I've made a couple of idea on how Dropships could be rebalanced (This character being skilled into every type of dropship, I have plenty of time to think about it while respawning...).
1) Forge Guns. Fudge the Forge Guns. Keep them, but fudge them. I'd be happy with anything, as long as you made it so Forges can't destroy us. They would be able to knock us around, for sure, but maybe even the prototype does just over 100 damage? Those are the only things really keeping us from doing anything with dropships. One forge guns enters play, it's basically telling every dropship to break itself, and save itself from a painful demise.
2) Free Dropships. Having completely free dropships BPOs when you start the game will urge newer players and even vets to take out a dropship and have a blast in the sky, without needing to worry about ISK price. If I died in a free Gorgon, I wouldn't even care, I'd just enjoy being able to fly without my wallet being [killed]. Besides, it's pretty hard to murder taxi in a flying vehicle, and if you're accurate enough to ram a dropship into an infantry, you deserve that kill.
3) Price reduction. At the moment, dropships Risk/Reward is way more balanced towards Risk. The new WP bonuses in 1.5 sort of fixed it, but they still cost to much to make back in one match, making pilot-specific characters terribly scarce. Because like I said, one Forge Gun joins the match and every ship ever is obliterated.
That's all I can think of off the top of my head, but these changes will do a lot towards balancing Dropships, and stuff. |

Think you misunderstood me, mate. I said 100 damage to DROPSHIPS. Half the battle with Forge Gun VS Dropship is the fact that one shot can knock you into a building, or the ground, or even another dropship. I can understand that you thought I meant 100 damage to ALL vehicles, but yea. I meant just to derpships. :P
I'm actually a fan of the Forge Gun. The fact that it hits Infantry as hard as it hits tanks is a little iffy, but balanced out by the low splash (That Assault Forge Gun though... So much hate). It's a precision weapon that hits like a truck and has a charge-up time. I'm always a fan of precision weapons. Always. Plasma Cannons especially. |

I'm sorry. :(
And to Levi; I love CCP, I really do. I've been playing this game for almost a full year, and I'd say I'm one of the more skilled players out there. Not as good as some of the more famous names, but when it comes to spreadsheet work and statistics, I'm your guy. Plus, I almost go positive in a standard scout suit with a MLT AR. Get on my level.
Anyways, like I said, I love CCP, and I love what they do, but the fact is that they honestly couldn't care less about one customer. If you want to lost faith in this game that WILL get better (Thanks to the new EP...), then you probably should just go anyways. I know a lot of people are fed up, but you just need to be patient. With this next patch, the game will get better (An unfitted Grimsnes is as tanky as a super-buffed Prometheus, but it's faster and has more passenger slots). So I would hold on just a little bit, until you see what the new vehicles are like, because I have a good feeling about it.
Back to my point, because I keep on getting sidetracked by myself: They have a successful PC MMO with however many thousands of players each paying 15$ per month. This game is basically an experiment for console gaming. But I'm sure they're working hard and getting things done. Just the fact that they pulled out the vehicle buffs and saved them for 1.6 means that at least one team is thinking "You know, let's get more play-testing done before we get this out, and work out the kinks". I don't know about other people, but I honestly would've liked them to have moved it anyways.
TL;DR: There is no TL;DR, read all of my post. >:( |

I'm going to have to agree with Meeko Fent here.
Get a crap fit, and build up your wallet while you wait to be buffed. Gallente Mediums, btw, are one of the better Mediums out there. I didn't look into the math and stuff, but I've heard from various people stating that the Gallente Medium is one of, if not the, best basic frames in the game currently. No idea why. Might be slot counts.
A part of the problem for vehicles, I've found, are that AI turrets are literally targeting you from across the map. I was sitting a little bit outside the city in one of the maps (The one with the rings), and I was getting shot at by a Railgun from the enemy redline, about 300ish meters away. I didn't see an exact number, I can only tell you it was really far. And I can promise you it was an AI turret, because that's what showed up on the killboard. |
