Duh-duh-duhnaaaaaah!
Okay, maybe I am just a really big fan of TF2, but I can't be the only one that thinks a Flamethrower would not be totally out of the question for this game. I'm thinking when new racial heavy suits come out, a Minmatar heavy frame should indeed be a Pyro/Torcher/whatever. Enter the weapon itself. Possibly usable by all heavies, but the Minny Fatman gets a bonus. Fairly high decrease in damage versus shields, but particularly deadly to armor. This baby should be able to melt suits and vehicle armors pretty good with the drawback of close range. You want to make a heavy able to do up-close point defense? Give him one of those. Besides, it sounds EXACTLY like something the Minmatar would make. He's scrounging around through his junk pile, finds a blow torch, a fuel container, and a lot of duct tape, and presto: Flamethrower. Plus, the idea of burning people alive sounds beautiful. |

the shotgun distance?
how much does damage trail off, and at what range.
how would a heavy consistently close in on someone to even be effective?
not dissing your idea. just asking questions about the mechanics.

I've brought this up before. I'm sure the mechanics wouldn't be that difficult. They already have fire damage on vehicles, how hard could it be to impliment something like that onto dropsuits? The closer you are to the flame the more damage you take and once you leave the fire it takes X amount of time until you stop receiving damage with a damage falloff. |

Range: Eh... 10 meters perhaps? Not quite as bad as shotgun.
Damage: vs shields - 70%, vs armor - 120-130% Because of the short range I wouldn't expect much damage trailing off. It's more of a high temperature stream.
As for effectiveness, I've seen plenty of maps where this sort of close-quarters devastation would work superbly. The new maps are very conducive to this sort of playstyle. Also, I've seen plenty of heavies rock the shotgun. Just toss in a Flux ahead of you and lay into the enemy if they're camping an objective. |
