I've been talking about this ever since lasers and mass drivers first came out and think it's finally time to put it to the wider community to see what people think.
My thoughts are that certain weapons are supposed to be awesome against one or the other type of HP and not very good against the other. However as it stands the difference really isn't that great. I think lasers should pretty much suck against armor and explosives should be greatly reduced against shields. So how about if we changed the current multipliers to 150% and 50% for some weapons?
Laser rifles: 150% vs shield / 50% vs armor Mass drivers, locus grenades, missiles: 50% vs shields / 150% against armor
Then maybe another lower tier for some other weapons Scrambler rifle/pistol: 130% vs shields / 70% vs armor Flaylock pistols: 70% vs shields / 130% vs armor
This would give a lot more differentiation to weapons and a lot more meaning for your choices in tanking type. It would also give a bit of a stealth buff to commandos wielding anti-shield/anti-armor weapons instead of just having a back up to the all-conquering AR.
What do you think? Have I missed any significant weapons that should be included here? Do you reckon this sort of rebalancing would make the game more interesting/tactical| |

Hmmm... It sounds neat but I'm afraid it might force everyone to adopt an opening anti-shield weapon and a closing anti-armor weapon just be remotely competitive. (it would put an end to assault logis though ) |

please no, lasers already suck vs armor, when you add this to the fact its the only weapon that actually requires you to really manage your range to target further restrictions are just not necessary. |

I am the what you would consider the closest thing to a reformist Amarrian, following the more mild teachings of St Anoyia, and more or less embracing the lack of need for Reclaiming, but I do serve my household with honour. I don't think it should be a flat rate, each weapon should range from 135-65 to 110-90 different weapons and weapon variants getting different percentage it will give roles a deeper meaning |

Nope. The current grenade spam would suck for this. It'd leave the shield tankers high and dry whilst armour tanking would be dead again. |

You'd make the AR OP. With the minimal difference the AR's have in damage they will be even more powerful.
Mass drivers not even able of bringing a shield / dual tanked red dot to half his life and the laser being able to wipe out shields,but never actually killing anything. NO. by all means,i think bonuses should be REDUCED. Say : Laser / scrambler 115% vs shields / 85% vs armor and so on. |

I sure hope not Django. Shield tankers would be too grenade resistant. And my ScP would take a decade to go through a heavy then. It really would make weapons even more niche except the AR. You wouldn't bring a MD out unless you for certain determined most the team is shield tanking. Certain AV players could become completely obsolete to certain vehicles rather than being more rounded and general, being able to take out all vehicles. |

I like the idea with a few tweaks. Make hybrid weapons 80% effective to both shields and armor, or other reduced value. Make locust grenade a hybrid grenade and add an armor equivalent of the flux(high armor damage but little to no shield damage).pay for all rounded'ness with reduced effectiveness. |
