locate the sniper shooting you.
if you are going to be a decent sniper you'll need to learn to ground snipe and if you are ground sniping you'll inevitably need to learn to use your side arm, so get skill points in a side arm, I choose the flay lock because it uses very little cpu and pg. |

yes and no, proto sniping is fun for those that like it, and they have a lot of uses, but in the majority of games your team is going to be flooded with bad snipers making your role diminished, and on the majority of maps sniping is out right designed against though you can work around it.
sniping has the added advantage of being a lone wolf role, though we operate very well in squads if you want, so if you are a player that likes to solo sometimes sniping mains are good.
I have a proto caldari assault sniping fit which is my main sp investment, and a proto AR gal logi ground fit. I use the ground fit for the tight close quarter battles of the new maps, and my sniping fits for a lot of the older maps.
so to answer your question sniping mains are worth it but only if you can make it worth it. |

charged rifle has the shortest scope and highest burst damage output of any sniper rifle as such it's a suitable marksmen rifle for ground sniping and short-long range engagements.
tactical rifles are extreme long range rifles with rapid fire advantages which make them ideal counter sniping tools especially for head glitchers. the rapid fire nature of these rifles means in a pinch you can use them as a marksmen rifle but the charged rifle is generally easier because of it's short range scope.
ishukone rifles and other standard rifles have average dps good range and decent clips as such it's a solid rifle but really has no strong points or tactical advantages as such I never see any reason to use it over the other rifles. |

Dont wear the white suit, it makes you more visible to a counter sniper and the c/1 series basic frame is a better alternative since you wont need the assault suits bonus much anyway and it has one more high slot Dont park your ass on top of a ridge, your silhouette is highly visible to a counter sniper Stack those damage mods but thats pretty basic knowledge For your low slots its really all your own preference and if the dampeners work for you keep them, personally I stick some armor plates on my sniping suit to give me a buffer against being counter sniped and in case someone happens to close the gap and engage I wont get shredded instantly relying on the suits base HP
The proto rifles are definitely worth it and so are the later skills to raise your damage and such, dont let cost bother you since if you arent setting up in the overused spots people know youll be fine |

I am mostly an assault rifle guy but I have been trying out sniping lately (I am far from good). My sniping setup uses the Gallente assault suit with the hybrid weapon CPU/PG bonus (which applies to sniper rifles). I go with 3 light complex damage mods, 3 enhanced plates and a complex armour repairer.
How to shoot ... what gun to use ... what terrain etc - probably questions for people better then me. |

sniper finds me..."pop, pop! rawr he's still alive darmit!"... Then I find the sniper...
I hate the sp sink of the commando but I love running around with 2 light weapons with proficiency. If fatty sniping gives you lulz, think about the commando. I'll take the risk of running around with a proto charge on a commando. If I get smacked once or twice then its just not a good round for me and I move to a cheap suit doing something else. At the end of the day its just a game so i play for max enjoyment |

I agree with most of this.
I'd modify the statements about high ground, though. Don't ALWAYS go to high ground. Neither avoid or commit to high ground.
Use whatever ground you are on. Ground sniping is very effective.
Move around all the time.
Don't run along ridgelines.
Hack when you can.
Get on comms and help your team by scouting.
You don't need a super-proto rig to snipe well. Get your sniper proficiency up to 5. Get complex damage mods and get a suit that can carry at least 3. Get a good sidearm and skill it up. Then work on dampeners and suits with low dB. Get your core skills at least to 3.
Then, as the folks at Nike say, just do it.

Amarr logi ak
high -light damage mod 10% -light damage mod 10% -light damage mod 10%
low -Complex Armour plates X 3 -pg upgrade
equiptment -scanner -compact nanohive -KR/17 nano hive
sidearm -submachinegun
light weapon
You can use any, they all have different benifits -ishokune-not the strongest but 5 shots in each clip makes this my day to day -charge-most powerfull by far takes longer sto get each shot off, exspensive as hell -Kallakatta- only 3 shots in each clip-but shoots fastest
I would have to say that if you are not at this level in skill ponts..get the n-11 sniper rifle out..its the gun i grinded most of my SP with looking back
With this suit you place the compact nanohie inside the bubble of the KD/R and it will regen you at 70 hp per pulse..+ you get 5 hp per second from amarr racial bounus.. 600++ armour sits in the bubble and shoots...adjust your gun based on where you plan to position your self.always angle yourself in the right way. If you get hit remain calm find them and kill them...they will 78% of the time have only advanced rifle and will have to hit you 3 times to kill you...if they have to reload at anytime you would regen most of your hp ..basic idea |

Ditch the profile dampener - you will mostly be out of range of scanners and the slot is better off with an armour plate as your highs will be full of damage mods and you need a little tank to prevent OHK from militia sniper rifles. Keep low and or keep moving between shots and while reloading if you are up high. Operation skills keep the sway down and at lvl 5 you can shoot standing with a little practice. I personally love the charge sniper as it kills most instantly with 3 damage mods and some proficiency skills. Lead your shots a little if the victim is running across your field of view. For closer range targets line up your weapon as much as possible before scoping in. Shoot from cover and expose only as much of yourself as necessary. Don't put nanohives next to your position as they are much easier to spot. Don't be afraid of getting into the opponents end of the field as you can often counter snipe with less risk of being spotted as most snipers will generally face the enemy mcc. Always kill the logi before the heavy if you spot a pair. Leave heavies if there are other targets as they take too long. Check your tacnet radar! Help your team with battlefield information - ask them to call out any sniper shots so you can counter. Skill into SMG. Lastly remember your team does not always need a(nother) sniper - if your not required change roles.

To be honest, I wouldn't even bother with the damage mods until you can fit at least two of the complex mods on there; the extra damage gained with the lower levels just isn't worth giving up shields for.
I have two fits, both with the proto Gallente Basic suit: 1. Kaalakiota SR (for the better zoom/RoF) 3 Complex damage mods 4 low slots are a combination of basic reactive plates and maybe one basic armor plate nanohive to resupply my ammo
2. Same stuff, but swap a Charge SR for the Kaalakiota and Remote Explosives for the nanohive. I use this suit in conjunction with a scout suit to set my REs around a node, then use the Sniper setup to cover the node and trigger the RE if needed.
With either suit, my main job is to find a nice vantage point from where I can defend a node from hacking. |

Check in the rookie section for good sniper guides by Fox Gaden and others.
The guides pretty much cover the basic tactics of real world sniping.
- Do not get in obvious places that snipers usually use on maps.
- Use high ground if you can be protected on at least one side, the ideal is two to three sides to avoid sniper fire from a direction you are not monitoring at the moment. There are some juicy spots though that although exposed are farther away and give a view of the whole field.
- Cover a certain direction or area at a time rather than an area that covers too much. Again though there are juicy exceptions.
- do not listen to the detractors that say the redline is useless. Anywhere on the map is viable depending on the circumstances. Just be where you can deal with the important activity.
- There is long range military style sniping and shorter range law enforcement style marksman or sharpshooter sniping.
- Get a suit and weapon that fits that style better. Kaalakiota is good for fast two shotting for less damage but quicker follow up shot, Ishikone is good for more damage on one shot but slow followup shot but you get 5 shots before reload. Charge can one shot better but I can't stand having to hold the charge and trying to time the shot due to a bit of lag on the shot.
- i prefer to go Tac AR for CQ sharpshooter style sniping.
- sniping farther away gives you more targets in a smaller area of concentration but less likely to oneshot. However, you want to push enemies back, corral them, area denial not just kill. Also, taking several enemies to armor when they are incoming to blueberry positions makes it easier for blues to take them down. |
