At what level are the core mechanics good enough?
What do you feel are the requirements to move past an optimization driven phase and into a content driven phase of development?
* the theory being that CCP does not want to release new content into a shoddy game, because it will lose their one chance to retain the influx of players who come from it. |

Well that's assumed too but meaning if they could do it tomorrow, they wouldn't. |

I have a feeling CCP is arbitrarily holding off new content because content brings people in but they want to wait until they first get Dust to a point that it can actually hold people in as well. CCP says they aren't arbitrarily holding it off, but then I'd like an explanation for why it takes over 5 months to create 2 heavies and 3 lights which should have been a priority ever since Uprising hit.
People can put up with a less-than-perfect "core" so long as they have plenty of variety.
I guess it wouldn't be arbitrarily holding off then but that's what I'm getting at.
At what point is core "good enough". Or what basic features do they want in the game BEFORE they bring in new suits and vehicles?
Obviously everything so far was on that list, and the things coming up like Factional Warfare changes, squad finder, vehicle re-work, |

Aeon Amadi wrote:Question, how long do you guys usually go without new content for other games?
Well when you get to talking about something that's supposed to be an MMO, combined with the fact that it "released" missing half of the symmetrical content required in the game so far...
I'd say as far as per-maturely released MMO's go you could expect new content every 3-6 months.
But this also assume that the game started off with enough content to last that long in the first place.

Other games release every one to two years with major content additions as well as minor ones (well, substantial compared to Dust) every three or so months inbetween. Also to be fair, games like Battlefield for example don't decide to release without the Russian racial variants of tanks or helicopters Even Planetside 2 which is an abominably bad game had pretty much all of its content there on release.
It's worse for a game like Dust. Where you have to permanently spec into areas, some of which you may have to hold off on for >2 years?
Or spec into the closest thing to eventually have a wasted 7 million when the race you Really wanted comes out. |

side note on dark souls:
It was a content complete single player game (technically online, quasi multiplayer) Not meant for finding or playing with friends.
Also it was never intended to have a DLC. FromSoft just decided for whatever reason to add some more detail to their story and cash in on it way later. Maybe it was ideas that couldn't make it by Launch deadline but they still wanted to use those boss ideas. |

I have a lot of SL level chars, working on a soul level 200 murderer. This game is so much fun, even farming is done so very very well!
Back to the discussion. I'm waiting for the very first to jump in here and remember us all that this is free to play, and we don't need to play it, and that if we drop money, it is our own fault. This person will be probably right. But I'm not agreeing on the fact that if it's free, they can do what ever they want with us.
Look I would have payed 60Gé¼ for this game, and I would pay for well done DLs, I'm saying this to get this out of way.
So back to the "it is free stuff". CCP has used our leap of faith that we gave them, they used the money that we dash forward, so I think that we are in the position to demand something. After all, without US, CCP would have no one who would back this game up. And a company should be very careful if they are thinking the way some fans are doing here: "it's free, you can go bal bla bla".
Not sure if I'd say players are in a position to "Demand" anything but I'd say CCP is certainly in a position to be listening. |
