So... Eve Online has announced their winter expansion for November 19th, and on that page is an impressive list of new features, new content, and a future vision for Eve.
Are we going to get a similar announcement, or are we just going to get another point release bug fix? |

Nope CCP hates us..... not really EVE is just more important to them as of now, the best we can hope for is a November build that will add content. |

Sounds pretty cool and would love to 'build' something in Dust but I think that is a long long way away. |

I don't think dust is going to get an expansion this winter considering that CCP is focusing on the core elements and by the release dates of 1.5-1.8(late in the month or early in the following month) . It seems likely it will release sometime next year. |

Im not talking about having the same content so much as a share in the vision. An idea of what PC is actually building towards in that a corporation builds something other than an ISK stockpile.
Mercs use ISK to buy suits to play the game. More ISK, more of a buffer to run expensive fits when you need to. Thats where the need for ISK stops....
Corps use ISK to buy clone packs to play in PC. More ISK, more clone packs. Thats where the need for ISK stops....
Once you hit the point where you are just stockpiling it becomes a grind. Its just my belief that it is at this point that boredom begins to set in. By adding on 'next steps' to this through expansion, it gives people a new reason to play. That is my point of building something. |

Im guessing 2.0 will be the next expansion and it will come sometime around the next Fanfest.
1.6 November 1.7 December 1.8 January 1.9 February
Then the announcement of 2.0 sometime in March and that it is scheduled for May followed by all the build up and teasers associated with it.

The industry siphoning is sorta cool.
The S.O.E. ships that are probably useless will look cool when docked.
And the alteration of existing numbers on existing ships can potentially be fun...ish.
I don't think this really makes an expansion though. I don't think CCP knows what an expansion actually is. I think it's just become another buzzword around the office they use.
Expansions to games do not possess such an incredibly small amount of content. Apocrypha? That was an expansion. Trinity was a sight to behold.
This stuff? Not an expansion. Just a patch with a few cool things that most people will never use.
The sad thing is, I think they know this isn't an expansion. They basically copypasta'd Seagulls fanfest speech and stuck it on the front page of Rubicon, even though it had nothing to do with any of the features listed. They needed to give the idea of an expansion with substance, even though there isn't any. This makes me sad, because its happened too many times now. Always big on the promises and low on the content. Always talking about the horizon and never really moving towards it in any meaningful manner.
Meh. These are all good things and I don't want to berate the people working on them, but... why so little, every time? I have to wonder just how thin the staff is spread these days. |

This stuff? Not an expansion. Just a patch with a few cool things that most people will never use. You forgot the new deployable structures, the tearing down of hisec NPC customs offices, reworked certification system (new player experience), and the allusion to the buffing of small gang warfare tactics, in addition to the other things they have yet to tell us about ("more to be revealed in the coming weeks").
The main point I intended to bring up with this post is that CCP Eve has released a list of new content and changes to the public months before any of it is actually being implemented. Eve is getting new toys to play with and new mechanics to abuse, while we're sitting here not knowing what's in store for early October (save the ever-popular squad finder). There's not even a hint at what our winter expansion (provided we actually get one and it's not another point release bug fix) will bring to Dust, while Eve is attempting to hype up its playerbase for new content months down the road. |

We are supposed to be getting a winter expansion... supposedly We have up to Uprising 1.8 confirmed to exist, so
Uprising 1.5 in October Uprising 1.6 in November Uprising 1.7 in December Uprising 1.8 in January
Looks like we are in Uprising for quite awhile longer, signs of a Dust Winter expansion look slim.

Makes no sense for them to title an update Uprising 2.0, might as well make that an entirely new named expansion. |

The new deployable structures are indeed new content, as are the SOE ships. but that's seems to be all the new content. Doesn't really feel like an expansion, it feels like a small update.
Everything else thats changing is an alteration of existing content and mechanics, not direct expansion.
The old CCP defense is "it's a sandbox, players create most of the content." but I don't buy that line at all. Players alter the experience, but the content is very much all on CCP. |

CCP modified their dev schedule after Uprising in order to address many issues with the release as well as cater to FPS "ADD"; implied is an acknowledgement that there isn't enough in the game / too much wrong with the game to ask players to wait 6 months for major changes.
We get point releases every month instead of semi-annually. |

PS: EVE get some new Ships, new high-level balance for old ships, new structures ... Squad finder is actually going to be really awesome for the game. Granted it is not amazing new content and arguably is something pretty basic that some people will say "shoulda been in by beta" , it greatly increases functionality.
- Facilitation of nearly instantaneous connection between recruiter and potential corp recruit is going to really help newer corps and players. Places like Dust Uni are going to be able to advertise their services and grab new players who might otherwise be lost.
- It also enables nearly instantaneous 'Need Ringers!' calls that can be answered by the entire community and smooths out the process of fielding a full team for PC adventures as long as the corps using the feature are ok being casual about it.
- Enables the RP niche / enables speedy formation of squads with common FW interests
- Enables niche squad types "Assault dropships only squad!!!!" or "LLAV seeks tank to rep!!" that can lead to new tactical gameplay and replace several public channels that new players don't know about. |
