Many people will have seen, been a victim of, or even exploited the ability this game has to spam an area with Grenades. Standing on a Nanohive, you can throw out multiple grenades and deny your enemy an area quite effectively.
In the opinion of many, this tactic is flawed in the fact that Grenades are almost always tactical choices, and usually only 1 or 2 are carried by our fighting men and women in combat. And no, ammunition packs don't often hold spares either.
So this had me thinking on how to equate this to DUST, in a way that allowed us to choose Grenades, but not able to spam them to destroy equipment, people, or vehicles quite so easily.
Firtly, the three types of grenades would have to be made a bit more dangerous... why? Because the entire ideal would be to limit them to 1 held at any time (with modules that can be fitted to increase the number carried) and 2, Nanohives would no longer replenish your supply.
So in this case, Locus and Flux can probably remain around the same. They are quite capable of fulfilling their roles as are. The AV Grenade would require a slight buff to make it capable, on it own' of doing what 2 AV Grenades can. With the removal of the ability to stand on a Hive and spam away, using those grenades becomes a tactical choice.
It also allows, for those fitting enthusiasts, the ability to fit out a 'Grenadier' Style Suit with Grenade Bandolier Modules, making you able to hold multiple grenades (and possibly different types) as the Modules could be used to segregate them on the 'Equipment' Wheel. |

I'm not sure about limiting the grenades to just one as well as not being nanohive restockable. I definitely agree with them not needing to be nanohive restockable though - standing in a couple of nanohives and spamming core locus grenades or AV grenades is silly and shouldn't happen. Especially as it enables AV grenades to be more lethal than they have any right to be.
But if you limit them to just one as well, they become relatively ineffective. I can tell you that I wouldn't even bother fitting grenades if that were the case, and use the fitting room for other things. I know you noted that AV grenades would become ineffective if you only had one of them (and suggested a buff to damage on them to compensate) but that changes them to become a huge alpha weapon, and I'm not sure that's a good idea.
Also, supply depots would restock them still, yes? |
