pretend you dont want to die :P
i see too many people rush out into positions where they lose the advantage, take bait they shouldn't, and don't do risk assessment while they play.
4v1? run away... or figure out a way to separate them first... dont just run face first into them and expect to come out alive.
see that open field? how about you don't cross it using the shortest possible path to the objective... take the scenic route, you know the one that has LOADS of cover and is rarely used for some reason?
sometimes its better to retreat and let the enemy have the objective, especially if your alone, they usually leave immediately afterwards so you can just pick off the lone straggler and rehack.
speaking of wich, DEFENCE! your team is winning the MCC race and both sides hole equal number of objectives? then you dont need another objective just stay put and wait for them to run across that open field and pick them off from the safety of a superior position. if your winning the MCC race then the opponent needs to come to YOU, you don't need to go looking for them and you can set up ambushes in your own turf to pick off small advances.
If their entire team is fighting you at one base, that means that EVERY other base is open to attack, just walk around them and take the two or three bases they just left undefended, there usually only one or two people guarding them.
i know that we are immortal soldiers and all, but the easiest way to be good at the game is to pretend you only get one life.
you will find that you kill alot more people (usually the reckless types) and dont die nearly as much, making it more cost effective to run even better gear. |

Seen too many people camp an objective because they're too afraid to close the gap or die once or twice. The enemy team can just surround and swarm them while I actually move forward and push them back, even flanking given that we arent totally surrounded. OP's tactics are the reason why I lost so many matches to blueberries too scared to play aggressively or make it harder for the enemy to just roflstomp them out of hiding.
Enjoy your k/d OP, I'm sure you're satisfied curling up into a ball. |

let me just explain something real quick
red has A and B blue has C and D
blue has the lead
should blue be making a reckless push into red territory giving up the advantage of a dug in position to run across and open field single file into enamey fire?
the answer tot hat question determines weather or not your a good player...
ill give you a hint... NO
like i said though, go re-read it im positive you misunderstood. |

I Agree with this advice, and that this can drasticly increase peoples strategy in the game.
As a follow up note should you need to work on skill as oppossed to tactics, try using basic suits, no dmg mods, and basic weapons only and nothing but free basic gear. This will force you to do one of two things, rage quit or get better. |

i once played for two months in a sever logi with nothing but militia mods and a mass driver....
this mans advice is true... play in crap gear where any mistake = death and you will definatley improve VERY fast. |

I ALWAYS flank when blues are engaging reds. Focus is on them, not on meand that is the way I like it. It amaze me how many blues don't check their HUD either. The only good position is an advantageous one imo. |

Yea, no doubt about it.
@OP:
This is good advice to build on. Oddly enough a scout actually is forced to bend these rules but for the most part this is real solid advice.

Had a friend of mine who forced himself to use just knives and a Scrambler Pistol. He's gotten ungodly accurate and a lot of times will dip behind cover and come out before your brain can physically understand that he's gone behind cover, so you spend all that time aiming at a crate while he's approaching you from the flank.
Just as well, I've seen him kill a Heavy in three rounds from the Scrambler Pistol... I'd hate to see what he could do with anything else. |

This is great advice, +1.
You really should be playing this game like it is a no respawn game. Value your life, don't foolishly throw it away. I know this can be a hard habit to break with how invaluable most games treat individual lives, but an easy remedy for this is to create the most expensive fit you can possibly make and go at it, see how much you care about that ISK and how much safer you start to play. And playing it safe doesn't necessarily mean staying conservative, soon enough you'll be able to play it safe while still being extremely effective. |

Yeah i figured that one out that your not gonna be standing there for an hour....
Real Life combat situations dont calculate suit diffrences, shields, armor plates etc ..in RL we dont respawn and opponents dont dance around bullets so i can see it being usefull in RL, because one in the chest is enough to incap/kill an opponent, especially if its from a rifle round.
But in a game its more about reacting to outside sources then thinking of what might happen. |

Stop for 1 hour, then think for a day, plan for a month, and act next year... ![Roll](https://forums.dust514.com/Images/Emoticons/ccp_roll.png) This is something use in REAL life combat situations.
You probably doing most of it without thinking, specially if you been playing FPS games for long time. But i personally find that keep repeating that four letter in my head when i playing, helps me to focus.

If you need to stop to think on how you are going to formulate a plan of attack, then you need more practice until you are left with just Reaction, the moment you can leave thought process out of combat and just flow with the fight and react to outside interfearance.

Started with Wolfenstein 3D in 1992, my issue is that my bad habbits have been ingrained for so long that they are hard to change. |

Has anyone seen World War Z yet? In a scene, Brad Pitt says a phrase that every FPS player should live by..."In my line of work, movement is life".
Truer words were never spoken. I never stand still, even while I am hacking. Lol! |

+1. Agreed - best single training tip.
I do exactly the opposite, ofc, and head straight for trouble. But it's intentional practice for when all the plans and tactics get blown to hell and gone and S*** hits the fan and there is no time to think, just kill and stay alive until you have the luxury of formulating a new plan.
Some fights happen in the head, some happen in the hindbrain, and some happen in the spine, which actually does more processing than the brain. |
