I see a lot of people always quoting numbers off the servers about how many people are playing at such&such a time, etc...
But really think about it. This is a tight community because there are so few of us. You play the same people in match after match, you form more social connections.
But most importantly, its much easier to stand out in this game because of the shallow pool. If 100,000s of people flocked to this game, we'd all be washed out. The games would be saturated with more junk players, and more players who just exploit (Call of Duty on PS3 being the most obvious example of this). You wouldn't know who the heck CHICAGOCUBS4EVER is, you'd never play against any of the top players in the world, we'd all be nobodies.
And I know they "elite" players of this game couldn't handle that.
I know the elite players from other titles tried DUST, and didn't like it (everyone of them complained about the lack lust controller response). So, they stay on their games and continue to devour everyone, being bored as heck while they do it, not willing to wait around for DUST. |

Perhaps if DUST's popularity exploded the flood of community input might be too much for CCP at the moment. I mean hell, look at the **** we are giving them now. Perhaps they released the game but are refraining from advertising it because even they know this is an extension of open beta. |

And this is exactly what CCP creates with its style of slow, publicly promoted development. EVE is pretty much like that. Sure they want to promote that. The problem is that I don't think they mean for it to be like that alone. If so, they wouldn't have pushed for increased market share and this game wouldn't exist.
Only the players who are willing to go beyond just the game play to support the company tend to remain. CCP thrives off of player loyalty to the company's efforts and vision, not just regular game play alone.
The tight knit community is in EVE. That's where they want you. They are hoping DUST attracts ppl to EVE. DUST will continue to be a poor man's conduit to support one aspect of EVE.
They are obviously counting on the console microtransaction crowd to add constant, revolving door income and numbers to boost their EVE development and their other future games which I'm sure they'll use the same way. They could care less how long you stay in DUST. What are you if you aren't supporting EVE?
Sad really. I prefer the instant combat ground warfare game. I'd much prefer Valkerie to EVE. EVE really isn't a ship game. It's an economic/political strategy game. It's about control of resources.
Remember, its called EVE fanfest, not DUST or CCP fanfest. |

I think they made a mistake calling 5/14 the official release date. I'm sure there were people who have had a bad first impression of CCP because of the Dust 514 'release' and they will never look back. So, I agree. Hold off on the major promotions until the MMO elements have been rounded out a bit, because now it's just a lobby shooter with character sheets....we don't even have social areas (a Bazaar?) or avatar interaction (recruiting office?). I think Dust 514 will be a major AAA title some day. |

I kinda agree with you....I was all set to make a disagreement thread on how it could grow and blah blah blah.
But seriously....add 100,000 players and things might be progressively worse. I love this game and I like to see all the same people and get killed by and kill them back. Its fun....inboxing and talking and laughing.
Like last night was talking with some dude JCR Space or something from some Latino's deal corp and he was tearing me up big time with his heavy and I was going kamikaze and making sure he felt my remote explosives. I blew him up a ton of times, he shot me full of holes a ton of times....
It was due to my tactics of dropping remote explosives and droplinks everytime I respawned that we were able to come back from certain defeat and clench the W.
He sent me a message saying "gg kamikaze" and I sent one back saying "Sorry Bro LOL and better luck next time ;)" to which he replied in laughter HAHAHAHA
its those small things that make this game great and 100,000 10 year olds crying and pitching a fit (youtube "video game tantrum") like that....would certainly ruin it.
I mean hell we already have enough people spamming the laser rifle and the mass driver haha imagine 100,000 more 10 year olds doing it.
omg no...just no. |

Toke the words out of my mouth ....It actually feels a bit like one of that 90's games that i still playing even to day, is just me and another 100 nostalgic old farts running our own servers. A bunch of Donkeys that refuse to move on. |

-Not until the racial lineups are complete(can you imagine the respec qq if we brought in busloads of players and then completed the lineups?).
-Not until core Vehicles are in a good place and AV also.
-Not until we have full hierarchical team comms.
-Not until we have 2 more maps + their full set of installations so the new peeps don't hit the boredom wall while they're grinding their way up.
-Not until slow word-of-mouth growth gives the matchmaker the numbers it needs to give noobs a good experience.
-Not until we have Skirmish 1.0 or its equivalent back. Don't market on meaningless generic modes.
-Not until PC works(i.e. memory leaks or whatever the hell it is).
-Not until we think the NPE tutorials and walkthroughs rock.
-Not until, in some way, shape or form, there is a meaningful connection to New Eden and EVE pilots find enjoyable gameplay in interacting with DUST.
I put this list at something like 3-6 months.
So long as marketing doesn't blow their load too early, this is all we need to conquer the world. |

I do want 110k players on at any given time. I do want to have lots of players logged on and playing because it would put more devs on the the game and fix many of the protostomping and bad matches. We need more of everything and that includes players. Sometimes I have my doubts about this game and then I play a really fun match and I stop doubting. The more I play the more I want it to be better.
When I started playing the game was OK and every iteration has made the game better and makes me want to see it continue to get better. I don't know, I love and hate this game at the same it. It really is like marriages. |

I'm sorry to break it to you but ccp has a small dev team I mean really small. there is a reason why everything is so slow to progress. That said, hardly anything only your list is on the 6 month list.
sockets and maps that are being worked on now are likely next year at earliest. not to mention ccp is simplifying vehicles and actually reducing what they offer in the near future.
The suits alone are just broke and need to be rebalanced (designed) before adding anything new. Just look at the changes starting with uprising as they added and altered suits and made them terrible for the most part.

I would give an example of EVE in this case. EVE is, in my opinion, a great game, but in no way is it a game made for the mainstream.
There is a distinct difference in games made for "everyone" and games made for a certain niche. EVE and DUST are both "niche" games. They cater to specific desires people have in games, and they do this incredibly well in EVE. (Getting there in DUST) That said, they'll likely never catch on as well as games like World of Warcraft of Battlefield, because those games are made for the mainstream (or developed into in WoWs case) |

I do like knowing 25% of the players in every match.
I hate seeing the same jerkoffs in every match.
I liked when you'd just occasionally stumble across somebody you knew. Now, you don't even have to squad with them to be in the same matches with them for 2 hours in a row.
The word-of-mouth thing is only so effective. CCP needs to attract some more randoms from the depths of grandma's basement with advertising. |

No clue, I just heard he calls in his teams Orbitals, soaks up bullets, and sh*t talks Tankers all day...
I don't know why, but he HATES Tankers, he told me not tell anyone, that he thinks Tankers are just cheezy kills and hog kills from the real players. He also said only Heavies are considered real players. He also eats kittens... alive. |
