I know that BPOs are gone forever, but I still put it into the title. Why?
Because I think that it is totally sick to spend 100 dollars on items that have 400 runs only. Even if it is so many of them. I heard a lot of people say "I only bought the Merc pack for the BPO", but now that those aren't around anymore ... I think the W.A.R. packs suck because the only thing that was worth so much money were BPOs :/

I get more value out of my toilet paper cause at least it is a physical object. Never understood how someone could spend real life money on digital objects that are consumable. At least BPOs lasted forever, and Boosters add to your SP which doesn't go away. The only two things worth spending money on in this game. 99% of BPOs got removed so the list of things worth spending money on in this game just got a whole lot shorter. |

They figured out you will have to keep buying the packs if its limited run. What they haven't figured out though is that nobody wants the garbage theyre offering. They will trick noobs into buying it and then once those noobs figure out they just spent $100 on garbage they will leave the game and never come back. But this should come as no surprise since CCP has always built their business model on the backs of noobs. They don't care about older players, as long as they can keep enough new people coming to the game it doesn't matter. |

It depend if those items are all no-skill or the equivalent of current 'Neo' items. If they're no-skill and pre-fitted with proto modules, this could actually be a pretty good idea. i.e. Newb buys a W.A.R. Hoplon kit, plays ~10 matches as a proto cal assault and 10 as a proto min logi, and THEN they have to grind their way up. That could seriously increase retention. If they're the equivalent of current Neo items, these packs are the biggest ripoff ever. |

This mentality has to be our equivalent of EVEs "what I mine is free." Just cause you have a proto suit doesn't mean you will do better. Better gear will not make up for a lack of skill. Noobs will still go 0/12 in these proto suits even if they are no skill. Then they will say "if this is the best gear in the game and Im still doing this bad then I have no chance" and then they will leave. |

Uhh, gear completely makes up for a certain level of skill deficit in this game. In a head-to-head AR fight, a tanked-out protosuit has about 2x the TTK of a militia suit, meaning the protobear can miss half their shots and still win. I'm sick of people saying proto gear is no substitute for skill. Yes, if you put a dog in front of a controller and give it a protosuit, it will lose, but if the person is proto gear is even mildly competent and rolling tanked-out like they should be, it's a massive advantage and guarantees a win in many situations purely by the numbers. |

The other quasi-tangible, was the boosters. They have a lasting effect once used. The cost of the pack, was like getting aurum + "free" boosters. Previously, I'd use the aurum, to buy boosters and BPOs. Now, if I were to spend money again, I'd use it as a double-or-nothing booster acquisition thing. But they'd better offer an "all booster, no trash" version, or I dont see myself buying another one any time soon.

When I started playing EVE in 2008 most of the player base was 2006 to 2008 character age. Look at the character ages now? Mostly mid to late 2009 to present. CCP consistently pushes away its older player base. |

you have to take breaks from eve or it will become a job. the average character age goes down after winter expansions, and goes way up the month before a new expansion. |

You guys do realize that the Elite pack actually saves you 20$ if you were only buying the packs for boosters right? If you were buying a merc pack every month just for AUR for boosters, then you actually save 20$ over a six month period if you buy the elite pack. That's what they call value. The BPO's were just a little extra boost. I mean...... its all standard gear anyway. What you should really be buying those larger packs for is the Massive amounts of AUR and boosters that come with it.
If you don't spend the AUR on passive boosters you get even more out of the pack over time. (because active boosters net you more SP per week then a passive booster nets you per month). I mean come on people..... These packs have been out for months, if your upset now that they changed them then your just doing it wrong......

What kind of time frame do you think you can expect to be able to sell aurum items for isk, or aurum for that matter? I could be wrong, but I don't think even Eve players can sell their aurum items on the market yet. Maybe you can contract or trade it, not sure.
Which brings up the lack of trading/contracts available in this game. Hey CCP, WTF?!?! |

"should" is a very loaded word. A load that misses its target, as far as I'm concerned.
I run scout. I used the aurum to buy a valor scout suit, and assorted BPO's, along with the ones the packs already came with.
I now have free infinite fits of the following:
1. An uplink dropper that is invisible to everything but highest proto scanner, thanks to damper BPOs 2. An objective runner/hacker, that can beat out most things but a high level minmatar, thanks to kinetic BPOs. 3. A highly mobile, self-reparing 400hp ninja, thanks to armor BPOs
And oh by the way my choice of mix-n-match armaments, out of free fits of AR pistol SMG sniper-rifle (ph33r my always-moving, invisible sniper ;)
yeah, these arent proto level. but so what? the main limits on them, are my lousy stick skills, rather than lack of 'leetness in the gear :-}
And the freeness keeps me in the green to churn out the odd vehicle or two practically every match, without hurting (They're also fitted with BPOs! )

They need to add a BPO Jet Pack and DLC Skins. I believe The Unreal engine can do a grapple hook too. So, that would be cool. $10 each and $1.99 for skins. Basically, think CCP that the average consumer will be up for spending around $25-$50 max for this game and think of ways to get that money. Me spending $99.99 on this game is not gonna happen, but I do have an Exile AR BPO that was $10 with 2k Aurum added in the bundle.
So, that leaves me $15 More that I would feel comfortable spending. Is there even DUST avatars? Those should be free as it would promote the game to Friends List folks scrolling about. |

This is the Economist at CCP getting ready to do some work.. Take it as a step towards having an active DUST market... Sadly he doesn't like BPO's in DUST. Maybe when we get a market you can use all the Isk you saved while running the Aurum fit's from Merc pack to buy the BPO's off market.

I think the W.A.R. packs suck because the only thing that was worth so much money were BPOs :/ http://blog.us.playstation.com/2013/10/08/october-means-war-for-dust-514/What do you guys think? Proto gear is little advantage against |skilled| player!
In a fight between a noob in militia and a noob in Proto. Proto noob will win.
A skilled veteran in militia gear will wipe @$$ with the proto scrub.
The main reason skilled people want proto is to have leverage against other skilled people. I.E: In a fight between a skilled vet in militia and a skilled vet in Proto, the proto player has a HUGE advantage against the other player. The advantage is not from the equipment itself, it is because the player has the knowledge and finesse to apply it effectively. |

I like the idea of BPO's even if they are militia grade, but CCP isn't making this game for FREE. |

Things people would actually pay for that wont make this game p2w
- Skins for weapons/vehicles/dropsuits - Customizeable MQs - Faction change - Name change (with a log of it in your history) - Respec
Its not that hard to invest some time to things that would be quite easy to do and there would be a ton of people that would take advantage of it. Hell, sell the skins in small packs that are 5-10 a piece and the hoarders would buy every one of them.
The old merc packs were good because they carried the one thing that everyone wanted each month and that was the active booster and enough AUR for a passive to go along with it. I would possibly pay for any of the stuff listed above but see zero reason to buy anything in the packs they are selling. |

They dont accurately describe the suits involved. The psblog site describes the suits as suits with the C-I suffixes for standard suits, but the announcement on the forums describes them as the advanced suits with the C-I/series suffix. So which are they? If they are special advance suits with complex mods they could be worth it too scrubs, noobs, blueberries. But they are still too darn expensive and they need a kit with cheaper boosters. |

After I got 14 mill sp, I have little interest in buying boosters and even less interest in the bpc aur items. The only thing that may perk my interest to buy anything else are bpo's or custom colors. When I was told that bpo's will no longer be in the market place, I spent all my remaining aur on the bpo's that I didn't have and most likely will never use, because they had more worth to me than a booster.
CCP got a lot of money from me since the beginning, but now i'm in the bum phase. Just using their resources and being a corpse to fill a match slot, which could be a problem if there are a lot of ppl in the bum phase and little incoming new players. |
