I do exactly the opposite, ofc, and head straight for trouble. But it's intentional practice for when all the plans and tactics get blown to hell and gone and S*** hits the fan and there is no time to think, just kill and stay alive until you have the luxury of formulating a new plan.
Some fights happen in the head, some happen in the hindbrain, and some happen in the spine, which actually does more processing than the brain.
That has to s*ck if your a spineless bastard then :p |

in a match last night, I looked around a corner and saw 11 red dots, I setup my remote mine retreat plan and began picking them off.
while killing them and retreating and blowing them up and reassaulting, I watched 4 individual blue dots in 4 individual charges solo rush them like they were william wallace.
on was even in my squad, I was like...."hey you are rushing into a certain death situation there.....okay well good luck." |

i see too many people rush out into positions where they lose the advantage, take bait they shouldn't, and don't do risk assessment while they play.
4v1? run away... or figure out a way to separate them first... dont just run face first into them and expect to come out alive.
see that open field? how about you don't cross it using the shortest possible path to the objective... take the scenic route, you know the one that has LOADS of cover and is rarely used for some reason?
sometimes its better to retreat and let the enemy have the objective, especially if your alone, they usually leave immediately afterwards so you can just pick off the lone straggler and rehack.
speaking of wich, DEFENCE! your team is winning the MCC race and both sides hole equal number of objectives? then you dont need another objective just stay put and wait for them to run across that open field and pick them off from the safety of a superior position. if your winning the MCC race then the opponent needs to come to YOU, you don't need to go looking for them and you can set up ambushes in your own turf to pick off small advances.
If their entire team is fighting you at one base, that means that EVERY other base is open to attack, just walk around them and take the two or three bases they just left undefended, there usually only one or two people guarding them.
i know that we are immortal soldiers and all, but the easiest way to be good at the game is to pretend you only get one life.
you will find that you kill alot more people (usually the reckless types) and dont die nearly as much, making it more cost effective to run even better gear.

The majority of blue berries don't use basic tactics. Nice try OP but they'll still be crappy players. |

Nice post, I definitely agree.... A lot of this seems like common sense, but I guess it isn't so common since I rarely see anyone doing this. I can't tell you how many times I've though "REALLY?! We JUST hacked this, where are you guys going? All we need to do is hold it and win!" Everyone wants to see red and get kills it seems like.
And the point on using gimped suits seems solid. As a scout, I approve... doesn't seem to work for me though since I just graduated to the same weak-ass scout suit..... ;) Nah, j/k - it does make a diff when I play on the alt characters.
I think I want to be one of those pistol precision specialists, but honestly I don't think I can stomach getting stomped anymore. It seems like it's all that ever happens! |

100% agree. Positioning and plans of attack are one of the biggest determining factors of getting better at any fps whose map sizes are bigger than what CoD gives you. Recognizing cover, enemy movements, patterns, all of that can give you an edge in battle.
The #1 rule to follow is to NEVER fight an enemy on their terms. It's difficult and you can't do it all the time, but it makes a monumental difference. Easy ones are recognizing their weapons and suits and engaging accordingly. It's an insanely simple concept, but so many people will chase the HMG Heavy around the corner in their Gallente Med suit. -_- Eventually you'll start picking up other ques concerning specific players and their patterns/tendencies and can plan accordingly.
To whoever thinks this is about K/D ratios, it's about death timers. Without having Proto Uplinks, your death is 10 seconds long, typically closer to 15-20 seconds with lag/loading taken into consideration. That's a very long time and will usually result in a failed assault of a point or the loss of a defense. Taking an unnecessary death to hopeless defend or assault a point is a loss of clones and valuable time. Tactical retreats will pick off those that get overly aggressive on the enemy team and can result in a successful counterattack. |
