TL;DR: CCP needs to throw scouts a bone and quick because the game is becoming (has already become?) joyless and trite.
So, as a scout, I've been trying to make this game fun for a while - but to no avail. I really just gave up today. There's no point. It takes 4 hits from an AR to kill me even at distance - and I'm talking militia gear here. I'm shredded before I even have time to think. Earlier today I spawned on an uplink and was dead before I even heard the sound effects of the AR firing. I'm a OHKO for mass drivers and flaylocks. SMGs eat my "armor" (read: wet tissue paper) for breakfast. HMGs (which people magically love to complain about for some reason) are a nemesis without a counter.
And I know the response from many in the forums are "Scouts are supposed to be weak! You're not being stealthy enough! You suck at scout!". Well no. You're wrong. I'm really good at scouting and I love the role I should be playing more than the everlasting d!ck measuring contest that is AR spam. To those who tell me to be stealthy, I say - by what mechanism? If I'm spotted I'm spotted and if I'm spotted I'm dead. I don't move fast enough to dash between cover even with a complex Kinetic catalyzer - I'm still easily spotted with an active scanner, profile dampener or not and so on and so forth. There is no mechanism for stealth in this game. Period. If you manage to flank somebody and chase them down, but they turn around by random chance, you're still dead. Period. So all you assault players who play one game as a scout, get a decent score and come onto the forums talking about how "I regularly go 30/2 with militia scout and militia shotgun. This is how you should really scout. Hardy Har Har", I suggest you keep it to yourselves because nobody believes you and nobody thinks you're cool.
Anyhow, I'm just bored of trying to make the game fun. I'm trying to get into dropships now as a last ditch effort of something I might like, but I know where that's ultimately headed. I would switch playstyles, but then I would have wasted 4 months on a playstyle that CCP could have told me months ago that they would not pay attention to. Fellow scouts, haven't you ever noticed? Scout topics NEVER. EVER. EVER. get blue tags - it doesn't matter how detailed the post. The last substantive feedback on scouts was over 2 months ago and wasn't followed up ever. We know there are no changes in 1.5 and I would bet my copy of GTA5 that there will be nothing in 1.6 either. I would think we could get something in 1.7, but does anybody here actually believe for a moment that it will actually happen?
I'm not leaving - so no, you can't have my isk. I'm just saying that at this point, the game is joyless for a scout. I recently developed a playstyle that saves me a lot of suits, but it is rather boring. It is disengaging. It's no fun. And its all because I've been pigeon-holed into this suit with absolutely no way to get around it except to slave away for another 4 months. That might be good for the game's numbers but it is hardly an effective way to build a solid userbase. I'm sorry. The last straw was being snuck up on by a heavy today. He managed to get with 3m of me without it showing up on my passive scanner. The problem I had with this is that I've spent a ton of time recently upgrading my precision enhancement and I use an advanced module in my high slot.....how can a heavy get so close when I'm continually monitoring my surroundings? Things aren't working like they should and it has become very frustrating.
PS: The first @$$hole that says "if you want to not be seen, stack 4 profile dampeners in your low slots" needs to get out right now and save their time. Nobody cares and that is an exceedingly poor fitting and you and everyone knows it. So just stop. |

As long as everyone keeps buying Aurum and Omega boosters come the 30th they don't care cause if its not on the roadmap then all you get is Soon...
Even though i agree CCP needs to pay attention to quite a few groups on here but yet it seems like they could really care less especially when it comes to communicating their concern.. |

I just wanna say ill save you the heart ache now don't go into DS. i have an Incubus ADS and i rarely run it cause its like flying a wet origami crane through hail... I know the feeling of sh!tty equipment i to have a scout that i now only run at the start of the match. I also have a crap-tastic shot gun cause the only thing they are good for is killing someone off a turret. ( If you say they rock lets see long term use statistic) I have a commando suit that is only good as a sniper/ swarm combo and not to be ANYWHERE near a redberry cause the suit sucks! There are a lot of things wrong with the game, and CCP keeps changing them and basically saying F*UCK YOU to the players. They buff, nerf, take out, put in, alter, and down write change aspects of the game (which by default completely changes the way the game runs, operates, and flows) all because they listen to the most stupid people i've ever met.
I could keep this going for hours... all in all if you wanna do DS go ahead but i am warning you now.... |

Remove the Scout equipment slot - Give them active cloak instead.
Activates in place of equipment slot. Can just pull out his wristwatch like an orbital and cloak up. Time could be determined by the grade of the suit. Would need relatively long recharge time for balance - (It would be silly if it was just a team full of predators running around.) Maybe a 5 or 6 second cloak for the proto suit with a 20 second recharge. Potentially modified by adding gear that modifies your max cloak time and cloak recharge time. Blurry when you move fast but totally hidden if you're motionless - Perhaps the more you move while cloaked, the faster your cloak disappears (Similar to Crysis, if anyone has played that.) Give scouts the anti-infantry "assassin" role and let them run with it. Literally!
The code is already in place to cloak players and vehicles upon spawning and prior to movement. Just apply that same thing to scouts for a short period. It would drop you off radar and make you immune to scanners for a short period.
Just my 2cents.

Amen brother. I see you on the scout channel a lot so I know you must put a reasonable amount of game-time in. I feel the same way. I have experimented with a variety of fits and the only ones that seem to do well are the ones that tank armor/shield and that I try to play as a flanker/assault. Why the hell not just put a kin/cat on an assault suit - I could be done that with 2-3M SP invested and a militia AR instead of 18M SP.....

I feel stupid for being a scout. Every day. All day. Doesn't matter if I'm running dampeners in my lows, or range extenders, or armor reppers, or stamina mods or kin/cats.... precision in the high... it's all crap compared to shield/armor and a nanohive or active scanner.
"Hey, here I am - I'm not a scout, I'm a crappy assault that decided to use a light frame suit!"
Stealth is fine when it works.... so rare. I mean sure it's easy to stay hidden if you DON'T want to hack objectives, go for kills, counter hack, drop uplinks in USEFUL places or basically do anything useful for your team. Sure it's easy to stack range mods and see all these great opponents that you CAN'T KILL.
It's AWESOME to run your ass off and get your one uplink down and just get mowed down by an AR from 90m away.
Seriously, i'll get a good game - maybe 1 of 20 and I'll be like "sure, it's hard mode but I can make it work" that would usually happen on a Tuesday afternoon then wednesday rolls around, the cap is reset and I get ******* STOMPED repeatedly regardless of what tactics I use.
The only thing that works is running in a squad as a tanked flank attacker.....
At this point I just play a few games as scout and switch to my Logi Alt, use a standard Gallente Logi suit and roll around w/ an AR and mow down people, safe and secure in my 600 HP suit which only costs 15k.
Oh yeah - and a big **** YOU to every one who has ever mowed me down with an duvolle AR in their medium frame suit. Jeeze, challenge yourself when you see a scout you *****. At least use your damn sidearm or your fist if you're Mr. 1000 HP logi bad-ass..... |

Every time I see scout threads I'm sure I die a little inside. As I've said before, I have three chars, this one is my dedicated scout and I loath the cap grind each week cuz I know its gunna be 5% fun and 95% "omfg wtf how the hell". The 5% is the rare occasions I seem to be on form and everything seems to be working properly.
Some serious blue tag love is needed on these threads, just to make us feel a little better that our beloved scouts and the countless SP invested isn't all for nothing.
I know of no other class that I'm constantly changing the fittings on to try and find something that works consistently. Maybe I am a crap scout, I'll be more than happy to admit that, but when I see seasoned scouts with more experience and skill than me have the same experiences I can't help but think its not my lack of skill.
In my corp I have an amazing scout friend (Solider Uki) who can go 27/1 and better in his suit, sure he's got 21m SP (10m more than me!), but his fittings are very similar to mine, so I don't know, maybe it is me! |

How about you play a scout, GUESS WHAT, they nerfed scout speed, strafe speed and now heavies have the same turn speed. YOU CANT jump around and bunny hop, guess why? AR scrubs QQ'd till CCP made Stamina 33% for jumping no matter what suit you use.

Dude... some people make us look good. There are a few that make it work. Like gods on the battlefield, they are our brothers in our shining Gallente form fitting armor, or Mad Max Minmatar badassness.
And many times those that do this can't do it consistently.... for every time it annoys someone like you and you think we are "OK as is" and "don't need another bone", you don't see the 100 times we die because someone we didn't see mowed us down, or our target turned around just a BIT too early....
If you were a scout you would know. But you're not (I take it) so your opinion..... well, eh. You know (it doesn't mean ****).
If it makes you feel better if I see you on the field, I'm sure you'll be able to kill me way more than I kill you. |

I play ALL roles.
My UplinkHackScout fitting is ridiculously soft.
I can have the drop on somebody and give them hell with a GEK, but if they turn around (even with <50 HP) it's over.
So I thought I'd try my KinCatScanScout. Soooo much slower than it used to be. Which, makes it useless.
Now, I just have Logis just to play the role of my Scout fits. Speed tanked (if that's even a thing anymore) Uplinks, Scanner, and Nanos - does what I wanted my Scouts for (especially since GD MFing Shotguns have been broke for 6 months now).

I like to run a Dren scout or the Dragonfly. I think its fun, do not take the role to serious. I know I am like glass, but I am fast as hell. So I play my own way, I counter hack and wait for someone to hack an objective and then kill them. Its an easy 50 points and if you time it just right you can get the counter hack as well. Also uplinks cant stress this enough. |

Its nice that you can play an almost free scout but real scouts are paying 150k isk for the same amount of survivability. Thats the problem. |

It's impossible to not get hit with the aim assist. Pre 1.4 it was possible to do it. Now someone with a militia AR can kill you in 0.2 seconds regardless of how you move. |

Pretty much hits the nail on the head.
I have to say that I've completely given up running proto suits. They are just not worth the cost, especially running them on a Wednesday or Thursday which is when I'm getting stomped the most. I don't want to burn through 700k ISK a game.... So, running a standard or advanced I still have what feels like the same amount of survivability (none) but at least I'm making money.
That is a horrible situation right there. The proper response for a reasonably high SP specialist, who's been playing the same role for 9 months should not be to give up and only use their cheapest crap because they can't find a way to stay alive (other than hiding in the redline or never engaging enemies).
Maybe I'm just bad and need to "gg", but I really doubt it. And I'm not into running my scout with 3 armor plates and a repper and sheild extender, even though this is the only fit I've found I can do decent with. I mean that's fine and people do good with that, but I want to run my scout... do things my way, which involves using those other cool scout modules.
EDIT: all that being said I have to say I was frying some serious medium frames yesterday morning with my laser. But, what the hell - using the laser rifle on a scout suit is about as much "anti" scout as you can get - I mean, I was cheaping out here, not being a scout. Nothing says "here I am" like a laser.... my only deaths were from feedback damage. Taste hot Amarrian justice, you clunky medium frame AR pansies. You're gonna fuckin' burn and you're gonna like it. |
