So i was playing the other night and for some reason League of Legends was seeping in to my brain and i got the idea for a "flash" type mechanic in Dust.
I think it could work with a grenade type item that when thrown your clone would teleport to the location the grenade lands giving you a chance to escape your enemy.
This item would be a 1 off, only 1 grenade per suit and perhaps not even able to be resupplied through nanites.
Could be cool and useful and honestly it could be balanced. |

The last thing this game needs is more 'Nade spam. A teleporting grenade would be used exactly how I use mine in Borderlands; I'll see how far away I can hit a target with them :) |

So basically a one-use throwable personal drop uplink that works without respawning?
Sounds like a very good idea, especially for the sort of players that don't like to stick around the thick of the battle.
...Until you fairies with nova knives start appearing out of thin air behind your back...
[Edit] My own ideas: - There could be both time fused and contact variants of these. The contact ones would be for a quick ninja-type escape around a corner while the time fused ones would be more of a mobility enhancement that helps you scale certain objects and approach the enemy from unusual directions. - To avoid abuse teleportation could apply some damage to the user (think 50 hp) so you don't have people zap out of your reticle at the last moment. |

Teleportation is pretty not-justiable lore-wise. (Just lag-wise, apparently. ;))
As it is, drop uplinks kinda spit in the face of New Eden canon at the moment with their current functionality. |

Perhaps it isn't teleportation but more of an micro micro jump drive that speeds you through space very quickly over a short distance.
I know that something like this would come far into the future of the game because there is alreadya n incredible backlog of things CCP has to work on but it would be fun to hear from a Dev and have them say "hey, cool idea, i'll add it to our list and discuss it later!" |

I love the idea very much. Grenade throw distance is not very far, so I don't think it needs extra limits like "no ressuplies". I think they should come in 2. |

KInda. It's not like we have good working wormholes in EVE yet. Oh wait, there's jump drives. |

Would be great for scouts. |

I'd like this on a scout specifically. I don't think a heavy should be able to use this to get right on top of you and waste you instantly with his HMG. At least with a scout they'd be squishy as hell so you'd be able to dunk them if they were dumb enough to throw it right next to you.
Also, it should take about a half a second to work and be loud as a grenade so it's used more defensively/tactically as opposed to closing the distance to shotgun someone.
ALSO, you should only have one and it should not be resupplyable. Also it probably would make more sense as an equipment being as it is non-combat oriented really. I don't see it getting any use at all if it takes up your only grenade slot which is important to a lot of scouts...
A way to make it, in my eyes, acceptable for all classes to use, is it should take a certain amount of time based on their scan profile. Roughly 3 seconds for heavy (it'll still be faster than sprinting), 2 seconds for assault/logi, and a half or a full second for scouts. All of this in place just to make sure it's used tactically as a utility instead of a means of teleporting on enemies to dunk them instantly.
What do you cuties think? |

What do you cuties think? I would also prefer it as an equipment as a way to keep HMG heavies from using it without doing weird extra arbitrary limitations. I hate the idea of having it no be ressuplyable, because you can just switch fits as a supply depot to a free starter fit, commit suicide, then respawn with the teleportation grenade. Making it on-ressuplyable is not only not fun, but easily circumvented with suicide and respawn. |

from a game play perspective it might be fun, but to balance some thing on your suit that ither directly teleported you or the equivalent to a jump drive for dropsuits would ither have to take most of the suits power and still be rather limited. |

Good to see some more interest! I like your thoughts on balancing. 3 seconds is a looooonngg time in game terms though, the fight would be long over by the time you used it so that might be a bit much. However, i see what you were trying to say.
After we get all of our racial suits and the like something like this could just be a class specific module. Like a tech 2 logistics or scout suit that can only use the equipment. |

If anything I think the way to balance this would be leave it as a grenade and add the spawn "wake up" function when you transport it takes a second or so for vision to return.
Also due the nature of this transport it temporarily increases your scan profile due to the disruption of space/time, meaning normally unscannable scouts would be a momentary blip. |

There would be so many uses for this my head is reeling at the possibilities.
Imagine cooking a timed variant as an enemy unaware of your presence turns the corner, throwing the nade up in the air and teleporting into midair, the enemy walks right under you as you engage dampeners, slam into his face and knife him to kingdom come.
I understand that it could possibly be abused, but I reckon these grenades should be highly visible (bright orange or something) and start glowing if someone is warping through. Graphically, I imagine the person teleporting would disintegrate into particles which zoom towards the grenade, then reform. This would make sense with the above poster who suggested heavies take longer than others; they take longer to disintegrate.
And imagine if passengers could teleport up to my dropship and hop in without me even landing.... DAMNIT I WANT THESE GRENADES!
What if, whereever you throw the grenade, there needs to be NO obstacles between you and the grenade, or you can't teleport? For example, lets say when you throw the grenade a visible, glowing line appears between you and it. If an enemy sees that line, and steps in it, the connection is broken and you get a 'teleportation denied' or a cheesy variation of the vehicle deployment error: 'location inaccessible for teleportation'.
This would greatly limit their use in terms of getting over walls, but they'd still be awesome for jumping roofs and the like.

I'm skeptical whether this would be good. Reminds me of translocator from Unreal Tournament series - which made the game artistic like a circus ballet and chaotic like a blender. Not bad for a twitch shooter, but for Dust... |
