This just in. CCP is taking assault ships out of EVE to rebalance all ships.

Seriously, do you think they would do that? Have they ever done that?
Who takes stuff out of a game that is out of beta?
If removal of ADS among other things is not proof that this game is still beta and CCP is treating it like that I don't know what is.
Way to lose more player base CCP. I hope you can make this game last long enough to jump the fissure of this game's development and it still mattering to anybody by the time you get it "balanced". |

over priced, broken, useless, waste of sp, that can be so easily destroyed by forge guns that they have no need to exist.
if this is the case I think the game can survive a month while they fit them into the new build of the game, I won't say 1.7 because it could be 1.8 or further when everything is back in place.
the players want a total re-balance of vehicles and that's what they are getting. |

I really think that that's what should be pushed for. I would figure that you keep Logistics Dropships, add in a Black Ops variant with cloaking bonuses to move people covertly, and keep them in all cases fixed in the transport role.
A Gunship would be far more maneuverable and useful for supporting ground troops anyway. |

Sure makes total sense, however they are taking something out of the game that was basically my suit, that i have spent months investing SP into, spent millions of isk in buying them, and was the sole reason I play dust.......
If they could tell us when they are putting them back in it would help ease this panic attack. My biggest fear is that they will take them out and then never put them back in
There has been plenty of threads about how they should go about making dropships more survivable, however none of them suggested taking them out entirely. How better to balance it then having pilots go out there and make some data and feedback?
The dropship really didn't need much to be survivable, but not over powered, taking it out is the wrong way to go about this. |

I use a lot of weapons now, and I'm even specced into two suits, snipers get nerfed every other patch, and I am expecting them to be useless in the near future, and I'm prepared for anything I'm specced into to become useless at any time. I don't have low sp anymore so all my eggs aren't in one basket anymore. |

Oh, and for those DS pilots stayingGǪ better learn to dive bomb. Stick with the cheap ships for that.
If all you can think about is kills with a dropship then I honestly think you shouldn't be flying them as dropships are more designed or at least was intended to be transports and the ASD was a poor excuse of a gunship but thats just how I feel |

Taking out the Assault Dropship to focus on balancing the core of vehicle gameplay just because it is a branch off of the dropships makes just as much sense as taking out the logistics dropsuit to focus on balancing the core of infantry gameplay just because it is a branch off of medium frames. |

well since chrome...
- Draw distance nerf prevents us from firing at optimal range like before chrome.
- Charge sniper has increased in price and quadrupled in cpu and pg.
- Armor has recieved a major buff while the SR damage remains the same.
- The designers are now designing their maps with the intention of preventing snipers from covering points. as seen with the recent maps and quoted by the gm's.
There are other things that have changed but they all follow this pattern, in general the snipers don't change like you said the game just changes around them for the worse. |

depends on how you look at it, assault drops ships were an ill thought quick fix to making drop ships useful, not quite full gun ships they just strapped a turret to the front of the ship and didn't even bother making much of a new model. the controls didn't complement because they didn't spend much time on it.
now if they were doing a full redo of the vehicles wouldn't it make sense to just focus the dropships on being good drop ***** and create a gun ship class to take the place of an assault drop ship?
in the end I don't really know what they have planned, as stated by many they haven't been clear on this at all, you could be right and this could be a stupid waste of a ship, or it might be for the better, I don't ave the information to judge it yet.

I just glanced over the OP, and am gonna add my 2 cents. OP hits the nail on the head with his example of removing Eve's assault ships to balance ships. That would be ridiculous, everyone sees that. But CCP goes ahead and does just that with Dust.
CCP is working on balance issues (albeit in a manner I think is strange), but those balance efforts will ALWAYS FAIL until CCP releases the rest of the game's basic, groundwork content.
The stated goal with removing vehicles is to balance their basic variants. That's fine. Let's say it gets to a point (hypothetically) where everyone is happy with the state of vehicles in the game. What will happen when Minmatar and Amarr vehicles are added? Will they be balanced, or break all the hard work that was put into the initial balance pass? My money is on the latter.
You can't balance your scales and afterwards add the rest of your rice and expect it to still be balanced.
In the same way, CCP can't balance it's content, and then release the rest of the games basic, foundational content and expect it to be balanced.
When I say 'basic content' I'm referring to all [Race] [Size] dropsuit frames, and [Race] [Class] vehicles. A Commando, for example, is not basic because it relies on a [Race] [Size] dropsuit frames, in this case the Amarr Heavy. To clarify, Amarr Heavy is basic, Amarr Comando is not. I'm NOT saying that every single thing should be released in Dust before they start balancing things. If that's what you took away from this post, please reread it. If I'm unclear, let me know and I'll try to explain more clearly. |

What is with this argument? Look, you know what a gunship can't do that an ADS can do? Transport 4 players! If and when they add a gunship, I highly doubt it will have that many passenger thoughts. I know a lot of people may overlook this, but those four passenger slots is pretty huge to how I play my ADS. I will basically take my squad from base to base while providing aerial support (and freeing up one extra teammate who doesn't need to stay on board to gun). The ADS is not a poor man's excuse for a gunship at all! Rather it is an extremely versatile support vehicle, and a pretty important one to the current state of vehicle balance. Even if they were to add in a gunship, I would probably still use ADS most the time just because of how important those 4 passenger seats are to my play style.
I too am now beginning to fear CCP will never re-implement the ADS since this "gunships will make them obsolete" thing that's gaining steam. |

Ok for one the draw distance has already for the most part been fixed the charge needed to be put up at proto with the cost and requirements of a proto weapon because of have powerful it is
The armor buff had little to no effect on the charge as it's still only gonna take 2 shots to kill them maybe 1 and of course there will be maps the sniper will have a disadvantage if they didn't have at least 1 map like that then you couldn't call it a FPS game and its the players job to adapt to it I have so I don't see why you can't |

I too am now beginning to fear CCP will never re-implement the ADS since this "gunships will make them obsolete" thing that's gaining steam. you do grasp I said that it was how I felt about it right and I said it's a poor excuse because of how it was designed now don't get me wrong you are right about the passenger seats but if you think about your statement it has 4 slots and since you have a gun you don't need someone taking up a slot to gun but on a dropship or logi dropship that wouldn't happen anyway because it has 6 slots 1 or 2 for gunners and still have the same 4 slots you have while I get what you mean what you said didn't support what you mean so well :P
Anyway it was poorly thought out or at least I think it was because like the rest it is weak and easy to kill with a stupid cost and the damage the skill gives to the pilot it a bit to high while the resistance I think was the only think I wouldn't complain about then you have the speed which helps it survive now the reason I think this is a poor design is 90% of all the ADS pilots I've seen besides you would just get in one and go farm kills or pick on tanks I don't see hardly any transporting troops they just using it for the high damage
You also don't know that for all we know the gunship could have 6 slots on it we really don't know what they will do so you saying what a ADS can do that a gunship can't is invaild because we don't even know what a gunship can do on this game
I used dropships through out the Beta and then branched out when it released if thats what you want to call it lol
This is just how I feel on it I'm not trying to pick a fight |
