Something on my mind as of late has been the reason sniper rifle's have no built in variable scope. Not to increase the zoom of said rifle per se but to enhance what is in its sight. There doesn't need to be an increase to the range of zoom for the weapon just the mechanic added in.
Essentially as you're zoomed into the scope the image would render accordingly. This might also help the current issue of draw distance not showing structures that targets are behind, next to, etc. it could even change mattering what weapon and variant your using. Even having an added skill to spec into, maybe an additional one for the click number (max 3).
But that's just my 2 ISK, what do you guys think. An please as always no rock throwing (just because its a sniping thread), I bruise easily.

tacticals have high zoom and the thale has really high zoom even then with my charge with the worst zoom it's not really that hard to snipe long distance you just need to time your shots |

Oh wait wait , let me add this before there is any confusion. I've been a sniper for a "While" I land shots consistently no prob with gun game. This was just a lamentation on a proposed mechanic is all. One can dream right.

So you want zoom but dont want zoom? I dont get what you are trying to get at since a variable zoom scope has a pretty clear meaning and you describe something that functions exactly that way but say it shouldnt actually zoom in |

Yes in other games variable scopes affect the zoom function, however generally you can see farther the more you zoom in. But here I was thinking of using the same mechanic but only enhancing what we were looking at. In short since draw distance is set for each rifle we just get a clearer view of what said gun can already see. Hope that explains it.

An additional skill for zoom would be great!
here's an alternative: add a new module that allows you to zoom (or automatically increases zoom). This way mercs can choose to trade in additional zoom vs. e.g. damage modifiers. This way players can tailor their sniper more to their needs, while not upsetting the balance too much. |

It sounds like splitting hairs to me really between zoom and enhance when its the same thing All I can think that you are getting at is zoom without increasing the draw distance |

I like this idea a lot, although lets make it a little more dynamic. Say for instance you can pull up the mods on your equipment wheel and change the zoom feature on the fly, similar to vehicle mods. The replacement of damage mods may help with balance to some aspect but may inevitably limit or be in favor of certain suits i.e. Logistics vs Scouts.
