Personaly I'd hate to see a free BPO of DS, but perhaps 5 to 10 free like the LAV. It would give new players a chance to find out if it's something they want to pursue or not. I'd also hate to see any changes to make piloting easier as some threads have suggested; it should be a tough skill to master, that's half of what makes it rewarding.
As to price though...both ISK and SP are incredibly steep for something that has so few ways to earn points. Let's look at the ways we can earn points as a transport pilot.
1) Carry troops and deliver them safely and hope they live the full minute and earn some WP. A medic only has to revive you, not wait til you earn points. A logi can heal you and walk away. Any drop uplink just requires you spawn, same-ish with nano-hives.
2) Gunners kill targets. Harder to accomplish enough kills to be worth it without an ADS. Targets with AV have a better chance against us because all they have to do is duck behind a pillar for a minute so their shields can recharge from the laughable amount of damage you were able to do with the one gun you could probably bring to bear. Where's MY **** forge gun.
3) Scanning and then hoping someone kills those targets you just lit. The amount of risk we have to incur to get close enough to positions to use these versus the reward is ludicrous! By comparison a militia fit with a scanner can do the same job, get the same reward, and if he dies he's only out 8 or 9k ISK.
If there are others I'm missing, please post them. Bottom line: 1) Make it a high flat rate reward for the drop off. 2) Improve the targeting of missile turrets or dramatically increase splash damage (I mean really, if I strafe with my AR the rounds still go where the crosshairs were, missiles curve apparently) 3) Shorten the range on FGs. Don't touch damage, a FG should still be able to kill you in a tight LZ. 4) Increase the range on airborne scanners, I should be able to spot the swarm launcher if he's close enough for a lock! I apologize for the wall, it comes close to expressing my frustration. |

I think changing the aiming or barrel wander for the forge isn't the right way to go about it. I think the dropship should get a medium grid powermodule that either deflects swarm damage 95%, or forge damage 95% for 15 seconds with a 2 minutes cd.
Just out of curiosity how will this module help me against FG when I only discover he's there as I'm reading what killed me? This would only be useful against truly bad FG users who give away their presence with wild shots. I don't have any skills in Heavy or FG and I can shoot down a DS. |

all I can do is leave.. stop playing. and hope that the fact CCP would rather ignore me than post one word on my thread to stop me quitting is enough to sway the community to realise how cold hearted ccp are.
It's not about being cold-hearted, don't you think they might even feel bad knowing how many people are disappointed in a game they've invested thousands of hours and probably many sleepless nights trying to get right? But simple economics dictate that you're a statistic as an earlier poster pointed out. And emotionally investing yourself in every one of the thousands of players is a quick route to a nervous breakdown.
I think more of us need to acknowledge that we're playing a FREE GAME! If we choose to invest real money in it, that's on us, not CCP. If we invest our heart and intellect, well in my case that's because of the community. We have a vibrant, player driven community, where the training and guides are provided by those with experience. A community that has a real say in how the game-world develops, CCP DOES LISTEN, they just can't implement every great idea or needed fix. Think of this like a municipality, where resources are finite, but the needs of the constituents are many. They'd love to give us everything we want, they could charge for the game if it were that good!
DUST 514 is a community more than a battle arena, and if you give up on it, you're giving up on the community, not CCP. I for one would rather have you here trying to make this a better universe than have you throw away all that hard earned knowledge and experience. I commiserate with your frustration, but I can not condone the reason for your choice. |
