Quote:How important do you see microtransaction driven games like Tekken Revolution and Dust 514 for the PlayStation 4?
We want this to be a platform that is very welcoming to free-to-play experiences, and any business model that allows that to happen. I think that free-to-play is going to be a very big trend in the Japanese market in particular, but for the rest of the world as well, and I think microtransactions are here to stay.
The fundamental goal is to offer the consumer as much flexibility as we can in terms of the kinds of experiences they want at the price points they feel are appropriate. I think weGÇÖve already made a major shift on that with digital only distribution of smaller, cheaper games on PSN, and free-to-play games are another way of delivering this flexibility. That is not to deny at all full game purchases like Grand Theft Auto V, which will absolutely remain a big part of the business.
Assuming the question was actually word for word to him, it is notable that he didn't correct the questioner. Also, I think the continentals and pan-Americans don't really have a feel for how Dust is doing in the Asian market... |

I stumbled upon this earlier today myself...the question specifies games "like" Dust, though, so I don't think its safe to read anything about Dust's future into his answeer. |

He was obviously talking about F2P games in general and not specific games. Hell he probably doesnt know what Dust is. |

Even if it is not a specific statement about Dust, I do find the continuity of F2P and how Sony is approaching this aspect of gaming to be encouraging. |

If you consider the political backlash in-game for daring to create games like Valkyrie and DUST514, I am not surprised that the official response is "There is no official response."
CCP is too intelligent a company to look at the PS4 and say 'Nah, we're good with the last generation.'
The path I thought most likely was to flesh out DUST on the PS3, before releasing it on PC and PS4. |

Would you care to guess what restrictions Sony's "PS3 exclusive" deal placed on CCP?
Would you further care to guess why CCP took the rather bizarre step of having an "official launch" for Dust without spending any of its marketing budget? |
