One of my corp mates mentioned the other night (I don't purchase much AUR stuff atm) that the Merc Pack is currently the best deal for getting boosters. Not only do you get a sizable amount of AUR, you also get a 30 day booster with it. If you bought $100 worth of Merc Packs you'd be able to get quite a few more boosters than 1 Elite Pack offers.

So they're taking that away.

The Tactical Pack completely turns that on its head, and also sells a very small number (for the price) number of consumable items. Overall it just seems like it's something CCP is setting up to try to wring a little bit of money out of people who are new to the game. You might have also noticed that the New Player Experience blog that went up on the Dust site today made its debut on the PlayStation Blog. This is something that they haven't done for ages (since closed beta really). As small as it is, it's something of a marketing push.

As if boosters weren't already expensive enough. xP

Expect to get something on first Dust launch anniversary, that you could sold in future for incredible amount of cash, just because it is limited to this specific event and you can 'redeem it' for short period of time. I'm already missing the merc pack, it was great value and it got any new player pretty well set up to start dust

As if boosters weren't already expensive enough. xP Also, to address another thread hanging around: The Raven, SVER, and Valor suits weren't given away for free, they were just given away at rock-bottom prices for 3 days. CCP out-of-the-blue announced that if you purchased a Merc Pack for 3 days during the closed beta, you would also get all 3 BPO suits with it. That was easily the best $20 I've spent on Dust. When the MAG BPO's actually made it back to the market, they ended up being worth a little more than $5 of AUR apiece.

I don't fault them for that.

I have played since beta, I think the end of closed beta and I have only the 10 Caldari suits and the 10 Gallente suits that I think we got from that Titan crashing on one of the planets event. The only actual cool / useful stuff I have is the BPO i got from buying a merc pack or two!

Because I logged into an account I made for a friend (who doesn't own a PS3 right now but might at some point in the future, so he can start with lots of free SP at least), and didn't have the option to redeem the items in game. I could have sworn that I made it more than 60 days ago, and I haven't logged into it since the day I created it (and know that my friend would have had no way to do so). Worst case scenario, you would have had to log into the account on the website first, so I just f***ed myself by logging in to see if they were there. Sigh.

Depending on how you value actives to passive boosters it's not as much a severe lead. 5 Merc packs = 5 active boosters + 200k AUR, 1 elite pack is 2 active + 2 passive + 200 aur. 1 less booster total, same aur for more boosters, and more BPO's of which I've used about all of them. The elite, as pretty much a 1 time grab for the BPO's, isn't bad in comparison.

At least the international pricing is a bit fairer than usual. Yeah exactly, a one time purchase should at least include one BPO otherwise it makes no sense to limit them, I think they've made a mistake as why would they limit it to just one purchase if all of the items are consumables. I'm almost certain this is just a sales technique to get people to pick up a bunch of merc packs before they expire next week cos they're immeasurably better than this new tacticalame pack.
